Over the last few months my trucks has randomly had a long crank to start issue. Only has happen maybe 4 times. It usually takes less then a second and shes running. But when this long crank happens it usually takes between 3 and 4 seconds to start. This always happens after the tuck has been sitting for at least over night. Also the last few days I have noticed a light gray colored smoke coming from my stacks when I step on it. My truck is completely stock as far as turbo injectors or chips go and I have never before made smoke (which is how I want it ti stay haha) But the last few days it seems to smoke more. Are these two issues related? What should I be lookin…

  2. Ok, 2001 dodge cummins 4x4 333000 miles. Original transmission. Barely any flakes at transmission oil changes. Driving the truck at 35 mph and 3rd gear. Letting up slightly on throttle it downshifts to second. Takes lots of throttle to kick back into 3rd. Also does the same thing at higher speeds downshifting from od to 3 when going down a hill or letting up on throttle. I assumed it was the gov solenoid and transducer. Changed that with the kit from cassadia transmission on eBay. It didn't change anything. Adjusted tv cable. Didn't change the problem maybe moved the speed slightly as to when it happens. Took it to a shop I trust for them to run it on sc…

Hi All looking to replace a Gen 2 map sensor with a heavy duty one. I have located severall sensors but I don't know the correct thread pitch or style. I have several to choose from and the only O.E.M. one I have is in the running truck. So hopefully someone knows or can pick it out of a line up. TIA Michael MAP Pressure ports.pdf

hello everyone i have a 2001 24v cummins and am having a lot of problems trying to figure out my dead pedal situation. It all started a couple months ago where I would get dead pedal and a surging in the rpms. I changed the APPS and set the voltage to 0.420v and my surging problem went away but now i have dead pedal A LOT! Iv checked wires and grounds. I cleaned all the grounds and changed some ends but looking at the APPS sensor wiring it looks like the PO spliced in a wire to terminal 3 and ran it straight to the pcm but also keeping the wire going to the ecm. Iv had the truck for 2 years and no trouble up until a couple months ago so I can't see that being the p…

  6. Here you go gang... How to remove the VP44 the quick and easy way. Takes approximately 45 minutes for me to do this much. Remove the Mopar1973Man Crankcase vent (if applicable) Using a 10mm socket remove the air horn bolts and dipstick bolt. Using a 7/16 or 11mm loosen the top clamp of the boost boot. Move everything out of your way. Pack a shop rag in the intake to prevent stuff from falling in. Using a 13mm socket loosen the 3 bolts holding the APPS sensor and unplug and move. Now unplug the VP44 main connector and wire tap . This connector is a two st…

Ok - I sure seem to be fining weird stuff lately. Rang around for A spicer 1480 ujoint today ...... couldnt get one. Settled for an Advanced Auto Part #295 Greaseable Moog Ujoint (20054BF). Installed fine. When i finish buttoning her up ....... I notice 2 things. 1) The grease nipple wont go all the way in ........ 2) There is a small amount of play ...... say 1mm ..... rather than being pure tight on the end caps with teh straps. The cclips appear tight. Thinking its probably they need grease - load up the grease gun - but it doesnt seem to want to go in ...... spills out everywhere. Not sure if this is due to nipple not fully seated ....... but wouldnt…

Ok, I thought my vp was shot, now I'm stumped. I posted that I was given an 02 QC which had been sitting for 2 years. When I got it started it ran rough, and smoked like a train (white smoke.). Last night I changed the fuel filter (which was black), and noticed the little "o" ring around the cap was missing. MMMM... So I put the new filter in, along with the new "o" ring. Fired it up, and it quit after 2 seconds or so. It lost prime. After bleeding it, the engine ran like new! When I revved it up, there was a little puff of BLACK smoke, but NO white smoke. So I took it out for a drive. Turning at the corner I got into it, and it lit the tires (buckshots) while getting g…

when i got home this evening i smelled a slight wiff of diesel. looked up under the truck and saw some fuel on the underside of the intake. it appears that i have some fuel weeping out of the injector lines where the connect to the head.it seems to be runnig to the back of the intake and down. over the years i have had to crack them open on occasions. are there not some o rings or some other form of seal that might need to be replaced at these connnections?

I tried using my cruise control on my way home from work tonight and it set a about 90 km/h. Nothing faster but I could use the accel button to speed it up. Played with it some more and then it wouldn't do anything. The odometer readout showed that it would turn on and off. In the morning I was pulling a trailer so I didn't try it then so I can't remember when the last time I used it. Any ideas?

Well now that I have started driving the truck again with the VP44 project going and testing. The starter is doing the ole click-click thing sometimes Ugh. It's probably on a third set of contacts by now. The last set of contacts I ordered were the wrong ones. I was in a hurry so I took it to a shop to be fixed last time and put it back on the truck and the gear would sometimes touch the flywheel going up hill. So I had to take it apart and mess with the return spring. Anybody had this problem before? I'm thing about just buying a rebuilt one because the brushes are likely worn away after all the previous fixes.

So yesterday I drove my truck to walmart. Everything was normal. Came out of Walmart started up my truck and my airbag light came on and I’ve lost my radio, fan controls, turn signals (hazards still work), too (key on) cigarette plug. Also my truck is shifting really weird like it slipping know. My question is what all controls this stuff that I listed off? Trucks a 2000 Dodge Ram 3500 drw 24v cummins. Thanks in advance also everything I mentioned turns on when I have the key in accessory but as soon as I start the truck they go out

I am considering buying a complete 1998 12v drivetrain consisting of: [*]Engine w 100k [*] Auto trans w 12k on Jasper rebuild (w/ upgrades, but not sure what they are) [*] X-fer case w/ 100k [*] 3:55 axles with 100k [*] Front drive shaft Been sitting indoors since 2003. However, I can buy the whole deal for $2500...maybe less. I would then swap the 12v and Jasper trans into my '98 QCSB and sell my 24v (w/ 177k), good auto trans and 100k axles after the swap. I could give people good deals on everything, I think, and still get an engine/trans with low miles in my truck in for just a few dollars. I could not do the swap myself. Just don't ha…

  17. Heard this the other day and I wanted to come to someone who knows fact from fiction - so here goes.I have an 02 2500 ram 5.9 w/ an in-tank lift pump the dodge guys put there under warranty. I installed an edge comp instead of my E-Z, then a fuel pressure gauge because I was afraid of my pump, then I replaced my lift pump with a Holley because of low pressure. For those who don't know, you don't have to crank the motor to start the pump, just "bump"the starter and it will run for 30 seconds. When I do this, I get about 16 lbs. of pressure. If I start the motor, it drops slowly to about 10. I was told by someone that when the motor starts, the relay lowers the power output …

This morning I started my 01 3500 like I do everyday. Everything seemed normal, after about 15 mins. of warming up, I got back in the truck to a check engine light. I checked the codes, I had two (P0237,P1693). I drove the truck and had no noticeable signs of problems. Is this something I need to have checked out? Any help Appreciated.

  20. My OEM alternator in my 2002 Cummins Auto was producing high AC voltage occasionally during very hot days and was causing my transmission to shift improperly (see Torque Converter Lock Unlock Issues). Many of us have had this problem and have tried many different remanufactured alternators to varying degrees of success. As noted in the torque converter article, AC noise is going to come from the diodes in the rectifier failing or failed solder joints in the alternator. Heat and load is generally the cause of electrical component failure. The heat can kill the diodes themselves and also damage the solder joints on the circuit boards. Heat can come from high powe…
