I have been wanting to upgrade the bolts/bushings on my TT from the OEM dry bolts and nylon bushings to wet bolts and bronze bushings. I found that the complete kit from Dexter was the best way to go, not only do I get the wet bolts and bronze bushings, but I get their EZ-Flex equalizer which will absorb more impact shock than the springs alone. I got the kit a couple months ago, and just got around to installing it last week. The parts are excellent quality, and based on the condition of the OEM nylon bushings I was due. I have approx 7K miles on my TT, many of those on rough dirt roads, and about 1/3 of the OEM bushings wouldn't have made it another season witho…

Do you guys take the crank off to get those to stay stuffed in each vent or do you simply cut a hole in the pillow to let the crank into the pillow? Do they stay in pretty well or should I take them back for store credit? T.I.A.

I bought my truck about 2 years ago and it has a Jake Brake (the real thing made by Jacobs) with the Cummins name on it. It seems to work correctly though I'm not sure I'm using it correctly. It only engages above 35 mph and when you give it gas at any speed it disengages. My question is when I'm towing my 10k travel trailer, do I leave the pull switch on the gear shifter engaged all the time or do I engage it only when I think i need it? Thanks,Stew

I am no tire expert by any means but was told this second hand info, so take it for what its worth. lol A guy bought a trailer second hand and it had been barely used maybe 4 years old. He took it on a 300 mile round trip to haul some propane tanks ends up blowing 6 new tires that came with the trailer, the two that didn't blow had already been replaced. Tire sales man told him there is a active ingredient in the rubber that if not used will cause tire to break down the cord and come apart.

I know this should be a no-brainer, replace the bearing and race or just get a new hub. Not that easy. The trailer in question was built by myself starting with an old camper. I tore off the shell, reenforced the frame and installed a wooden deck. Its a 2 axle (axles are old dexter 3500lb axles with the Dexstar wheels) front axle has elec brakes. rear axle is just a plain hub. One of the rear hubs had a rough bearing. Once removed i find that the larger inner bearing is bad, the bearing race is pitted as well. UGH! I need this trailer to haul our motorcycles on an upcoming trip to Florida, about 2500 miles round trip. I contacted etrailer and have had no luck as of …

Alright fellas, I need to put this issue at rest! I'm torn on what to pick for an exhaust brake! I have an auto so its not as cut and dry as it would be for someone with a manual. If you guys would not mind, please use the poll. I'm trying to obviously keep the cost down, but when some have better features, technology, etc. it is worth paying a little extra. Exhaust brakes themselves are not as an issue as is the controller for the transmission. Was looking at the ATS coPilot as I was reading I could control the point at when the tranny would unlock. Therefore controlling how effective the EB would be at a slower speed.. If you have a suggestion of a d…

We have a 22 ft bumper pull toy hauler and as anyone pulling a TH knows they are heavy compared to a similar travel trailer especially tongue weight. Ours, while being rather short, weighs in between 7400 and 8700 lbs depending on toys, water and fuel in the fueling station, but usually has 1100+ on the tongue. Our old hitch, a Eaz-Lift 1,000/10,000 has always been a bit over loaded on the tongue but not gross and has shown no signs of damage. But now our TH is in the shop getting the tongue extended about 24 inches so that we can place our Yamaha gen, new air compressor and the usual batteries, propane cylinders and electric tongue jack out front, with the additional len…

I know there is a few of you that might use your RV's through the winter time or just in cold temperatures. Like myself I wanted to keep propane bills low as possible, save water by not having to warm the pipe up again, and just prevent freezing if used in cold temps. So I went down to the local hardware store (C & M Lumber) and picked up several lengths of foam pipe insulation for the RV. You want to look for the insulation that has adhesive on the split part also RV you want 1/2" pipe insulation. It a pretty basic install cut cut to fit, slide the foam over the pipe, pull the cover tape and stick together. Now when it comes to cutting corners it will take some practic…

