2nd Generation Dodge Non-Powertrain

Discussion of the 1994 to 2002 2nd Generation Dodge Ram Trucks with 5.9L Cummins Turbo Diesel non-power train. This includes interior, air conditioning, heating, lighting, body, suspension, brakes, stereos, etc.

Well all, still fussing with my heating/AC system. I swear that if it was not for the Cummins engine I would sell this truck immediately due to the "time after time after time" hassles we have been having with the climate control.Back in June or so I took it to a good shop here in town and they pulled the dash and installed a new diverter door coupling. Seems that the coupling had broken and the motor could not move the door. It worked for a few days then stopped but luckily for me it stuck in the cold position so the A/C worked fine and in Arizona in the summer thats important. Finally this fall I took the truck back to have them fix it right.Well kids, the truck has bee…

I came home from work the other day to my truck in the driveway with the backup lights on.I unplugged my trailer - no short there, they stayed on. I played with my override switch and my shifter, they didn't turn off.I pull the backup light fuse and they stayed on.It seems that the hot side must be shorted to voltage somewhere after the switch on the trans. Anyone have any ideas on common bad splices or pinch points? I've got no guesses on likely areas myself, thought I'd throw it out there and see if this was any sort of "common problem" that I'd just never stumbled across.

Currently have about 5 accessories tapped into fuses on side panel drivers side. Worried about overloading circuit and becoming a bit messy Assuming I can clean this up using a fuse panel like this for accessories ? But how best to RIG up to ensure on own circuit and not overloading another circuit (eg power ) http://www.amazon.com/Bussmann-BP-15600-06-20-Quick-Connect/dp/B001BXKLNQ/ref=pd_ts_auto_13?ie=UTF8&s=automotive http://www.wiringproducts.com/contents/en-us/d136.html Any better ones that handle more AMPS and how do you supply power/ground to man circuit - direct from battery using a higher gauge wire ? thx

Howdy, new member, 1st post. I've got an '01 2500 4x4 LBQC, HO. Pretty much stock, except for: Smarty, BHAF, 255/85R16 BFG Mud Terrains, Galaxy CB, KC Highlites. Working on a dually rear axle conversion with a flatbed..... anyway, I've got the stock radio with the infinity speaker system with stering wheel controls. About a year ago, the right side button fell out and a few weeks ago, the left side fell out driving down the highway. My question is: can I replace the buttons or do I have to replace the complete wheel. I've been surching the net, with no avail. Any help would be appreciated.:banghead:

  7. My 2001 has the fancy chrome wheels and unfortunately every one has a case of the corrosion cancer that I guess is separating the chrome or clearcoat from the wheel metal. It looks horrible and is flaking off pretty badly. I can deal with this issue on the body paint, but not the wheels too! :lol:I have never liked these wheels anyway - have always preferred a more utilitarian look like the old white steelies on older trucks. My question is this - does anyone run 4 steel "spare" wheels on a 2nd gen? Is there anything different about them in terms of load or anything? My factory steel spare came with a Michelin LTX MS 265/75/16E mounted on it so I would guess the answer is…

  8. Well got up this morning to park the trailer and the E Brake is frozen and will not release... I got it to roll but brakes make a ungawdly sqeaking noise backing up. So I got the truck in the shop and I'm going to rip into the rear axle and see whats going on..

I purchased a new set of wipers for the snow that was expected for today. The ones that were on there were really bad and hardly took anything off. I got a few wipes out of the passenger side one and starts to smear the ice all over the window at the end closer to the mirror. Drivers side is okay but, was beginning to smear the ice just as I was getting closer to home. Suckiest wipers I've ever purchased! Do Not buy Anco wipers, as you will find yourself being the wiper.

After 295,000 miles I finally ponied up the cash to replace my steering shaft and gearbox on my 96 Dodge Ram 2500 4x4. The stock units had worn to the point that it was like driving a truck in a cheap video game. Now it feels like my Viper! Well, almost. But what a major improvement mainly with the Borgeson steering box with one full less turn lock to lock. I definetly recommend this swap for anyone with the Gen II trucks. Well worth the money. I recently got a scangauge and it shows 0.00 gph when idling or on fast idle. Is this normal or is there a setting to change? I can't see how it can be accurate on mpg if it doesn't record idling time.

What'd be the better way to go with track bar replacement on my 00 3/4 ton? I've gotta change mine. Should I go with the Moog? One of the kits to use the '03 model? Or one of the adjustable ones from Dss or solid steel biz? Just thought I'd throw it out to the bboard. Thanks in advance for any feedback. Dave

Put a Pricol 0-30psi fuel gauge in when new and it's been fluctuating, especially in hot/warm weather, and pulling hard. The engine runs perfectly without a miss. I have a FASS installed and it produces 15psi steady. I'm suspecting the "isolator", the thingy that's filled with antifreeze. I'm about ready to remove the isolator and run the line directly to the gauge or just bite the bullet and change to an electric gauge. Do these "isolators" have a reputation for failure? Kind of makes me wonder when the pressure jumps around but I'm relying on the FASS to give steady pressure. Thanks. This is my first post here...

I was talking with a friend tonight that has an 01 with the sport pkg and he told me his headlights started staying on today, even with the headlight switch off. Only way to shut them off is to unhook the batteries. Any ideas anyone? Daytime running light module perhaps?

Ok, this is embarrassing but maybe y'all will have an answer.I've caught, in regular wood/spring mouse traps, a few mice in the cab over the years. Never understood how they got in.When I replaced the A/C evaporator and heater core, they were full of shredded paper napkins and signs of mice. I cleaned it all up and glued (5-minute epoxy) aluminum screen over the air inlet to the box, where it meets the cab sheetmetal under the windshield. And everywhere else that anything could get into the box. I guess they could chew through the screen but there is nothing in the cab so attractive to prompt that, except it is warm and out of the weather.I caught another mouse in a t…
