I finally got around to installing my oil temp gauge. The sender is in the filter head. So far I don’t have many miles on it but the oil temp stays about 10° below coolant while the engine is warming and then under normal loads it’s matches coolant. I’ll be towing with it soon enough thou. I have the ISSPRO attribute programmer but I haven’t decided what temp to set the alarm light to. I was thinking 250° thou.

I finally got around to installing the coolant filter I bought at the end of last year. I tried to install it when I did my coolant flush in December, but I couldn’t find a plumbing/mounting option I was happy with, so the filter went back on the shelf. I finally figured out where to mount it last month when I was installing my Home Depot CAI, the bracket fits perfectly on the bumper bracket behind the fog light, and there is plenty of room for hoses to run. I had heard in passing that the block offered lower coolant pressure than the head, and that there was a coolant port behind the oil filter. Last week when I was getting my cam installed I confir…

Ok I have a 2006 2500 4x4 slt diesel 5.9L i just replace motor and transmission for about three days it ran great but then as I am driving my mileage and shift indicator (PRND21) start to flicker my a/c compressor light button flickers on and off which the a/c was off at the time. Then my brake light abs and check engine lights turn on for a few seconds then everything goes blank and motor shuts off. I do have an air dog on the truck and a bully dog programmer. I found that I have a wire shorted out. It is a ground wire from pcm from the pcm it is three black wires then it turns into one black wire I have looked at other trucks with same yr and they have it either t…

Good afternoon All, and Happy Friday! A kind gentleman named Roy in Arizona contacted me to let me know that his son was walking and saw a Smarty case on the side of the road. Inside was a Smarty S-06 handheld tuner. He gave me the serial number so I could track and see if it was a unit the owner had registered with me on our website. I looked it up and it was NOT registered. Please spread the word. There is someone missing a Smarty S-06 who would be happy to get it back. Thank God for honest people like Roy and his son who made the effort to get this unit back to it's rightful owner. If the person missing the Smarty …

Does anybody know what triggers the grid heater relay? The ecm, or a sensor? I’ve replaced the grid heater and relay and tested all power, once I trigger the relay the heater turns on but still no wts on dash. I also put the iat sensor in a cup of ice water for quite a while to see if that may trigger it, no luck. The only thing new to the truck is efi live.

Hello to all, my first question for fellow 3rd Gen devotees. I have had a recurring, relatively minor irritating issue with my favorite truck. Periodically, with no apparent connection to temperature, work load, or time since last incident. I think it is related to the key (fob has some kind of transmitter inside it). I will start the truck, it fires up, runs for one or two seconds and then shuts down. All I have to do, is switch the key, completely off, wait a few seconds, then restart. It restarts and runs fine, until the next time. Sometimes that is later on the same day, sometimes a few days later, sometimes not for a week or two. My fear i…

My dads friend with an 04.5 is experiencing his blower not working anymore. The way he described it to me was it used to work when he would go and start the truck up, but after you start it it would stop working, and now it doesn't work at all. He said this all started after he replaced the thermostat, but I doubt that has anything to do with it. I will not that he did replace his resistor about a month or 2 ago so that is not the problem. Any help is appreciated because we are all in the dark. Thanks!

So, driving along in my 04 all good right? no odd noises or anything. then out of nowhere the belt went kabooie, the idler pully had locked up, and well came apart at the bearing, so a luck call to a napa and parts delivered, i have a new pully, belt, crank position sensor on there way to me on the side of the road. and a massive oil leak. so now that i'm home, and a well lubed underside of my truck, i'm wondering what could be leaking. and how hard it is to take the fornt of the truck apart to replace said seals. i know youre gonna say where is the leak coming from,, i have no idea. cant tell, when i clenaed it and ran the truck the fan blows oil everwhere…

Truck runs fine for about 20 miles, 70mph, 2200rpm air on/off no difference. Coolant temp normal, oil pressure normal. Injectors testing good, no oil or coolant consumption/loss. No boost leaks with soap test. Truck does not smoke at start and only light black smoke when getting into it. After around 20 miles at highway speed all the sudden a trail of white/blue smoke from exhaust and the truck runs normal. I can make it stop by letting off the throttle or pushing it harder, but smoke returns after pedal is returned to normal cruise. After I exit the highway it quits smoking at speed less than 60. I'm about to drop a grenade down the intake...