Hey Gang.... MoparMom and I just got home last night. We ran away from home with the RV. Went down south to Emmett, ID for the first night. Pick up a few things and a new BBQ grill for the RV. Then head back up Hwy 55 and turned off at Banks, ID and went to Hot Springs campground. http://goo.gl/maps/9nFRG Nice campground. Has water and vault toilets. Pull through spots for larger RV's or back in spots as well. There is a small hot spring on the other side of the highway but it a good hike down to it. Solar Power Update As for a good test run for the solar panels and inverter they worked awesome. I flipped on the TV in the hot part of the afternoon and st…

Finally! got the 'green light' from the Manufacturer... THE PAINT WAS DRY!!! Ordered a 16' bumper pull livestock trailer for my FiL, and a new flatbed for the '00 Ram... Both are Circle D, made in Hillsboro Kansas. They've been back ordered since June.. Lets just say, this was NOT the most aerodynamically way to haul! This was a 140 mile trip one way, and used 10 gallons to get there, and 20 to get home. notice the sliver of Toyota pickup on left border... ha ha. and the Wally world 2 stroke jug on ground..

I ended up buying a 2007 Montana 3500rl 5th wheel. It's really nice and seems like something I can live in without feeling too much like trailer trash. Lol. $26,000. It's totally cherry. Has like 200 miles on it and has been thoroughly gone through by a retired RV guy doing it as a sideline. It weighs about 10k empty. Not sure my truck is up to the task, but it's only going 30 miles and being parked. NADA is $29,000 and change. Big features are 4 slides, living room that has sliding doors to close it off, cold weather package, nice free standing oak dining table and chairs, desk in living room for computer. Living expenses will will be pretty low. Renting an…

Well back when my ex and I were splitting I let someone else (a local big Trailer sales and service place) repack my bearings on my horse trailer as I had other things on my front burner and they needed to be done... I will let the pictures speak for themselves.... I cleaned the old bearings in some Colman fuel but alas, the bearings are toast and need to buy new ones Soooooo, This is why I hate letting anyone work on my vehicles

Yeah gang... I ran away with the RV once again. This trip I learn a lesson. Consider you short cuts and road conditions wisely. MoparMom and I ran out toward Lewiston, ID for a two day getaway. But on my way to Lewiston I normally always take Tolo Lake cut off and sneak across a few miles of dirt roads to save a bit of time. Well this time the roads where wet and possibly freshly graded. I look in the mirrors and could see mud being slung as high as the roof. I couldn't resist I had to grab the camera and shot some pictures.

On the way home, trailered the 5th wheel. Had a few CAT scales I was going to pass so decided to stop at one at the LOVES gas station.Got the truck/trailer weighed. Me, wife and dogs with some extra stuff that we packed for the over night drive to pick our trailer up from family's house. Black tank is about 1/2 full. So that weight is incorporated too. Black tank is in front of axles. Was gonna dump, but my sewer solution kit did not come as it should have...So here are the numbers, someone help me make sense?!Truck, trailer together:Steer axle: 4340 lbs.Drive Axle: 6360 lbs.Trailer axles: 10120 lbs.Gross weight: 20820 lbs.JUST trailer on scale:Front jacks: 4580 lbs.Rear …

So the family is wanting to get an RV, I have only ever heard generic advice or read articles from places trying to sell me things. So a list of my concerns and thoughts... Pop outs. I have heard to avoid like the plague and I have heard that they can be decent. Other that slide grease, how does one prevent leaks? Are they worth the trouble? Maintenance of seals? I'm leaning towards a 5'er, but self propelled and bumper pull are not out of the question. I would like the option to double tow if it isn't self propelled. Maybe an airstream? They seem to hold up for a long time and are built a lot like a rail car from what I have seen. Am …

The Wife and I ended up getting a new TT this past week. Our 18CK (22') was getting a little too small on rainy days, and cold mornings with 3 rug rats. We got a Outdoors RV Creekside 26BKS (29') with a 12' slide and bunk beds. Should be a great trailer for the family. We spend 95% of the day outside when camping, but for that other 5% the room will be very handy. The main reason we decided to upgrade is that our 2007 Pioneer is still worth about 90% of what we paid for it in 2007 (got a screaming deal) and we got the 26BKS about 35% off MSRP. It has some great features, 12' Slide, 4 Seasons, HD axles, lots of ground clearance, plenty of storage for my 4 girls, etc …
