Watch this video and tell me what you think. Take note, there was about 14k behind me pulling a long grade. WOT and the engine temp starting to climb. There is no engine fan roar but as soon as I let up on the throttle you can hear the engine fan come to life and everything cooled right down. It was about 90*F outside too... I'm wondering if the fan clutch is getting worn out or is there something else going on I'm overlooking.

Viscosity DefinitionViscosity is a measure of the resistance of a fluid to deform under shear stress. It is commonly perceived as "thickness", or resistance to flow. Viscosity describes a fluid's internal resistance to flow and may be thought of as a measure of fluid friction. Thus, water is "thin", having a lower viscosity, while vegetable oil is "thick" having a higher viscosity. All real fluids (except superfluids) have some resistance to shear stress, but a fluid which has no resistance to shear stress is known as an ideal fluid or inviscid fluid (Symon 1971).

My volt gauge goes up to the normal spot, just a hair over 14 but my scangauge II reads 13.5-13.6 volts. Is this normal?

Driving around today and my amp gauge dropped like and anchor! Got home took a look under the hood. Water pump shot and spraying all over the belt. Can you say slippage! Not a good week for the Cummins!

Hey guys, recently while I’m in traffic I’ve been having a voltage Drop and temperature spike. I’m in Las Vegas and daily temps are 100°+. I just fixed a vacuum leak on my 4x4 actuator which was causing excessive oil to come out of the crank case breather. Do y’all think this might be related because of oil getting on the pulleys and I just need to clean them up and swap the belt or should I start looking in a different direction?

a while back my truck went bezerck. surging, little or no throtle response, cruise control coutting on and off, temp gauge swinging wildly from 0 to max and the engine was surging while indeling and me standing beside the truck. i was already having some dead pedal issues and had puechased a new vp44 from blue chip diesel. thinking that might be causing the problem i installed the injector pump with no change. I had multiple high and low voltage codes on the iat, tps, temp and map sensors. also had codes on the cruise control, tach, system voltage. did some test on the tps and replaced no change, replaced the temp sensor no change, clock spring nochange, speedo(on board d…

Heard this the other day and I wanted to come to someone who knows fact from fiction - so here goes.I have an 02 2500 ram 5.9 w/ an in-tank lift pump the dodge guys put there under warranty. I installed an edge comp instead of my E-Z, then a fuel pressure gauge because I was afraid of my pump, then I replaced my lift pump with a Holley because of low pressure. For those who don't know, you don't have to crank the motor to start the pump, just "bump"the starter and it will run for 30 seconds. When I do this, I get about 16 lbs. of pressure. If I start the motor, it drops slowly to about 10. I was told by someone that when the motor starts, the relay lowers the power output …

I know there are some of you that dread the day hen the voltage regulator gives up the ghost because you know the PCM has to be replaced... Well I dug up the information and artwork for doing a old school regulator to replace the PCM function. http://mopar.mopar1973man.com/cummins/general/voltage-reg/voltage-reg.htm

Today making a drive to drop off some deer meat to be packaged, my trucks alternator voltage jumped to 18v for a couple of minutes, then went back to normal. First thing I am going to check is my grounds. If they check out to be clean and good should I put in a external voltage regulator like on the 12 valves?

I replaced my alternator and belt recently and since then I've noticed a weird voltage issue when I start up the truck first thing in the morning. When I first turn on the key voltage comes up to 12V. As the engine cranks it drops momentarily to 8.5-10V, then when the engine is running voltage returns to about 11.5V. It stays there for 10-15 seconds until then the alternator pulls it up to 14V. Then the voltage (and the engine to a lesser extent) starts surging between 12.5 and 14V. This continues for a couple minutes and then things even out where they should be (about 14.5V).I'm confused!

Pcm voltage regulator went out in my truck so I put in an older dodge external v. regulator. Works great at 14.6v until you drive about 5 miles then the check gauges light comes on and voltage reads pegged past 18v. I take readings at fuse block where alternator charging wire is and it is reading 14.6v. what the hell is going on? Voltage regulator is hooked up blue wire 12v switched ignition to cigarette lighter and green is to the plug on alternator. Even put on another ground from vr to ground on battery. Anyone have any suggestions?

I'm not good with wiring/volts etc. I'm trying to install a Timbo APPS and I can't seem to get things right. My battery tester works, but only has a range of 4v-19v (first picture) so it's out of range for the APPS. I just bought a another voltmeter and I can't even get it to read the battery volts...do I have things plugged in the right areas? According to the directions I should hvae the leads in the right areas and setting at 200 or 500 for the battery and I'm still getting nothing!

Ok gang I got vp 44 installed and now shifting is grate, no rpm drop, now shifts nice and smooth. But, there is still a problem with shurging when slowing down or push clutch in it surges about 4 times then smooths out. I put new timbomb apps and the lowest we could get numbers down to are .671 is this to high, in other words is apps sending a message to ecm searching for idle mode? Tim said .671 would be ok, I am wondering if there may be a problem here. Oh yea, eng. died several times with old vp and never thru a code. I got to ask what's up with that?

I'm in the process of removing injector pump from a blown motor. I can't get the motor to turn to get pump to TDC before pulling the gear. What are my options if I pull it as it sets, which is about 90° out. I assume TDC is for timing of the pump. If the pump is reinstalled on a working engine, would I install it the way it came off, 90° out, or is there a way to time pump to TDC once it is removed.

Can somebody give me a number of grounds under the hood. I am thinking maybe some grounds are missing. I know the truck was wrecked before I bought it, but very little damage, left fender and grill.I am haveing problems with vp44's I am on the 4th one now, and grounds are all I can think of. I am thinking if I just go buy a wireing harness I will know all conections are good and all grounds are there. Thanks

Hey guys. I have a 99 Dodge 2500 quad cab 4X4 5 speed. I was having an ongoing issue with WTS light either being delayed or not coming on at all and LP not cycling so I replaced ECM with a known good one and replaced ECM wiring harness with a new one I found at Firsttruckparts. When I was troubleshooting LP not running( before I replaced ECM and harness) I pulled the fuel system relay and got a P1689 code and truck wouldn’t start. So now, after replacing those I still had code and no start. After a lot of troubleshooting and wire checking I figured out on the fuel system relay that I have 12 volts to pin 86 from ECM until I plug the relay in and then it drops to ab…

19psi while running yesterday, around 10 cranking, plenty of fuel coming out when I loosen the return banjo. Nothing more than a slight trickle out the back/at the injectors while cranking. Tries to start on ether (grid delete, sprayed through the boost bolt) but since there's no fuel it's unsustainable. First VP went out at ~130K while towing. I replaced it with one from a truck at a friend's shop that he had owned since new but had a cracked 53 block, and I've been running on it ever since. Last night, after driving all day, I went to Daytona to bring an engine crane to a racer friend who's running the SCCA Nationals, and shut it off so we could hang out for a bi…
