The time has come to produce the Mopar1973Man High Idle & MPG fooler switches again.

Posted

Well Gang,

The Board of Directors on the Mopar1973Man.com has decided that we need to produce some new High Idle Switches for the 2nd gen 24V Cummins.  We have spent a considerable amount of time designing a Brand New High Idle / MPG fooler Switch.

We have learned from the last switch design and have made significant improvements.  The New High Idle / MPG Fooler switch will be the same price as before, but it will be more robust and modular to allow for easier install.

We have decided to only offer a "Install Anywhere  Kit" rather than a gauge mount or Cubby Mount.  You will nly have to drill one 1/4" hole to allow for the fitment of the switch.

Some teaser pictures.

We are making 50 switches to start then another run of 50 after that.  You can order them from The Mopar1973Man.com Store I expect to have them ready to ship within a 6 week time.

All high idle sales will be here on the site for here on out. We will be the producers, vendors and the support team rolled into one...

  • I finally installed my high idle switch today.  I put in in the overhead console.  The cable that comes with the switch is just a little too short.  I ordered a 12" extension from Amazon and I was abl

I work at a dodge dealer. They definitely can enable high idle for u. its easy to do. They don't need the vin. Hooking up the old drb scan tool to the truck. Getting the software p/n on the pcm. Run the tech tools program to see if it's up to date. If it is, just gotta enable it with the drb. 3 cyl high idle enable is under engine then misc menus on the drb scan tool. Tell them that. They will know what ur talking about.

We should rent out a smarty for DIY. Like $50. Probably cheaper than a dealership visit. Maybe we could find an old one somewhere?

We discussed this last year but never had the product in time. So it might be a great idea for BoD to discuss and see if we can raise the funds to do such. (Time to head to the BoD forum...)

if the pcm is not updated to the lastest software where the high idle is. will the smarty be able to still activate it?

I keep saying PCM its located in the cummins ECU.

I just used the Diesel Auto Power rental when I did mine. You pay the rental fee, they send it to you with a return label, you do your flash and play around a bit, then return to stock and send back to DAP. Pretty easy set up. Maybe there is a member here that has a smarty already and wouldnt mind making some cash by renting it out once in a while? Just an idea.

Just to show progress... I've got a bag of parts and @Me78569 has got a bag of parts. So now I'm waiting on the circuit boards to be produced. Sometime around mid October we'll have circuit boards in hand.

I'd love to see you make one of these.  I'm interested in the same thing.

That is how I would like to do it, but the current model doesn't have a long enough harness to reach.  An extension would have to be made.

I finally got around to doing some data logging of what the high idle switch actually does.

Here is idle state while coolant was coolish

idle.PNG

Timing with the fooler turned off was ~16*, flip the fooler to set IAT to 143*, and timing drops to 12.7*

FYI On startup with fooler turned off timing has been as high as 22* with overnight temps near freezing.  Summer timing is ~11.75-12.75*

Once operating temp is reached OEM timing goes back to normal.

Moving Timing

Doing ~40 mph in 3rd coolant up to ~185

Moving.PNG

Fooler off timing was reading ~19.5* flip the fooler on to bring IAT up to 143*f and timing drops to ~17.5*

At idle that makes sense to me.

Moving... It seems backwards from what I expected.
