Reading the 4th gear hunting thread, I read that Dave3500 said his truck ran significantly better after he had a Dealer flash the computer(s). Is this something every 24V owner should do? BTW, what exactly is "4th gear hunting?" Is it an auto transmission issue? - djb

Hello everyone, I haven't been in here much lately, too much stuff. But now I have several things happening with the truck. Problem 1 I backed it up into the barn the other day during a downpour, so had to engage 4wd to not spin on the slope. I forgot to disengage as I moved and slid it out without enough time for it to fully do so. I parked it and left it for a few days. I start it up and bring it out and slide it out of 4x but I notice that my brake warning light never turned off, nor did my ABS dummy light. Now, my brakes were working, but the pedal travels a fair amount before I really find resistance. I'm not certain they are working at 100%. I've had a lot of brak…

My truck is due for emissions so I removed my edge comp. When I started the truck the CEL came on and I have a P0237 code. It will not clear. I plugged the factory MAP sensor plug into the sensor and no change. I drove it around and it it runs and drives fine, no smoke. After driving it a bit the CEL went out but the code is still there (both pending and confirmed). I pulled up the "Intake Manifold Absolute Pressure" pid on my scan tool and that value seems accurate and responds to driving. I am going to go out and see if I can determine the voltage...maybe pull the MAP sensor. Any other ideas?

Hey guys! I've been lurking around this site for a while. I've gotten lots of valuable info for keeping my trucks going. I have a 2001 2500 that has been giving me issues for a while(2 years now)- hopefully I can find some knowledge here. the truck runs fine when its cold, as it heats up the power will cut out, then come back. I have taken it to a couple of mechanics and they haven't been able to figure out the problem.we ran it one day with the Modus attached- TPS is fine, CPS is fine, only thing we could see funny was that as it was cutting out/ powering up the Calculated load value was jumping from 0% to 100%. anyone know how the computer calculates the load value?…

Finally got everything buttoned up tonight and fired it up, only to notice a small, but steady stream of ATF coming out near the front of the trans. Further tracing of the leak found a hole worn through the hard line that runs from the heat exchanger up to the trans cooler. So, I cut that worn section out and fitted a section of hose and clamps in place to hold over til I get the new lines ordered. Anyway, after that drain-and-refill exercise, we took it off the jacks and loaded tools and such in the bed, and headed home. About 2 miles in (and this is in 4am traffic, mind you, i.e., non-existant) with some basic testing of functionality like downshifts, WOT 1-2 and 2-3, …

My truck died in the driveway several months ago. I ran it for a couple minutes to move it to the driveway. When I went to start it an hour later, it wouldn't start. I've since been tinkering with it for months. Replaced lift pump relay. Replaced fuel filter. Tested lift pump pressure (10psi, low, but should start) Unplugged and re-plugged: VP44, PCM, VP44 relay, apps, various connectors I could reach Replaced batteries with brand new. Added 5 gallons of fresh fuel. Originally, there wasn't anything I could do to start the truck. Then I learned how to hotwire the VP44 and the lift-pump relay. I was able t…

A couple of weeks ago i did @IBMobile grid heater bypass. Everything worked great with no issues. This morning when i went to leave for work i turned on the grids. Fired up the truck, everything normal. Turned off the toggle switch for the grid heaters while the grids were powered up. Started driving and noticed my digital volt gauge was dark. Didn't think too much of it. It was cheap and figured it just died. Shut the truck down at work and realized my turbo timer was also not working. Checked everything and both volt gauge and turbo timer are fried. Took a little to put it together but i believe a current spike from the SS-581 solenoid destroyed them. I did some researc…

I have a leak in the front of the engine it's right by the slobber tube but has gone from sitting a week and leaving one drop no bigger than a penny to leaving that overnight. It appears to increase while running the engine, sometimes... pictures explain more it's got enough oil everywhere that I will have to clean it up somehow to even figure out what is leaking... When I replaced the body I cleaned as much as I could around the slobber tube but 340,00ish miles causes quite a caked on mess that needs to be cleaned. Questions are what would be leaking in there front crank seal or cam seal? If I have to replace either how hard is it I'm extremely busy so i…

I know this has been asked before prolly more than once I need a fuel pressure guage and I want it to be accurate but would like to keep just the fuel pressure guage cost less than 150 because I still would like to have some reserve for a new fuel pump if needed now the interesting thing is when ever I check pressure overnite here at hom its always at twelve and stays there engine off and its been that way since i got it I have removed the pump and wrapped it to the best of my abbity with header wrap and I would say I'm yet to have a problem after puting 150,000 on this pump I am starting to get concerned and yes the truck is pretty much so stock just home grown mods to i…

Have followed the forum concerning using 2 cyc oil. Have about made up my mind to start using it. I have a FASS Lift Pump with a 3/8 in inline filter and the OME filter upfront. I'm using a Quest filter upfront. I have recently used Lucas as an additive but it should be cleared out by now. I'm currently in Texas and will be retuning to SC after the 4th of July. Does anyone see any problem with starting using it now? I have 6k miles since I changed the upfront filter. Mohok

Aright, I'm trying to diagnose if its my valve cover gasket thats leaking. It may even be an old leak, too. I have some oil staining if you would call it that, that is at the rear. It can only come from the valve cover as it is to high for anything else. I have torqued the cover down and then retorqued after so long. I will double check again to see if it is still indeed leaking.Although, I called O'reilly's, and they sell the gasket for $126! WHHAAATTT!That is out of this world! Where could I get one cheaper?

I have a wierd issue that seems to only affect my truck in the morning. I have had a random low voltage map sensor code that didn't cause any issues. So i replaced the map sensor 6-8 months ago and all was well. Lately though it has come back. Usually a few seconds after I start my truck up I get a check engine light but it has taken as long as ten minutes of driving. Some mornings I can drive normally with the light on. Some mornings I get essentially zero boost so the truck is a slug. Sometimes it's jerky, I get a little boost then it cuts fueling I guess because it's back to no power. It always idles fine and even drives fine if you don't have any big hills. The only…

I have searched some but maybe don't how to do it properly since I couldn't get answers I am looking for. Forgive me if I'm just not smart enough to get them. Anyway, I recently had codes 1693, 0500, 1694, 1698 pop up. I had not yet done the WT mod even though I have been trying to get it done for quite some time. Life gets in the way with some travel and serious AO health issues. Some of that relates to not having much strength or energy. The tach would drop out and come back for awhile and then drop again. Cleared codes and 1694 and 1698 came back. Cleared again and 1698 was back. Did the WT mods and put a fuse in the blue wire to PCM. I had checked AC v…

Have not been around for awhile been working out of town. Now that I'm back home I want to upgrade the fuel filter system. Here is my ideal. I would like to remove the stock fuel canister and replace with the Fleetguard fs19596 with water in fuel sensor and Cat 1R-0750 after the raptor pump(frrp). After looking at the filter heads and the space where the canister is I think I can fit it all in there. What do you guys think? Will the raptor be able to handle the filters after it? Thanks

While installing my Battery Cable [battery to Starter] I noticed a round object about four inches in diameter and eight inches long, attached to the engine block in front and above the starter. I can not figure out what this is. I looked in my Haynes repair manual and there is nothing about it. Does any one with a Dodge/Cummins 1998.5 24v have this part or know what it is.
