plans of turning the tack area into a 4' short wall LQ 2 horse.  I am getting pretty excited to move away from the truck bed camper.

i have a plasma cutter that i think I've used 4 times. rest of time it's a sawzall. it's faster and cleaner than firing the cutter up. just  a few blades.

all told loaded with everthing we use to camp for a week, the UTV side by side, 120Gallon water and food, firewood, yada yada. i'm just under 13K. but had been over 14K once. it tows like a dream. winds don't bother it. lots of room for wife and 2 kids n a dog. and a 4 seater Can-Am Commander UTV. mpg's are nice too. usually around 10-12 pending how fast i go.

 

Side note, when cutting metal, most of the time it's faster and easier to use a sawzall.

Dont get me wrong I like a fifth wheel. Mines about 15k loaded. It handles well. The 13' of height will catch some wind but no white knuckles driving it and I average 11 mpg. I try for 65 and under. Just bigger than I want now.

The oscillation plunge cutter works wonders in hard to reach places. I couldn't get a sazall blade to get in there when cutting off some welded in Air Bags. Welded to the goose neck frame it buzzed them right off. Nice and loud though

Dripley, is it true a fifth wheel helps save marriages? I heard cause a guy has a pretty good place to go to when goin gets rough.

yea the sawzall is making easy work of the wall... I feel dumb for not thinking of that.

Taking this wall back ~4 feet.  Got one wall done and working on the other now.

 

I have 2 more welds to cut and the wall is ready to push back.   pretty excited.  Damned batteries dont last long enough on the sawzall.

Well it was a long journey, but for the low low low price of $400 I am the proud owner of this.

In other news I got around to redoing the floor with 3/4 plywood and a sink cabinet made for the corner of the trailer

not yet,  I had the plywood from the floor so I wanted to use up the scrap.  still not even sure where the tank will sit.

Keep it simple.  Put a shelf above the sink for a 5 gallon water jug.  The water supply could be gravity fed and you wouldn't need a pump.

Got the rear gate worked on this weekend,  I still have to mock up a latch, but I am very happy at this point.  

 

I got really sick of the ramp being 1,000,000# and having to bend over to lift it etc.   Wife couldn't do it.  

 

It was like this.   

 

 

 

 

I gutted the ramp, removed about 100# worth of plywood and rubber,  then reinforced the door with metal as seen below.  I put the ramp up, locked it in place, then welded 4x hinges, 2 on each side.  I then used a straight edge to cut down the door at 2' on the left to give us a tack door.

 

 

I still have some cleanup to do, grind the edges etc, but I am happy. 

 

Next is that back brace on the floor is getting cut out and replaced due to rust,  After that the floor goes in and we are ready to use it to move the ***, I mean horse.  

 

 

In other related news the state finally gave me a title for this thing.  I am the proud owner of this bad boy according to the state of colorado.
