Quick question for the experts! Currently working on bleeding my fuel system after installing a new VP44 and some injectors (all from DAP). I've bypassed the relay on my FASS165 because currently i'm unable to bump start the truck with my wiring harness being removed. While having it bypassed I am able to get fuel to flow out of the #5 injector line but that is it, I cracked the lines on #1, #3 as well as the #3 line that connects to the VP also.

 

Does the VP have to be turned over in order to see fuel flow to the other injectors? In my head it makes sense this is the case but I'm looking for input, I hope to have my harness installed tomorrow and maybe turn this pig over finally!

Yes you have to crank the engine. leave 3 or 4 injectors cracked and crank the engine.  Once they show fuel squirting out tighten them down.  It will usually start once you have fuel out of 3 injectors. 

 

I would agree with the above. You have the fuel all the way to one injector just need to get it to rest. That a wiring harness back on.

Thanks I would have been able to turn over the truck today however my nightmare with Auto Computer Specialist has continued and they have either replaced the ECM male connector or the ECM female main connector and now the two items are not connecting. I specifically asked them if my harnesses where tested with my ECM and PCM and they confirmed verbally and over correspondence. 

 

This is just one of many many instances I've had with Auto Computer Specialist, I would never recommend them to anyone again unless it was a serious need. I'm waiting to talk with the owner before I compete a full write up of my issues with this company as I feel they deserve one last change to give me strait answers.

 

(I had named company rebuild both PCM and ECM along with the engine and transmission harness although they have also charged me for an injector harness rebuild which I don't agree with)

I lost my original ECM back in 2010. The trip thru an ECM rebuild l made was a journey l would not wish on anyone.

It would be easy to fight the injector harness rebuild since your truck is not a common rail and doesn't have an injector harness. I hate to hear your'e having troubles with ACS. Seemed like a good company until I hear your horror story. Hopefully you get to talk to the owner and he makes things right.

It will make it tough to start because fuel pressure is too high during cranking you want 7 to 12 PSI during cranking. So this is not a good way of starting up a fresh VP44.

You should only open 1,3,4 lines that it. Leave the other closed. Crank it till it nearly starts or starts and close the lines up. Yo should have to open a all the lines. You need some kept closed so the pump can build pressure against something. Once 1,3,4 clear out and pumping then close them and it will start and run on 1,3,4 and now the pump can clear 2,5,6 with pump running. Typically clears fairly easy. 

 

I've got one at my house brand new DAP VP44 that failed on first start one of my first ones. Started and ran limited to 1,300 RPM and several error codes. I just got the new pump on Tues day and today got to change it out. Another re-prime and startup. I've gotten to about 1.5 to 2.0 hours to change a VP44 pretty simple. 

Truck is finally up and running after getting my items back from ACS, that company is a real piece of work. I'm not sure if they have new owners or what but zero regards to customer service. I've been waiting for over a week now on a promised phone call from the owners to discuss the slew of issues I've dealt with regarding their business. 

 

Either way you can see my google review on them, the truck is doing well dealing what I want to classify as a misfire during idle and low throttle applications, never had this before until injectors. LP is providing 16-18 psi under all conditions going to look through lines tomorrow and I'm not having any hard/cold start issues at this time. Any suggestions? 

Repop or test the injectors to verify pop pressure are good.

Yes sir. Another member here @pepsi71ocean had a set of 100 HP injectors by DAP after 28k miles the pop pressure fell below 280 bar and start having stalling issues. Once re-popped stall issue went away. This just points out that new injectors can settle and drop nearly 10 bar in 30k miles. It happens. Heck even my previous +75HP (7 x 0.0085) only last 70k miles and start misfiring at idle hot. Again pop pressure was below 270 bar. 

 

One of my few reason with the 150 HP (7 x 0.010) I had popped at 320 bar giving me more longevity for these injectors. Cleaner spray less smoke. Problem is I do not suggest raising the pop pressure on anything less than 100 HP.

If you just installed these injectors you might call DAP and talk to them. I had a bad miss after install and they sent me a another set quickly and just asked me to return  first set when I got a chance. It wasn’t convenient that the first set didn’t function correctly but it sure was nice they sent me another set right away at no charge and without having to return the first set.

Thanks I plan to call today and talk with them, it's a very weird stutter. As soon as I give it some throttle the stutter goes away however under light throttle is stumbles. My EGTs are also hanging out around 800 (manifold temp) while cruising 45-50mph boost leak maybe? 

Timing can cause rough idle and higher EGT. Did you get the right number key in the pump shaft. It also has an arrow on it too. Has to be installed correctly.

Boost leaks even massive will cause EGT to rise that much unless towing. I removed the wastewater hose left it open. Then pulled one bolt out the manifold. Even with all this blowing and whistling noises I drop maybe 5 to 7 PSI. EGTs only rose maybe 50 to 100°F. Still made 40 PSI.

So you're one of those guys that goes down the road with the wastewater hose open are ya?
