  1. Gas is down to 2.49 here and diesel is around 2.69, I love the savings but hate the idea of the Saudis trying to put our shale drillers out of biz. The v10 had been great so far, and I feel more confident with my wife driving a newer and more reliable vehicle. As far as spark plugs and oil leaks, all vehicles have issues and the 2nd gen Cummins have far more issues than I could have ever imagined- which is why we obviously all joined. I hope everyone here is doing well.
  2. We're at 2.64 gallon 87 and 2.79 diesel here. I hope they both continue to bottom out.
  3. I had 3rd gen polished wheels on mine. Lug nuts came with them and are absolutely identical. What is the problem you are having?
  4. I'm getting 9 drive back and forth 2.5 miles to work. Dash shows 14 mpg highway on 2 shorter trips. These 4.30 gears are supposed to actually help the mpg on the v10. So far the best part is sneaking home. Scared the hell out of my wife a week ago when I was working night shift and came home early. Try that with a 24v
  5. This thread really took off! I have met some really nice people selling off my parts and I've told them all about joining this forum. I schooled one kid on getting a fuel gauge asap! Amazing the research that I did while owning this truck that others don't bother to do. The mention of the extra noise suppression package above makes me wonder why noise insulation was never beefed up for the 24v to something more substantial. I read somewhere that the dB levels from the 24v came close or exceeded the recommended exposure levels for an 8 hour shift, I'll dig the article up if I can. On a side note, I recently got into the Fluid Film movement and undercoated my Super Duty today- If I would have known about it then, I would have did it to the Dodge too- the body was in such good shape on that truck. (Although the ruptured fuel line last month helped somewhat) I'm going to hang around here for a while- You never know what toys you'll acquire!
  6. My truck was louder than others. I had a friend tell me how much louder it was than his other buddies. Valve lash was set perfect. Most of the noise was from the pump side of the motor. I also don't miss the road wander. I had the opportunity to test drive a 2012 ram service truck with a 6.7 in it. It was a dog, and wandered just like my 02 after many parts and tweaks.
  7. Yes, mileage will be reduced but I can live with it as I don't live but a few miles from work. I really liked the dodge but it was really difficult to ride fo4 a few thousand miles listening to the vp 44 knock away. Newer quiet diesels were just a but too expensive yet for us, so we found something with similar power.
  8. I found a truck that I had been looking for, a super duty with a v10 and 4.30 gears. It's amazing to have a normal level conversation with the radio on at 70 mph.
  9. Guys, I sold my 2002. After our last trip with the camper to Florida, we decided that the truck was just too loud for us. She gave us great service and am sad to hear (haha) her go. Thanks again for your help, time and insight as I tried to make my vehicle the best it could be. I posted in the classifieds some parts I removed before the sale. I have mirrors, and edge ez, shift kit and filter, and a fuel filter for sale. If anyone is interested , let me know.

  11. Rburks, thanks for that- I still have a lot of this trip to go and a return trip home so keep looking here! Funny you mention the isolators- when the guy brought the line set, I noticed his had an extra on my doesn't - the 3 bar one closest to the vp on the set that broke. After closely inspecting my existing lines, I could see the faint marks where it originally was. He let me take that extra one and I am going to install it before we leave myrtle for florida. My truck had a vp installed before I bought it at a shop on WV, so I guess whoever put it on left it on the shop floor lol. NOW , I have to cross my fingers that the other 2 weren't affected.
  12. You have no idea how lucky I am. I try to treat everyone with respect and this was one of those times it came back to me. I blew the line right after fueling up so I thought it was bad fuel, I had my wife find a napa up ahead and it was 16 miles down i77. The gps took me to a dead end residential street instead of the napa- unreal. At that point I saw smoke and smelled diesel and knew something was wrong. As I pulled into the napa in Hillsville, VA, a guy came walking up and asked if I needed any tools, as he was inside when I called the clerk to check on a fuel filter. When we popped the hood we saw fuel on everything and I mean everything from the firewall to the rear axle. I cranked the truck and we didn't see anything but fuel mist. I removed the filter housing and cranked it again and we could see the fuel shooting straight back out of the number three line that was broken clean off. Unbelievable the truck didn't catch fire. At least it's rustproofed. I got a hold of a company called cobra diesel and he happened to have a non running parts truck behind his shop and he called his weekend mechanic to bring the lines down. I took the number 3 out put it on, cracked a few injector lines and we were in business - 4 hours total. Absolutely thankful for everyone that helped me today. Could have been a trip ender for sure!
  13. I'm on the way to Myrtle Beach from Pittsburgh found a mechanic he sold me a used line. Back on the road. No corrosion on my line just a clean break.
  14. Broke clean off about 1/4 inch behind the nut on the VP. I have the line off, was able to sneak it out

  17. I too have added tow mirrors. I got mine from amazon and they fit well and don't shake at all but I did have to modify the channel that the wires run through to keep them from being crushed. Mike, what's the site you mod for? I'd like to check it out.

  20. I'm pretty sure that the way the bearings get lubed is from the viscous coupling effect the turning hypoid gear has on the oil in the diff. The oil is thick and forms a rooster tail in the cover that pulls the oil up and into the tubes as a result. On the effects of packing them, time will tell, but I'd think he'd be ok. A forum member on a boat site I was a member of used to say, "any grease is better than no grease at all".
  21. I need to do the same stuff to my 47re. On the fluid, I'm never afraid to use cheap, SAE labeled stuff. Case in point, I had a 91 pontiac grand am when I was younger. I think we got it with 11k on it and sold it with almost 200k. We ran citgo gas station brand oil every 3k miles as my step dad is a bottler, and could take a case a month based on what made an uneven pallet. When the citgo wasn't being bottled, the same oil was put into chrysler/ mopar bottles- and very rarely that would be brought home too. Even more interesting, when they would bottle john deere oil, it was it's own line and could not be used by any other label brands because it carried no SAE certifications- it was essentially junk.
  22. I hear ya guys. Got the new box in today, NAPA warrantied it for me. I was impressed I did the whole job in a little under 2 hours. Let's see what happens next week! HA!
  23. That's what this truck has needed since I bought it, at least it seems that way. I have 118K on the rig and Last week, I checked out the vibration when slowing and found a seized lobe on the rear pinion u-joint (Napa 330 for 3 joint shaft). Only cost 20 bucks and about an hours time though. Today, come out of work to a puddle of PS fluid from a 8 month old box leaking out of the pinion seal- I've been running a box/steering brace for 4 of those months. Speakers quit the week before that, oh and the parking brake tension cam froze up on the drivers side last weekend and it wouldn't release. Windshield got smacked by a rock a few weeks before that (can't help that though). This truck is a real workout. Doesn't someones sig say that they are an indentured slave?? I get it now.
  24. Sure it is, you have a manual with an exhaust brake- these auto trucks are like runaway trains! Take out mopar mom's truck and try to stop with the e brake- You stick shift guys are spoiled with all of those choices HAHAHAHAA!
