2nd Generation Dodge Non-Powertrain

Discussion of the 1994 to 2002 2nd Generation Dodge Ram Trucks with 5.9L Cummins Turbo Diesel non-power train. This includes interior, air conditioning, heating, lighting, body, suspension, brakes, stereos, etc.

  1. I'm about to pick my truck up from the shop... they reported a rusted & cracked front coil seat on the front axle. I can't say I'm surprised with all the rust underneath... still one more thing to get tended to. I haven't got the bill yet for finding & fixing the motor-quit-in-the-street problem... or the install of the AD150, big line & pickup. edit OK, I got the truck back. Cost an arm, a leg & a nut!! I had them show me the rusted out spring perch, so I could see exactly what they were looking at. Yup, it's rusted out. I'm not finding a listing for this welded on part. Anybody know where to buy this?

After messing up the cupholder in the dash...and finding no replacement. I ordered the cup holder that fits on the front of the console from Geno's. Takes a while to get here but its a pretty nice setup for my coffee. No I don't drink and drive, but I do pick up a couple every morning for the boss and I. I don't drive the truck much in the winter but being able to use both hands to drive is better than holding 1 of those cardboard trays with 1 hand. Regards Chris...now full of caffene

Not sure if this will work or if anyone has tried this. I just finished with doing my front brakes and the parts guy commented of replacing the calipers. A mechanic said that if the calipers where working then no need to replace them, but I started looking on the internet. I noticed that the calipers for a Ram Van 2500 looks just like the calipers on the pickup except that it is two pistons instead of the pickups single piston. I have been looking in to doing a free spin hub conversion and one of the comments that I have read is that the Ford has better brakes because of the two piston calipers. So what I am wondering is if anyone has tried the van calipers on the pi…

  6. Has anyone ever hooked up an aftermarket engine temperature gauge? I know the factory gauge says 190* on the middle mark but does anyone really know what temperature the other marks are supposed to be? You go from 190* in the middle, to the next line, and then nothing until 240*. Thats a big number jump to not know whats in between.

  8. Not too happy right now. I went up to Harbor Freight today to buy some cheap azz tools that were on sale. I parked the truck a good ways out in the parking lot. It was a windy day but didnt really think anything of it. Go inside buy the tools and when I came out a damn shopping cart had gotten blown by the wind and collided with my passenger door. I just repainted the truck about 2 months ago. No dent but the scratch is beyond repair and the entire door needs to be repainted. I was so pissed I picked up the cart and threw it to the next isle over. Right after I went to the body shop where it was painted and the bill is going to be $400 to fix. I called Harbor Fre…

I've seen this a few times where people claim that cold weather will produce more drag on a vehicle just the cold dense air. So just for the fun of it I went and did the calculation on just the air drag part of it. Not factoring in other loses like fluid thickening... Here is the formulas I used Drag http://www.thefintels.com/aer/dragcalc.htm Air Density http://www.denysschen.com/catalogue/density.aspx Dodge Ram Specs including Drag Coefficient http://www.pickuptrucks.com/html/ram_specs.html So using local information and building a test bed on this. 10. I looked at the A/C relay under the hood and pulled the fuse. Engine running max a/c on i have voltage at one wire and with just normal a/c i have power at two wires. I need a diagram to show what wire goes were. I did some googling but i can't find what i need. There's a two wire plug down by the compressor that is broken. The fuse box side of the wireing is intact so i checked for power at both wires and nothing. I swaped relays around but still no power. So if anyone can post the diagram i need i would be a happy camper.

I want to add two more gauges to my truck.Even if mechanical probably needs wiring for the background lighting.Whats the easiest way to have them all running of a 12v power - rather than runnning 4-6 different wires to the battery or to fuse taps ? It gets MESSY.I need a real "junior" explanation with paint by numbers examples

So, I have a condensate drip in the passenger footwell. I cant tell where it is coming from. Condensate does come out of the drain in the firewal (engine compartment) but will drip into the cab. Ideas? Note: its quite a bit of water after an hour or so of driving. Cant find any cracks etc. Thanks!Ken

Posted this in the article comments earlier, but figured I’d get more opinions by starting a new thread. Doing the W-T mod this week, wanted to check in one final time and see if there were any new updates or changes to the mod I should know. I am putting in a new Nations 180 amp alternator too. Any suggestions on best place to mount the 200amp fuse holder for the b+ wire? Did Mike/W-T’s biblical like Paul vs Barnabus disagreement about the parallel cables ever get settled? I don’t want to run 4 giant cables across my radiator, but I really really don’t want a fire, or toasted alternator. Mike still says no need for parallel cables as long as grounds are …

  16. This procedure is for rear disc brake trucks. First block the front tires so the truck can't roll. Then jack up the rear axle of the truck till the tires are off the ground. Use jack stand under the rear axle. Don't set the brake! SAFETY FIRST! Now crawl under truck. The pic shown here is the driver side axle hub. There will be a notch in the bracket and in the notch is a rubber plug. You'll need a pair of needle nose pliers to reach in and pull the plug out. Now take a flashlight and look in the notch and you'll see a star wheel. You need to use a flat blade screwdriver to turn the star wheel. Check the wheel for drag by turning. If the shoes start to dr…

  19. ABS Failure - Diagnostics Tips 4 Wheel Anti-Lock Brake System 2 Wheel Anti-Lock Brake System (RWAL - Rear Wheel Anti-Lock) I find its really common to hear people complain about ABS and BRAKE lights being lit. There is a few simple things you can do to diagnose your problem. [*] Check your ABS fuses under the hood fuse #11 and check the #3 fuse inside the cab (driver side door jamb). Replace any that are blown. [*]Step on you brake pedal and see if the tail lights light up and turn off when released. If not repair the brake light switch. [*]Shift the transfer case into 4WD and check if the 4WD light comes on. (4WD equipped vehicles). If not repa…

My new set of pads and rotors are being particularly recalcitrant, spent nearly 2 hours trying to bleed and still not quite right. I did rebuild the calipers with new seals and pistons and it was fairly clean inside. A touch of grease and the new stuff was in with no issues and no leaks. I had never rebuilt calipers before, is that maybe at fault? Went through a big bottle of brake fluid. Did a gravity bleed, had someone help me power bleed (both using a version of Mopar1973Mans pickle jar), tried bedding the new pads and rotors. Went several more rounds after the new fluid hit and bubbles were gone. Still can push the pedal to the floor without too much fuss…
