Hi All,

I have an 02 2500 6sp diesel truck that has a bad AC compressor that I plan on replacing.  I decided to buy the kit from rock auto that contains the compressor, condenser, orifice tube, accumulator, and some seals.  I figured since the truck has the original components and the kit was not bad in price, I would just install the new kit.

This is the first time I am replacing items like and I want to make sure I do this properly and don't screw things up. Not willing to pay the prices to have others install these components.  I have been doing my research and I think I have everything I need, but I have a few questions I was hoping you guys could help with:

1. Pag Oil - Since I am replacing the compressor, condenser, accumulator, and orifice tube, it was a little unclear to me how much PAG Oil I should be adding to the components.  I found a section in the service manual that states the following:

Refrigerant Oil Capacities

A/C System  6.2oz
Accumulator  2oz
Condenser 1oz
Evaporator 2oz
Compressor- drain and measure the oil from the old compressor.

When an air conditioning system is assembled at the factory, all components except the compressor are refrigerant oil free. After the refrigerant system has been charged and operated, the  refrigerant oil in the compressor is dispersed throughout the refrigerant system. The accumulator, evaporator, condenser, and compressor will each retain a significant amount of the needed refrigerant oil.

1a. So, where I get confused is if I need to add oil to the accumulator and condenser separately or will the oil get dispersed throughout the system?

1b. When replacing the compressor, should I measure the amount of oil that comes out of the old compressor and only put that amount back into the new compressor?  What is there was some oil loss over time?  Not sure if that was the case, but just a question I had.

Once I replace all the components and vacuum test the system, I plan on taking it to a AC shop to have them recharge the system for me with the proper 1.87 lbs of refrigerant.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Mike

you do not have to add to each component the oil is carried around with the refrigerant I would add what is needed for the accumulator condenser and measure what your can remove from the compressor. p

  • Something I haven't seen mentioned: when replacing a compressor it is ALWAYS recommend to spin the hub (not pulley) around by hand before starting the engine. This will prevent compressor from hydro l

IBMobile did a great job on my A/C system. So good to have someone do it all as I was going thru a lawsuit, had me pretty messed up and could only do the usual things . Anyhow I won the case and now getting rest. All I can say is I'll never try helping another marginal sort, letting them on my land in an RV was a big mistake. His lawyer was an evil dude.

Thursday was 88, got in the truck at days end and was wonderful..... Thank you IBMobile My hats off to you too. :USflag:

one thing i was told is when you refill a system DO NOT use the recharge stuff with sealant, it ruins stuff and stays in there and just causes problems if you replace things.  best to find the leak and fix it instead of sealing it.

Pag100 for lubrication in the A/C system ,  A/C mineral oil to lubricate the O-rings for assembly.

The Santech AC kit I got had wrong Compressor.

Anyone have experience with the Four Seasons Brand AC System components?

Nothing Is made outside of China, so I dropped that qualifier. :)

I am pretty sure thats what I used 3 years ago on mine. It still functions fine. I looked alot back then and from looking at their photos they mostly looked like the same compressor. They all had good and bad reviews and made in China. I got tired of trying to find the best, didn't seem to be one.

Thanks.  Of course it’s 90 here today.  Got the Compressor off and found it’s not even close.  Line connects on side vice the rear as on OEM
If I buy the 4 Seasons from RA it’s 192.90 savings compared to AZ and that includes Fedex.  Everything was wrong with AZ kit plus I had to buy an Orifice Line separately.
$192.90 is $192.90, you know what I mean?
Hope you and yours are OK with this COVID-19.

I believe this is the one I bought. I spent about 250 buck on everything to do mine with. The wife's Saturn went the next and it was almost double what I spent on mine, That one thru RA also. A lot cheaper than buying thru them than anyone local.

We are fairing well out here with the COVID, but it is out there. Have not missed one day work since construction was deemed necessary. I even have travel documents to prove that I am. One government and one company issued. Strange. Hope all is well out your way and you leaks are minimal.

Thanks. AZ returned my money and I’m  going with the Four Season Package.  It’s half dozen @nd another buying anything anymore. We just hope there was no unhappy employee in China that day.

COVID 19 is real. I know of 2 COVID cases.  One, a long time friends wife died and another’s Uncle survived it. I’ll be 66 on Wednesday and we’ll I toy with it.     Too many projects to do.?

Good you got your money back. Maybe your compressor will be built on a Wednesday.

And happy B'day to ya. I made 67 in March.

Thanks.

B-days come to way quick now.
I use to wish I had tools.

Now that I have “almost” what I want, I’m hoping I will have enough time to use the tools.

Leaky,

Just a bit on 4 seasons.  I like them.  They make a lot of products for AC and engine cooling systems.  They seem to have a pretty decent R&D dept.  They are not perfect, I have had some bad things from them.  But when given choices, I will tend to use 4 seasons stuff and never worry about it.  I find that most of their products are as good as OEM, or in some cases designed to help/overcome a flaw in the OEM part.

Just my $0.02

Hag

Good timing I just ordered a full AC replacement from RA. Tired of the compressor leak that has me fill every spring and add a can every month. I got mostly Four Seasons parts.

:)As I age, good tires, power steering, cruise control, a bag of tools, and a properly functioning AC are paramount.  I can deal with the rest.
