In search of new bulbs and headlight assemblies. What are the best combo packs for those dark nights? And winter nights..  LED'S or HID's? Preferably something that isn't going to cost a fortune. Amazon works the best.

I put oe style new lenses and bulbs for $75. Now that not a fortune. I know thats not what your after but the new lenses made quite a difference.

I use Flosser 9104 blubs. they are a direct fit replacement for the stock 9004 55 watt blub and for the low beam in the sport headlight.  These are 80 watt low beam and 100 watt high beam.  This is a cheap way to improve the lighting out put.  I've been using the same blubs for 11 years.

 

Whatever you do don't get cheapo housings from Amazon.  OEMs have a better reflector.  Issue with OEM is simply the bulbs are halogen which are limited by gas to ~500 lumens( I think) 

 

Hotter bulbs put out more light at the expense of shorter life.

 

Personally I recommend retrofitting projectors and hids. 

 

 

 

 

Whatever you do don't put hids in the OEM housings without a projector.  The housing was designed to reflect light from a build with a filament, using hids in a halogen housing will scatter light and it will blind people.

How long do the bulbs usually last?

I put the same blubs in my son's Volvo.  They lasted 4 years of college and at least a couple of years at home.   They cost me about $10 each from my supplier.  EBay has them for $12.

@IBMobile Are they working on the oe wiring? A lot more wattage on those.

Stock wires, connectors and housings.  No problems.

Sport housings with a bought or home made brite box.

@Hockeyfm13 I believe I derailed your thread on what you are looking for. It would appear that @Me78569 might be your man on what you are actually looking for. All I have ever had is the oe style.

Is the Flosser brand important?

I think Flosser is the only company that makes the 9104 blub.

IB, just making sure I'm understanding what you're doing.....  You've installed these in the Sport headlights or the non-Sport headlights?  Reason I ask is because the Sport lenses are plastic whereas the non-Sports are glass.

Not to get off topic..but I miss the JW Speaker's on my JK.  I kept my lighting before I sold the vehicle....just waiting to use them again someday.  I am also in the market for a set of housings for my 98.  Too bad there isn't an American company who manufactures a nice set of housings.

My non-sport head lights are plastic.  Here's a pic of one after I cleaned it. 

 

My 02 is plastic also. 

Well dang fellas.....I learned something new here.  I was always under the impression the non-Sport head lights were glass.

 

So then I guess the intent of my original question to IB was whether or not there was any issues with heat and the plastic lenses using the higher wattage bulbs, but I'm guessing that would be a big fat nope.

I see that Hella has also come out with a verison of those 9104 flosser bulbs. @IBMobile do you ever get anyone flashing their brites back at you? I would just be worried about blinding people with these things.
