I have noticed recently that sometimes upon cold start my truck will idle at 900rpms instead of the usual 825 rpms. Iv also noticed that when accelerating I can seemingly feel dead spots in the pedal at times. Could my apps be going out? I can rev the truck and it will still idle high but when put in gear and driven and stopped it’s back to 825. Thoughts? Also I had a P0336 come up and replaced the crankshaft sensor with a Napa part and code went away along with the symptoms so that’s out of question.

  • I adjusted the valves a lot. One head gasket.  Lots of leaky valves, broken exhaust manifold gaskets, injectors, and stuff like that.  Nothing on the bottom end other than the tappet cover leaking.  W

I thought so to but was told apps issues usally throw a code immediatly?

Typically yes. If the APPs falls out of range either hi or lo voltage it trips a code instantly and ignores the throttle signal for safety to prevent a WOT run away if it happens to be a hi volt issue. 

 

Dang... I wish you had a Quad I tell you to just monitor the TPS signal and watch and see if it does anything strange during the dead pedal issue. You could do it if you have an OBD live data tool too but I'm not sure if you have one.

Shop has a Snap On Modus so i can watch it. 

Dead pedal was a way of life with 24v.  I don't remember ever seeing codes.

Still proud of the miles I have gotten out of this truck but about to drop some cash with the head gasket. It will be agood time to clean up under the hood. Still all in all I have eneded up ahead on keeping the beast.

I believe after the hg you can get another 500k out of it without major engine work. Good luck with the hg job.

Probably the best purchase I have ever made on a vehicle. Thanks for the good wishes. I feel the same way. 

 

Perhaps on my last ride in this truck my son will not feel the need to call ahead and ask them to dig a bigger hole. I am going to have a lot of fun with my son over that remark he made to me a while back. I hope I get many years out of it as I have the truck.

Ordered the '99 and it is definitely the best purchase I have made on a vehicle too! In fact it is the only NEW vehicle I've ever had.

The Dodge/Cummins has been amazingly reliable with only a few issues over the more than 19 years and 259K miles. I still enjoy driving it every time.

The 6 speed is awesome and so glad I was able to order as equipped.  The truck was delivered with 245/75/16 Michelins and I've run a set of 235/85/16 for a few winters over the years....maybe 30k of the miles.

With the 245/75/16s the tach shows 1750 at 60 mph and it might be a hair over 60 ......this is in 6th gear.

These truck are not designed to be driven short trip where the engine never builds full temperature. Really common out here where people live in a little town like Riggins, ID and never less than a full mile back and forth to work. A typical diesel engine will get washed out quickly because they never reach full temperature for very long if at all. Bad for even a gasoline engine to live that way. This is most of the reason why I've got good longevity from my truck. Riggins, ID is a 30-mile round trip. McCall is a 70-mile round trip. Either way I got I'm getting the full operating temperature and putting distance down. Ontario, OR trip for MoparMom is 250-mile round trip every Tues., Thurs., and Sat.

When you say full op temp you meaning 190* for coolant temp?
