  1. The set up you are thinking of was used on vehicles. There was a liquid line that ran to a heat exchanger that was heated by the engine cooling system. By getting liquid to as close to the point of use there is a lot more vapor (power) available (required when it is cold out). Generally the liquid regulators are a pressure reducing valve and the vapor regs are a diaphragm type.   3. You know, I get REAL TIRED of hearing people spout off about how Obama is not qualified to be president on DIESEL FORUMS. Do you honestly believe the DNC would spend the amount of money they did to get him in office if they knew he could not legally hold office? C'mon, get real. I am not going to argue my political position with anyone here, but Bush was not that well liked by many and you didn't hear all the bitching about him.
  4. I have air bags in mine. They were on it when I got it. I had an old 10' slide in camper that I had on a Chevy 3500 dually. At 50 mph it was OK, not great but I didn't feel comfortable much faster. I put the same camper on my 2500, leveled the truck with the air bags and went to Branson, Mo. and back with the cruise set on 65 mph. The difference is like night and day.

  6. Mike, anything over 35 PSI with either the HY or the HX you are doing nothing but heating the air.
  7. You can get a new lift pump for $146 or so at O'Riellys or you can get one at Pure Diesel Power for $89
  8. K&N filters have been known to let a lot of dust get through. They are not recommended for our trucks. Something you can do for more power without getting to carried away is set your timing at 16*, grind your fuel plate to a #100, and set your starwheel to where you get just a slight amount of smoke on take off. That will put you in the vicinity of 300 or so rear wheel horse power. You do have gauges on the truck, don't you?
  9. My experience is with my truck and fiver. With the fiver and boat I am at 17,160#. The BIGGEST killer of fuel mileage while towing is frontal surface area. Weight does not seem to be much of a factor. The other thing is speed. At 70 MPH I get 10mpg at best, 65 MPH I get up to 12mpg, and have gotten 14+mpg at 60 MPH and under.
  10. That is what I have heard too. From what I understand, the internals of the pump are somewhat different compared to our trucks, but work the same and a lot of the pump mods are the same.

    I just looked at your board and the first thing I saw was the miss spelling of CUMMINS. That 'G' on the end will fire up more Cummins owners quicker than anything I can think of.

  15. That is a old picture. The 6.2 has not been made for how many years? The Ford one is a 7.3L, again not made for a while. If I recall the 6.0 rod is actually close to the same size as the 5.9 rod.

    Oh yea, plugging it in makes all the difference in the world. Last night it got down to -17*. When I have had mine plugged in it starts just about like summertime. I haven't driven mine much since the price of fuel went to about $3.50/gal.

    Just be glad you ain't here....... We got about 6" of the dam white stuff on Dec.2, and Tuesday Dec. 4 we got another 10". Some places saw as much as 17"!! It came in as a VERY narrow band off of Lake Superior known as "Lake Effect" snow. 5 miles either side of it there was just 3" and the band fizzled out about 15 miles inland away from the big lake. Looks like a white Christmas for us. The temp tonight is supposed to go down to -15* ' Tom

  20. I see some differences, but the mileage thing is the compound. I had a set of Cooper ATs and they wore real good,but sucked for traction. One good thing about Coopers is you are not :$: as much.

  22. Well, my understanding is that the BFGs have a slightly softer rubber compound for traction but they wear a little faster. The Coopers are a harder compound but wear like Iron. If you compare the ratings on the side of the tire, they don't match each other so they are not much good (to me). Right now I am running the same tires you are (off an '06) and just put my winter tires on. The ones I run in the winter are Firestone Steeltex. This will be the third season on them and they are still at about 80%.Tom

    Doc is absolutely correct. The 47RE tranny was used from 1995 to 2002? I think. The 4 is four speed and the 7 is the 7th "edition" of the tranny. I don't know what the "R" stands for, but the "E" is for electronic controls. If you had a 47RH, the difference is hydraulic controls.
