This is a discussion forum of the 1998.5 to 2002 2nd Generation Dodge Ram Trucks with 5.9L Cummins 24 Valve Turbo Diesel power train and drive line system. This includes all sub-system including wiring, fuel, oil, exhaust, air, transmission, computers and sensors.

  1. There is a guy talking to me about 12V's but he can't find any and is heading the 24V route instead since they are plentiful and I am not 100% on some things. He is getting it from a 70 year old with low mileage who just replaced the VP44, so I told him that would be the best one. Aside from needing a fuel pressure gauge, better lift pump, use 2 stroke, what else is there? Plus I can't get into enough details about what I just said. He wants to know how long he can run without a gauge and I said however long you want to be second guessing the lift pump. He also wants to know about what to do when the lift pump does go bad. Assuming he has a fuel pressure gauge by th…

this weekend i am taking my tranny out and preparing to install another one next week end. i have read several write ups here and feel confident i can do this. i know the nv5600 is quite heavy and i am prepared for that. just how heavy is the transfer case? i dont want ot get clobbered by it either.i figured while I had it out i would replace the seals since they leak slightly. does a seal removal tool make the job any easier? i have seen other ways, but if the tool is worth spending the money on i am all for it. any advice is appreciated.

My belt rides towards the front and eats into the tensioner,I've replaced the pully(not the tensioner) but only does this w/AC belt,I have non/AC belt that seems to run correctly, but for the life of me I can't see how to adjust the AC compressor since there is a roll pin that has to align in mounting bracket.

I was looking at Genos Garage checking out there auto trans pans. It claims to include trans filter extension, gauge tap, and magnetic drain plug, and up to 4 extra quarts of oil. 270.00. Are they worth it?

I bought a 1999 4x4 auto with about 104,000 miles a couple years ago which idled fine, but when under any load would smoke alot .... no modifications. I did not know any better and thought it had O.K. power until I rode in someone else's 24v. Well I looked for everything that would cause smoke. Ended up being a bad injector, replaced with RV 275's and now have good power. My question is, would me running the truck for about 15,000 miles, and I don't know how long before I bought it with bad injectors, cause issues with longevity of the motor. The truck now has 170,000 and runs fine and does not blow oil. Also the short block only had about 40,000 miles when I bought it.Sor…

Hello;allow me to introduce myself,my name is ed and I hail from manitoba, canada.I have been lurking on this and other forums for a while now, looking for info on a project I was roped into.I have a tech question and am looking for assistance:I am in the process of attempting to install a '01 24v into a '99 ram.The '99 threw a rod.I have run into the problem of the lack of a crank tone ring on the 01 engine.I had planned to do the crank swap but it turned out that the '99 crank was cracked and junk.So here is my question:I have read that it may be possible to change the '99 harness so that the crank sensor wire is re-routed and connected to the cam sensor on the '01 engine…

Have followed the forum concerning using 2 cyc oil. Have about made up my mind to start using it. I have a FASS Lift Pump with a 3/8 in inline filter and the OME filter upfront. I'm using a Quest filter upfront. I have recently used Lucas as an additive but it should be cleared out by now. I'm currently in Texas and will be retuning to SC after the 4th of July. Does anyone see any problem with starting using it now? I have 6k miles since I changed the upfront filter. Mohok

Have a oil leak - appears to be becomming from the rear of block on drivers side behind the starter motor.WHta back there - its actually hard to see ?? I don't think its a head gasket (think its lower) ........ and don';t think its draining from the tappet cover as its too far forwad (and actually looks newish) ..... freeze plug or something ?? How hard to take off the starter motor ............. ? So I can get a better look at it Just disconnect batteries and 4 or 5 bolts etc ?? thx

  13. Hello! I need some help. I had a bad oil leak on my 2001 Dodge Ram 3500. I've changed the pushrod cover gasket and put everything back as it was. After that, as I was little to lazy to start it proper way with bleeding injector lines ... I just used ether. Vehicle started and I thought, it was ok ... and it is while it's idling. Problem starts when press the gas. Huge white smoke is comming out of the pipe. Seams to me, like it smells like a diesel ... so all I can think of ... timing got screwed up. Anybody has any idea how to set the timing in VP44? I just put back everything as it was ... but there was no smoke before the procedure. Thanks

  15. I am planning on getting a blank new ECM from Chrysler, as I can get it for wholesale, a mere $1003.00 before tax. :spend:FYI all, the ECM listed on RockAuto is not the Cummins ECM, its the Powertrain Control Module (PCM), thankfully RockAuto takes returns. :smart:Then, if the ECM install goes well, I am getting a set of the Bosch RV 275 injectors. Then, if the truck runs well, I am going to put my edge back on.Then, I am going to fix the control arms. Then, ... it never ends does it. :lmao:Has anybody installed an ECM before? Anybody have issues that I could be facing? I am planning on buying it new, supposedly "blank" and having a mechanic friend of mine with a curre…

I installed my old 50hp injectors that came out of my old motor, they only had about 10k on them. Anyway something was not right, you could thighten them a little and it would change the way the motor ran, loosen them and it would go back. So I decided to clean up my old original (200k) injectors, that was a hilarious event, first I lost a shim, looked for about a hour and nothing, gave up and decided to swep up the floor and bingo found it. So I get back to the job at hand and now I forgot which one it went in so I just guessed. Decided I better go have them tested, and wow I got it right But they came back and said they are all weak. I am pissed now, I aint paying th…

  19. Hey Guys, First post! I recently picked up an 02' Ram (in my signature) with the HO 245HP cummins and 6spd, it's got 100hp injectors and a 4" exhaust and no chip/tuner This last weekend, I went for a 250mile drive, and all seemed to be well and got back home sunday morning.Sunday afternoon, I was heading out for a drive and noticed some white smoke at idle, when warming up AND while warm while at idle. While under ACCELERATION/LOAD the truck will now put out more black smoke than usual. The truck was idling fine and nothing seemed out of sorts. Figured I'd pull a code so I quickly pulled over and checked and got P0234. I contacted the folks at BD diesel (they are local-i…

  20. Hi everybody. I am new here, and I have an interesting problem. Thanks in advance. 2000 5.9, 5sp, 4x4. 210,000mi. New injector pump from Midwest EFI, new Air Dog 100 lift pump. Otherwise stock. After sitting for a few days, it will take 5-10 sec crank time to start, but once it starts it runs normally. Tech is steady and normal. Not much smoke except at RPM near redline. When the truck is warm, if you let it idle, it will miss slightly. Power sucks over 2000 rpm, but isn't bad overall. Throws PO234 overboost code, but I feel that is due to the fact that I left my Edge boost elbow on the turbo. Edge juice CTS won't connect to the…
