Hi all, I replaced my intermediate steering shaft about 2000 miles ago because it had a lot of play in the upper joint (rag joint I believe) and it did not slide freely. I replaced it with a OEM Doorman one from Rock Auto. Anyway, it has already developed the same amount of play after 2000 miles as the original had after 250k miles. I will not pay $270 for a stupid Borgsen shaft because thats just crazy. So, I was thinking about ways to make this thing better and I came up with drilling out the rivets and replacing them with bolts so that I can actually tighten up that joint. What are your thoughts? Good idea or bad? Will it be a safety issue? Better…

:banghead: well it's a 2001 2500 cummins with a 2" spring lift in the front otherwise stock. After 50,000. miles my Dueler AT's needed replaced. I bought some used rims and powder coated. well they offset out about 3-4" per side compared to oem rims. tires are a 285/70/16. I installed new tires on the diff. rims and had aligned. I can't even keep truck going down highway at 60 with out about crossing center line. it is all over the road. Is all this because of the wider offset? If i have to go back to original rims I will. The truck is not driveable like this, I look like a drunk going down the road, it will randomly go either left or right 2-3 feet. It droove lik…

Hello all, Hope all is well. I have the steel rims on my 98.5, but always like the nicer wheels that were on the 99 and up. I have seen the newer factory rims and tires on the trucks and they look great. I know they went to disc brakes but I have drums in the rear. I would rather have the older rims. Thanks,John

My fiberglass camper dripped Gelcoat residue all over the hood of my Black 2nd Gen nd won't come out of the paint. So Off I go to get Line X premium applied. Line X dealer wants me to remove the hood but I'm concerned how to remove the hood and not cause a crease when removing. Do you guys remove the front two bolts off first with a temporary board supporting the hood? I can see it maybe lowering just a bit while unbolting and causing a wrinkle. Do you loosen all 4 bolts first while supported and then proceed? Thanks a bunch for any thoughts.

I'm stumped... I installed my new headlights a month or so ago and adjusted them accordingly. But the more I raised the beam and pulled it inward the more the housing would become misaligned with the fender opening. Hopefully the picture helps explain what I mean. These are OEM replacements and unless there's something else going on which I cant visually identify, so I should be able to get them straight like the factory lights were. Trying to figure this out, I remembered there's an adjustment on the top middle of the housing but.....its not accessible unless you remove the entire housing. Seriously??? Who thought that one up? Does anyone know …

Looking for recommendations on the easiest/best way to clean up the engine bay of our trucks? I'd like to get things looking as new and shiney as possible but I've never do it before so not sure what all the prep to keep water out of, or anything else that should be done before I start spraying things down. Any good cleaners or degreasers? It'd be really nice to clean up all the mess from the crankcase vent, and then do the vent mod and be done with it for good!

Wipers quit on my 2001. Could hear relay clicking when on intermittent, so figured motor. Got a reman motor from autozone. When I hook up 4 wire connector and turn on switch, it blows fuse. Check ground and I am getting 12v on the ground when switch is on. Check plug and I get 12v on the hi and lo when switched to hi and low. I have 12V constant on one of the park wires (blue wire). Figured motor was bad, swapped it and replacement does same thing. I replaced multifunction switch, same problem. thoughts??

Is anyone using a Banks exhaust brake and if so what do you think of it? I'm looking for a little help in down hill braking but not something that will overwhelm the transmission. The Banks is less expensive than a PAC or BD E-brake but need to splice in there down pipe. The truck and trailer are under 15,000 pounds.

So as the story goes..... The past couple weeks I've been hearing and feeling with my superhero like senses as I attentively and constantly monitor my truck for any odd noises, vibrations, and clunks.....I thought I felt something. Very difficult to detect but definitely something is not right and the best way I can describe it is as a very lite thump transmitted through the front suspension when I hit a sharp small bump, like a road reflector bump. Other than that it rides glassy smooth. Luckily I live on some fairly low traveled rural roads because I've been driving the center and wrong lane quite a bit trying to identify where the irritating feel is coming from, …

Currently have about 5 accessories tapped into fuses on side panel drivers side. Worried about overloading circuit and becoming a bit messy Assuming I can clean this up using a fuse panel like this for accessories ? But how best to RIG up to ensure on own circuit and not overloading another circuit (eg power ) http://www.amazon.com/Bussmann-BP-15600-06-20-Quick-Connect/dp/B001BXKLNQ/ref=pd_ts_auto_13?ie=UTF8&s=automotive http://www.wiringproducts.com/contents/en-us/d136.html Any better ones that handle more AMPS and how do you supply power/ground to man circuit - direct from battery using a higher gauge wire ? thx

I've been trying to find some better mirrors for my 01. I really do not care for the Dodge flip up mirrors. I've seen something about using Chevy extendable mirrors on the 2nd gen but haven't found out for sure what year mirrors to use. Anyone here know anything about this?

I've had a Gen 3 track bar and conversion bracket on the shelf now for over 10 years, originally bought for my 3500 but never got around to it I've been getting more and more ~~~~ed off with steering wander on my 2500 recently so decided to bite the bullet today and fit the 3rd gen bar and bracket as there is a tad of wear in the ball joint end as per usual. Axle end bolt seized solid in the steel sleeve in the bush then stripped the welded nut in the steel plate keeper GGGRRR, ended up drilling the bolt out, luckily I got it just right and didn't even damage the bush sleeve or the bolt holes in the axle bracket. All off and on the floor ready for tomorrow …

I removed my wifes suspension lift off her 2001 2500 quad cab. We went to the junkyard and they sold us control arms off of a 1999. Their fitment/buyers guide stated they would interchange. However the bushings are NOT the same ID as the cam ecentric bolts the truck came with. All of the bolts are different from the 1999 to the 2001.Replacement bushings state that they fit 1996-2002 1500-3500Doing more research I found a listing for the right bolts and not the bushings.Raybestos/Moog both show the bushings fitting but another site clearly listed a seperate listing.1996-1999 uppers and lowers had smaller bolts/bushings and 2000-2002 had bigger bushings and bolts.Does ANY on…
