J-Hook '01-'02 Automatics (for HY Turbos) Dodge Cummins (182555)

Here is a quick way to increase your boost . Available for the '01-'02 24 Valve Cummins engine equipped with the 47RE automatic transmission. The J-Hook regulates the waste gate, facilitating greater boost numbers which rise even higher as performance modifications are added. The higher volume of air will also help keep exhaust temperatures down.

Has any used or know about these? Just asking before I bought one.

Used a $3 turnbuckle from lowes - and keep it under 30 PSI :thumbup2:

I'm about to do same ....

Dont you have to have some sort of a boost fooler in order to use a boost elbow or j hook? I think it wll throw a check engine light or maybe just an overboost code.

Yeap you need a boost fooler of some sort so the ECM doesn't see the boost rise above 20 PSI. Other than that the P0234 code is triped and the engine defuels heavily to get it way down below 20 PSI... Because at this point the ECM assumes the wastegate is rusted shut.

Does a chip fool the ECM?

oddly, the MAC scan tool shows my MAP sensor reading 14psi... at idle.. WTFLOL

whew! I was just about to swap that $100 part! LOLburping the throttle will show a quick spike to 15-15.5psi, settling back to 14ish..what are you logging with, and such?

~14 psi is atmospheric pressure. any above that is boost. my scan tool says the same thing...see https://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=0AhHyLR2_DBOgdGhnRFgxR210Y1BWeFRWekFEbG1ZM0E&hl=en

Yeap that right its PSIa is the measurement... So do all your reading with a 14 PSI offset.

ahh, ok, thanks!

Another tidbit I forget the last post is the 0-14 PSIa is a vacuum so like using a SGII on Mom's 96 Gasser will read about 1.1 PSIa to 14 PSIa at WOT.

I have 1 that I bought from tst products... I like it alot better than a turnbuckle, just my opinion, it limits boost to 29 psi and eliminates the need to watch the gauge constantly.. A chip or boost fooler is needed to keep from setting codes..

Thanks to everyone why replied. I am about to install a new vp 44 pump and will do the j hook afterwords.

Just be careful not to over spool the HY and pop it. It runs out of its map at about 33-34 psi, the HX about 35-36 psi!:thumbup2:

The bully dog J-hook is crap dont even waist your money mine broke while installing it what a pos never again

Me and ISX put on the $3 turnbuckle from lowes last night. Set the edge to alert on 30+ PSI. Never been over 23 psi prior - hit 30+ PSI 3 times in our 10 minute drive :):thumbup2:

big difference?

His EGT's were a lot lower. Boost has a big effect on that. Clamping off the wastegate also helps since you don't have to outflow it to get more than 20psi. His is nice because the chip will defuel at 30psi or something, so you kinda still have a virtual wastegate.

that's pretty sweet. I hope to get some sort of power upgrading this year, sometime, like an Adrenaline, or the likes. Not trying to make a pulling truck or anything, just want a little more towing ooompfff..
