I have a puzzle to try and figure out. A friend brought his truck to me because it was bucking and surging. I drove it, it was. I checked fuel pressure and found zero fuel pressure from the lift pump. Truck was running without lift pump fuel pressure. He said to me he had just replaced that intank pump about a year ago. This truck had the original lift pump on the side of the engine replace ten or twelve years ago so this is the second intank pump. What I found was when I bypassed the relay the pump would run, put out about 14.5 PSI. I found that the in line fuse that is in the power feed line to the relay was disintegrated. The only thing left were the prongs of…

Eng has 3ook on it and just changed the injectors, they were real bad. Eng sounded fine but no HP slow spool up and low EGT. Now it has good hp and all but at idle it is sorta erratic. Its not a miss. Tach has a little bounce to it, I think I read somewhere cam sensor need replace? No codes with the key but the 1693 comes up but nothing else.

  3. Well, I wound up buying a new VP44. Ouch!! Now I have a whole new problem. 4. Just as the title states it is just a momentary burp. Very repeatable. Doesn't matter if the engine is cold, hot, etc. According to the Edge Attitude monitor it is not related to throttle position (as the percent of throttle in which it occurs can be different and it still happens.) You can feel a slight lag in the truck then it picks up again. It is fine before or after. It happens about 80% of the time. Some clues that may help...it didn't happen before my hard starting problem appeared. However about a year before the hard starting appeared my check engine light came on and it was diagnosed as a crank position sensor code. The code went away and therefore the …

Does anyone here use the cummins quick serve? If so, didn't you used to be able to view service diagrams and maintenance manuals there? I cannot seem to find the links inside the site for those anymore, and it reads that no service manuals are available for my motor. Thanks.

  8. Hauled some cattle home yesterday with the new flatbed. Had to shorten up the gooseneck post on the trailer. The ball is sitting about 4-5 inches taller than the original one. I sure don't miss the rattling of a self-destructing box! Anyhow, I'm going 'full out' on this, (installing a new brake controller too) This truck came with a controller, which for the life of me, couldn't make it work. Sooo, out it came. (8 years ago) I have an eye on a couple models to install. So, when I wired up the flatbed and trailer harness, I went ahead and hooked up the light blue wire for the brake actuator circuit. Back half of truck is now done. Where do I look for the fro…

Thanks in advance for any advice! Went to start my truck today and ran for about 10sec and died, can't get it to restart! Fuel pump seems to be working, have fuel coming from lines at injection pump, inlet and return, no codes I'm aware of, I don't have a reader just with key procedure. What's involved with checking injection pump? (Please don't let it be that!!) I'm a diesel noob and fairly new to me truck, please be gentle ? Thanks! Don

Evening first time poster! I've been lurking this forum for a bit now with the anticipation of purchasing a new to me 2001 with 160,xxx, new to the 5.9 but have owned two 6.7's in the past. Today while looking under the rig it appears to be coolant behind the harmonic balancer. I went for the water pump and thermostat housing first but no joy on any coolant leakage. Besides the radiator hoses where else should I look for a possible leak OR what could fluid being in that spot indicate? Also of note after a short drive I crawled under and saw some drops on the steering linkage and some drips on the concrete. The seller recently worked on the oil pan gasket and n…

I made up my mind, I installed the Glow Shift Blue LED Gauges. I had the first fuel sender go flaky in a weeks time even with the needle valve cracked. So I got a new one from GS and they told me to buy this snubber http://www.summitracing.com/parts/ATM-3279/. So now I have the needle valve and the snubber. Here are some pics, combo EGT and boost on left, and Fuel pressure on right.

  15. Here is what it is doing: 1) Takes 1 to 1.5 secs to start... prior to injectrs/V adj... as soon as it turned over it would start.. 2) Rpm is around 740-750 with ever so slight bump to it... like its out of time or missing... it was very smooth prior to the install and had 780-800rpm. 3) I put it in reverse and it stalled (twice) when a bumped the throttle never done that before. 4) Noticeably more smoke (puff) at start up... and when i bump the throttle just sitting there it will puff smoke. Did not really do that before... 5) I was very careful installing injectors and crossover tubes they came with protective covers and i was very cautious when …

I have an 01 3500 HO i just replaced about every sensor n the truck along with the grounding mods and alternator mods. The truck is breaking up bad through the whole RPM range. it does puff white and black smoke from the exhaust. I just resolved an issue with my AirDog loosing ground and cutting out. i have the following codes. P0230 P0254 P0370 P1690 What route should i go next?

  18. Ok here is my dilemma my truck had just turned 100,000k. I have been having trouble with the ABS when I go to pull in to a parking spot or roll up to a stop sign my brake pedal push back hard and I can’t stop. I was told it may be a sensor, my mechanic said it also could be ball joints or bearings too. I have had it disconnected the ABS for a long time. Now I need to put in ball joints, they are real bad, Should I just change out the hub too. I don’t have the extra money for this. Or should I just do the ball joints and see what happens. I guess my question is how long can you go on stock wheel bearing? The Hubs do come with an ABS sensor right? Thanks for you…

ok so here is whats happening about a year ago I had oil leaking from in between the power steering pump and the vacuum pump so I replaced the seal and it fixed it and it did not leak at all for about six months. In January it started leaking again so I got another seal kit from Cummins and just did it over the weekend and started it up and no leaks had it running a little bit ago and the thing is leaking again. Anybody have any ideas I am tired of it leaking oil everywhere. I guess I should also note that I replaced the power steering pump the first time when I put new seals in it. Any help would greatly appreciated...

  20. Help!!!! Traveling cross country with truck and car on trailer. Trying to limp home 1500 miles with a badly leaking tappet cover (1 gallon oil leaks out per 200 miles!) Pulled in to get fuel. Went to start truck, heard click then nothing! All lights, dash lights, windows, cabin lights, etc. DEAD! Checked batteries, terminal connections, grounds, fuses, etc. all seemed good. Removed terminals from batteries and reinstalled them. Heard door open alarm so turned key to run. and had dash lights, windows etc. Tried to start, heard click again then nothing. Lost all dash and interior lights, windows, etc. again. Waited a few minutes and dash, interior lights reappeare…