Recently had a customer come in. Said they had a diagnosis needing Injectors. Replaced Injectors, and came up with a fuel delivery error p0148. Replaced fuel rail pressure sensor, pump in tank. Ran some fuel pressure override tests and went from good pressure to 0%. After an injection pump replacement, it ran great. Ran for about 15 miles and the code came back, and it completely shut off and had no pressure at all. Couldn’t pull its weight back to the shop, and would die going uphill again. Any ideas? Bad pump?

I know some of you may sigh reading the post subject and I really have worked hard to study up on eb vgt function trying to troubleshoot my new truck purchase. Yeah, I am selling my awesome 02 6 speed that I love for the very powerful/comfortable 6.7 mega cab. My entire family has thanked me for easier travel when camper pulling but I’m chasing down a no eb condition. Me7....has put a great article out on calibrating vgt so I am now getting the confidence to proceed with pulling off actuator and check for manual actuation to see if things are bound up. Here is how I’ve arrive at this juncture. -no eb function at time of purchase -perform service on …

Hello all. Been lurking for a while, first post! This truck is still new to me, trying to figure out what’s normal and what’s not. 2006 G56 4wd 3.73 DRW 163k I have a little over 3000 miles on a long block with a Hamilton 178/208 with reman injectors I sourced from my local Bosch facility. While I’d prefer a Smarty Jr, truck came with a Juice with Attitude so I have been running that. All else is stock. My normal trip and main use for this truck is hauling my 8.5x20 standard height bumper pull enclosed with my Jeep inside from CT to PA via interstates 84 and 81. Trailer is roughly 8500lb loaded up, so I am guessing…

I have a 2007 5.9 3500 in the shop with 95,000 original miles on it with only a U0164 fault in every module in the truck except in ECM and HVAC module. The truck has the airbag light lit and the HVAC function knob and A/C button inop. I tried a known good spare HVAC module with no improvement. I've determined the HVAC module is not getting power but would like to verify wiring is good before condemning the TIPM. Mitchell software doesn't have the wiring diagrams I need. Google and the articles on this site don't have much info on either module. Is there a place I can find the diagrams I'm looking for?

Hi guys, I bought an 06 5.9 3500 stock, manual 6speed with 241000 miles in January (at the time - 257000 now) , so I'm still not as familiar with it as I am my '01. When backing off the throttle going downhill (usually) I sometimes get the wait to start light appearing and the ten dings... BUT not loss of power (no limp mode). It does not seem to affect anything. Sometimes it clears after shutting down, sometimes not. I have a ODBLX with Torque and ALFAODB (altho I have not yet paid for that app), and no codes other than P0633 Skim key code show up. I also have a UltraGauge and monitor fuel rail pressure (about 7000 at idle, and never more than 20,000 at speed - which…

I have a 2003 HO Auto. My charging system is charging at 18 volts, when I turn the ignition off it still reads 12v and will hold this reading. Unhook batteries and it drops to needle. My Edge CTS2 shows 14.6v while running , checked with multimeter and batts getting 18v. Redone end connections and I am stuck.....

So, I finished the transfer case swap in my friend's 08 3500 MC this past weekend. Basically, the reason for it was I replaced the chain, gears, seals and bearings in it a year or so ago, due to what we thought was slippage of the chain. Problem disappeared for about 3 months, then returned. Only this time, it came back with a vengeance. What was actually occurring was the electronic shift motor was attempting to engage 4WD at whenever it felt like it. Last time, it was at about 70mph when it tried to switch to 4WD, all but grenading the tcase into dust. So I Got my hands on a really good priced NV271F (Yes, Ford). Ripped it apart, freshened the bearings, sea…

Purchased my 2004.5 3500 a year ago, it has 142,000 miles on the clock, it is stock accept for an Edge EZ. Ran flawlessly until last Sunday, I live in the Phoenix Arizona area so it was like 55 degrees out, the grid heater light came on so I waited to start the truck, it tried to start and failed, I tried again and it started, idled normally and ran great but the check engine light was on. Turned it off at a friends house for little while (10 mins) it started right up, we went to a car show, when we came out it was even harder to start, it ran great all the way home, turned it off and it fired right up. I tried to start it the next day and it would not start at all, fina…
