Last summer I found some wheels/tires from a 3rd gen truck for cheap. $100. Included some tires which were around 25% tread. Those serviced me until this week. Stumbled onto another set with 60% tread for $200. These are Wild Country Raidial XLT's. These will get me through the winter. Then I'll have 2 sets of chrome rims to mount winter/summer tires onto. Plus I'm working on going to 3rd gen brakes. My question is ...are the benefit of 3rd gen brakes mostly seen in the front, or do front and rear both add to braking ability?

  2. Started by snowshoveler,

Any of you put the 3rd gen bar on your truck. I have put a couple good 2nd gen ones on and a couple low buck specials on it. They all fail. I have driven this truck 20 k in 6 years. I do have 285 tires on it with M/T aluminum wheels. They are actually a lot lighter than my chrome original ones with the 245s on it. So I am thinking of buying the bracket that bolts to the frame and putting the 3rd gen bar on. I can get the bars for free if the stock ones fit my truck. Thanks for any input, positive or negative. That is how we learn.

So, basically what the title says. I'm interested in mixing and matching bits from a later gen sending unit, in my 2nd gen's. I'm not running any power mods, and lately my fass drp has had intermittent defueling at highway speed. Continued after changing fuel filters. Truck has 370k+ miles on it, big stock, the most recent 150k have been mostly highway.

Well... On my way home tonight my exhaust system started to fall apart. I lost the section between the muffler and the U section over the axle. Time to give up on the old stock pipe and replace it completely. I need a 4 inch exhaust system that comes with a flow through muffler and straight pipe. I'm wanting something that is designed to combat road salt and rusting for a long time. Time to see what you all suggest for the exhaust system. At this point, my truck is parked and I'll be using the 96 Dodge Ram 1500 for the time being till I get the new exhaust or manage to make a turn down for my existing system. So I need to get to work tomorrow on @IBMobile VP44…

From there it went downhill to the point now where i only got 1st gear and my edge pulls up no codes and niether does the key trick! i quick went to town and got a tranny output speed sensor but that didnt change anything. whats the next thing i should try?

2001 dodge cummins 4x4 auto trans . do i have 4 wheel abs?

  8. SO the other day I was going home from work, it was snowing pretty bad and the roads were really slick and crappy so I popped the ole girl in 4x4 just for added reassurance. On my commute I have a nice 90* turn that is completely blind till about half way through the turn. Well I get to that half way part, and this grey toyota carolla was spinning and fishtailing all over the place out of control, SO I did what any reasonable 23 year old in a big 4x4 cummins would do and drove right into the front yard of some guy who lives on that corner, I drove in, drove out and kept on my way. Ran over a few rocks and such but all was good, So I thoight. I got about another 1/2 mi…

OK, my signature truck is pure stock, right down to the OEM air filter... except the tailpipe rusted itself off a while back. Tires are OEM Michelins, ratio is 4:10. Most of my driving is secondary routes (state owned local highways). I'm doing my best to stretch fuel... getting the automatic to shift up & foot off the go pedal down hill. I'm running 2 cycle Dino 100:1. In the past, the overhead MPG has been within fractions of the hand calc miles. I reset the overhead after my last trip with a trailer, to get that off the data... the over-head has been bouncing 18.0-18.3... respectable mpg for this truck. I just filled up 27.94 G at 619.1 M That's "22…

I finally got my 4” exhaust hooked up yesterday. WOW, what a difference it made in the old heap. It really woke the truck up. I can’t believe the difference it made on how quickly the truck revs up. I drive it like an old man (of course I am) and usually shift the truck around 2 to 22 thou. Now I can’t stop the thing from reving to 3 before I can move the lever. Been racing and building hot rods all my life and I have never seen an exhaust make so much difference. I have been making up excusses to drive the truck anywhere for anything ever since.. I am a happy camper:hyper:

  13. Anyone have first hand experience and can recommend a good 4" exhaust muffler/resonator for sound deadening? I need to tone down my 4" exhaust sound some and at the same time not restrict flow. I've seen a few models - Aeroturbine, MBRP Quiet Tone Muffler Resonator. I've got an existing muffler which the PO installed but can't tell the brand. In any event its a bit too loud and showing some signs of rust. Any suggestions?

I picked up a 1993 Dakota 3.9 V6 yesterday that has a trans issue. It shudders real bad when shifting from first gear and has no get up and go. I’m thinking torque converter.

Can anyone help me? I was talking to a representative about my truck the other day :| :red and he breifly mentioned that I have a 45RE Auto Transmission. Cany You tell me what that means exactly. :smart I bought this truck to tow our 5th wheel trailer, about 6tons, and I was wondering if I should upgrade the torgue converter. :$: I am a novice to mods and really don't know too much about transmissions either so any help there would be greatly appreciated. :cheers Thanks, mab

  17. after a long and arduous battle, my vp44 has been replaced and seems to be running like a top....good fuel pressure and such....but after letting it sit for about a month, I now have to crank it pretty hard to get it to start, almost feels like it has air in the lines however I have torqued, checked and re-re-double-quadruple-checked all the lines and they are all holding fuel....?? my second question, just after I replaced my vp the first time with a used pump, that failed shortly there after, my 47re started having issues shifting out of first!! I thought it may have been a clog in the valve body, it sat for a while, but a good ****** of the valve body with brake clean …

I'm new to the forum and new to dodge automatics, my truck used to surge at light throttle between 1st and second occasionally now it won't shift from first to second under regular acceleration unless you let up on the pedal. If you baby it, it shifts just fine, I just changed the fluid and filter two weeks ago and the output speed sensor last night. I tried to pull codes but there aren't any at all not even pending codes. The APPS was bad when i bought the truck back in January and I replaced it with a genuine Mopar. I am not sure where to go from here any help is greatly appreciated.
