So I pretty much replaced the entire A/C system and when I put the new compressor in I put around 7..5 ounces of PAG 100 in. My questition is should I have put oil in each new component I put in or just put the proper amount in the compressor and roll on?

hey guys. new here, first post. just got a new tekonsha P3 controller to tow our camper with, and this truck is new to me. I've gone over just about everything I could (I have FSM wiring diagrams of everything) and Its just not making sense, think Ive thought it over too many times. truck is a 2000 CTD 2500 - factory tow harness front to rear, factory hitch, factory 7 pin, and it all works fine. i have power everywhere that i should, except for the incab connector to hook up my brake controller. i've also checked the 40amp trailer tow fuse, and the fuse is good. this is where ive gotten confused, and am probably going to come off kinda dumb. theres no power at this fu…

Blew a water pump. I think the antifreeze caused the alternator belt to slip. Check gauges light came on. Voltmeter went to 0. I was surprised as most voltmeters are reading entire system voltage and batteries are still up. Does the dodge voltmeter just read alternator out put? On a related subject. I only get 50,000 miles on NAPA new water pumps. This truck and my older 1st gen also. Is that typical pump life for these pumps?

Hi all, So I have always wanted to upgrade my steering to a sold tie rod setup, and to fix the popping/clunking noise my steering wheel makes when turned. I recently came across this page http://www.mark74.com/ram_modifications.htm#crossover%20steering and I would like to hear from guys who have done the 98-99 heavy duty steering upgrade on a 2000-01. Also from anyone who had done the Rock Solid Steering Bushing on the same year truck. It all sounds too good to be true and I'm wondering why these mods aren't more common if they are so great? Only bad thing I've heard about either is that the bushing for the Rock Solid Steering can get tight in cold …

So its been winter here, and during this period my wife backed into front of my truck. Quite a lot of damage to hers, almost not a scratch on mine. However summer is here an I go to put on AC and nada. So obvious thought is she damaged the AC condensor at front. I black light everything - cant see anything from the previous dye..... might be too old. I vacuum everything down. It goes from 28HG to around 25HG in around 4 hours. So must have a leak. So then I primed with compressed air to 100psi through high with system open (means both sides at 100). Couldn't hear any leaks. Sprayed with soapy water - that didn't do anything except make a …

When I bought my truck previous owner installed new calipers to hopefully fix a problem with the front passenger side wearing down quicker.I have since replaced all the hard brake lines and installed new pads. It seems there is still a problem with the right side. Symptoms are twice the amount of brake dust on that side.. the warmer the brakes get it starts to squeal. . There is is an ever so slight pull to that side at times.. and the brakes seem to become more grabby the warmer they get. Im also starting to feel a slight pulsation like the rotor is slightly warped. The only thing I can think of would be to change the soft lines.. right? Anything else I should look at/fo…

Hey guys, just want to make sure, all hoods from 94-02 trucks will be/fit any truck from that same year regardless or 1500/2500/3500 right? Im looking at getting a hood from a 2001 1500 and just wanted to make sure it'll fit my 99.

A month or so ago I was leaving my brothers house when i noticed that my ABS airbag and brake were lit on the dash. I stopped and restarted the engine and the lights went away. Had that happen a couple more times when i noticed that the ignition switch was not returning all the way after starting. The switch had also been stiff to turn a few times. Figured my stater switch was giving out. I broke out my new key thats been hanging on the wall since i bought the truck and that issue went a way. So figured the old key might have been the cause. I could even remove that old key with the engine running, it was pretty worn after 14 years of use. I have not had those troubles o…

I'm not good at all when it comes to electrical. I would like to wire up some fog lights, rear back up lights, third brake light on my topper and moon visor lighting. I'd like to know if I can just wire the third brake light into the tail light or hitch wiring without a relay? It's LED I believe... The moon visor lighting... can I just wire it into the headlight switch somehow.. without relay? I already have fog lights in the factory location in the bumper but are not factory wired. The previous owner installed with relay and toggle. I want to run another set of fog lights under the bumper on a toggle. I have wiring and relay that came …

Hey guys, I'm not 100% sure if the drivers side rear door was replaced (no vin tag) or just put back together after installing a new speaker without replacing these tabs but it's loose, and I want to get new ones so it doesn't rattle. Anyone know the part number or where to get them? The yellow tabs in the pic

Now that I'm getting the OBDLink dialed in and closer and closer to accurate for data logs, trip computer and anything else. I figure I needed a nice cradle to hold the tablet. Now I'll admit that it not exactly viewable while driving which is good, there is less chances of me mess with the tablet while driving or watch the gauges too much. I rigged the important gauges to have high markers so I can capture a screenshot when I stop somewhere. Now my cradle barely clears the transmission stick and I've got to be careful throwing 5th not to cram it in. The tablet barely fits with all cables hooked up including audio back to my stereo. I can see the tablet clearly in 2nd an…

My friends, I'm trying to understand the bushings that are on these tailgates. I'm confused on part #17 and #1 on the diagram. I just ordered two of the #17; those are the bushings that sit on the bed and the pivots (#5/#16) slide into (hence why it says 2 for quantity). I'm just confused as to what the #1 is for on the diagram. It says you only need one (1) of them? Right hand side only? It's weird because when I look up the part number it looks like what I just ordered (2nd photo). Again, I'm just confused on whether or not I need to replace another part (#1) or if I am missing it all together? I'm replacing this #17 because the tailgate…

I hope someone can shed some light on this issue for me. On my 99 3500 2wd last year I put all new brake hardware on the truck. Rotor/hubs, calipers, pads and this weekend had to put a new drum, wheel cylinder and shoes on one side in the rear. What happens is that just recently the truck started shaking, bouncing when applying brakes from a speed above 50 or so. Yesterday I pulled the front wheels and checked the rotor runout and the passenger side is only about .001" but the driver side is right at .007" runout on the face. Also looks like some hot spots on both rotors also. I put high end pads on the truck. Will the cheaper pads run cooler? Is tha…

I just set up my pressure washing rig in the back of my truck. I would estimate I have maybe 250 pounds that sits after the axle. Do you think this could affect the front end? Like making it more sensitive to every little bump? PS.. I'm not worried Nick

Hi guys, I put new tires on a year ago. A little after I did, I started hearing some rubbing during turning. I did not oversize the tiers. I went with the 265's that had been on there before. Well, today I finally saw where the rubbing sound must have been coming from. It is in the passenger front tire well. The rubber line that terminates at the hub. I'll post up pictures in a second. I'm going to have to replace the line. But I did nothing but put on new tires. I'm trying to figure out what is causing it to rub. I can't tell that the mount got turned or bent. Any ideas?

Hi everyone, I recently picked up a new to me 2001 ram 2500. The truck is a 2001 non sport 2500 qclb 4x4 auto. I bought the truck a few weeks ago seeing as it was pretty well maintained with very minimal rust. This is the only electrical problem on the truck. The right front parking lamp does not work with the lights on causing the right blinker to blink fast and cluster has the right signal illuminated with lights on. Its not the bulb or socket. I noticed when i opened the hood when the underhood light comes on so does the right front parking lamp. How can this happen?

This is on a 96' 2500 12v 4x4 auto. I replaced the rear brake shoes, drums, upgraded to GM cylinders and flushed the system. Front brakes are in excellent condition. Everything has been working fine until about a week ago. The rear brakes are really grabby and will lock up easily until the ABS system kicks in. I haven't had a chance to pull the drums yet but there are no visible leakes and everything looks ok. Could the proportion valve have crapped the bed?

I know a lot of people have to transmission work at home on their shop floor without a lift. I wish I would of shot pictures on the way out. What you need is 2 cam buckle straps and 2 ratchet straps. On the way down you put both cam buckle strap across under the transmission on at the front and one at the rear. Hooking to the frame one on left and on right side. Once the transmission is loose wiggle a bit and allow it to be cradled in the straps. Single man can hold like the rear strap ease it down a few inches and then swap. Now the photo here I used the ratchet straps to lift it back up but doubled up with cam buckle straps. So again ratchet strap can be reset …
