  1. I tend to think they ride the clean air act narrative because they think it will get them votes and votes keep them in power so they can keep earning $$$. I think if we would just clean up money in politics we would see much more genuine concern of actual issues. As for what % I related to man made it is hard to say but it has to be some %. We should be concerned about a warming earth regardless of if it our fault, humans need a pretty specific environment to live. How much % change can we handle we will never know as the climate is a VERY complex thing. But I prefer life. Regardless of all that and good for earth vs not I will die on the hill that electric is a much better power source for movement than ice. It just bothers me in a technical sense that we have controlled explosions causing pistons to constantly accelerate and then decelerate to rotate the crank at 90* to power a shaft through a gearbox etc etc. ICE is just not efficient at converting fuel btus into work.
  2. I personally don't believe our government works efficiently enough to modify all data or even most of the data in a manner to "pull the wool over our eyes" on all these subjects. The people making the data are just workers like you or me. Read a few sources and if they agree then I tend to believe it. North Korea or China seem to have a handle on it, but when I look and listen to the people representing us I just see a bunch of chimpanzee's humping door knobs.
  3. https://www.forbes.com/sites/kenroberts/2022/02/24/russia-is-united-states-top-source-of-imported-gasoline/?sh=4146d9e81b18 Here is a good read on where we get out refined gas from. %20 of our fuel went away when we stopped buying Russian oil. Looks like I was incorrect on OPEC as they are. A smaller source. Regardless we need to find another source to supplement fuel. It's never good to have all our eggs in one basket.
  4. Money is always the reason. Right or left money is what drives policy.
  5. I agree on all parts of that Mike, those are not anti ev technology thoughts or feelings. The reason we have high fuel costs is we don't have enough refineries in the states anymore, so even though we output more barrels than we can use we don't actually have the ability to use what we take out of the ground. Fuel prices the last few years were too cheap to encourage USA Petro to build refineries. It was cheaper to import than to refine. Issue is now we have the Russian Ukraine war causing a huge lack in oil from Russia, supply and demand says fuel prices go up. We need to free ourselves of the OPEC control of American fuel prices. We also need to expand beyond relying only on gas and diesel for automotive use. Let's use electric where it makes sense and gas /diesel where it makes sense. Short trip use of ev makes sense.
  6. We are just a long for the ride on earth, the earth will be fine, us on the other hand I have no clue.
  7. https://www.statista.com/statistics/377006/nmber-of-us-highway-vehicle-fires/ Ok on average there are 174,000 vehicle fire per year in the USA alone. 1 Tesla that made the news is not really an argument when 475 other cars each day light up.
  8. Just as there are currently many bad use cases for EV there are also many many good use cases for EV technology. your example is a good one. there are downfalls with ICE technology. dinosaur bone fuel controlled mini contained explosions to generate torque within a narrow power band that wastes ~%80 of the possible BTU's out of the radiators.... doesn't sound super great when you say it that way. nothing is perfect, but there are good use cases for each. lets not ignore the good use cases to prop up our point of views.
  9. Super sad as nuclear is a great way to generate power considering the small waste vs watts generated. Newer plant designs claim to be able to use the waste in another generation cycle. Technology solves problems. Hell at some point it might be cost effective to shoot the **** into the sun.
  10. the grid is obviously an issue, why does no one want to fix it? answer that question before saying "ev's will break it" screw complaining about it, lets spend some tax money and fix it. Range is an issue, again why use an ev for that trip? you wouldn't use a civic to haul drywall. your argument for use case can be used when comparing an ICE car to an ICE truck. we need plans to deal with the recycling. lets get a plan going, this isn't about Biden is about the lack of future planning being done. EV's will fill a very useful spot of the car market. at this point they won't work in all situations. It's not possible right now != it isn't possible.
  11. Just because something doesn't fit your use case doesn't mean it doesn't fit the use case for a vast % of the population. It is insane to think that battery technology is not going to improve to the point of being a direct competitor of gas in the near future. If you want proof look at the average EV range from a decade ago vs now. in 10 years it has gone from a 2010 nissan leaf has a 73 mile range, here is 11 years later. this conversation happened 120 years ago when the car was being introduced, it happened 60 years ago when points got replaced, it happened 40 years ago when carbs were being replaced, and it is happening now again. Nothing new here technology advances. An ev will be the next car we buy, wife drives 40 miles a day, even on 120v outlet that range can be charged over night for less than $2 at my current .12 kwh cost. and yes I live in the country, no I will not be selling my diesel truck, it fits a different need I have. You wouldn't buy a honda civic to haul drywall, why would you buy an current EV to drive across the country? and no the EV is not a tool of the government to keep people from moving around, if that was the case we would not be seeing the advancements in battery technology we have seen in the last 10 years. as for the lady in the video, bad luck for her. I guess ICE engines never fail to do their job............. issues we currently have with EV tech 1. grid is not up to snuff 2. battery storage is not good enough 3. charge times are too long 4. mining cannot provide enough material 1. I sure as **** hope we fix our grid because it is in shambles, the TRILLIONS the government has subsidized the power companies needs to be put into the grid to bring it up to the increasing need of the country. even without EV's we are power hungry and the grid is failing to provide. fix the damn thing 2/3/4 are all solvable issues to say they are not is like saying we couldn't make it to the moon in the 60's point is get out of your bubble and try and see the perks that EV do provide, don't just point at faults. I have NUMEROUS friends in all walks of life with an EV as their DD that has been working perfectly for years and years. how much range did she need? you are assuming she needed a full charge. I might have missed it but I didn't hear anything, all I heard is I have 38 miles of range left which is not enough to get home. Don't cherry pick. Here is the mileage vs range of battery. what is the NORMAL amount of mileage a car gets used before it is no longer deemed useful? the trend line for the tesla shows pretty impressive range % even at 100,000 + km of use. Gasses need expensive replacements as well, what's the replacement cost of a new 6.7 cummins at a dealership? as for ev's burning down. don't act as if gas vehicles don't get set ablaze, I have SEEN numerous examples in my life, my aunts jeep burned to the ground in her driveway last year. I promise you there are many many many times more gas vehicle fires than ev. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plug-in_electric_vehicle_fire_incidents
  12. You can stack things on the data link without issue.
  13. It's a reasonable thought that the pac brake could be the cause, it looks like it connects to the data link ?
  14. Happy Thanksgiving to all. enjoy your down time!
  15. Do you have a pacbrake wiring diagram so we can see what flipping it on and off would do?
  16. From what I read the 6.6 uses this for cold start emissions only and the glow plugs for actual heating of the starting air. if it isn't enough I will prob weld another bung on the elbow and install a 2nd coil.
  17. When you say nothing but starter spinning I am assuming the starter is cranking the motor over but it is just not firing off?
  18. It appears to be pretty rare considering how many 6.7 cummins there are out there, but given how much our grid heater gets used I would rather just error on the side of caution.
  19. @Rivclark44 we are stuck between a rock and a hard place here. The cost to produce the switch means we need to bump the price of the kit to a level that we feel is too much to sell given the limited number of buyers. What would you honestly be willing to pay for it?
  20. I still have all of the emissions stuff so the gdp setup won't work for me.
  21. Well we have hit 60,000 miles in the 4th gen. Replaced the oil and fuel filters. I have on order from @dieselautopower the Banks big horn intake elbow / grid delete plate. This will prevent the grid heater bolt from falling into the motor if the bolt fails does fail. Not typically a fan on Banks due to $$$, but their design allows me to not need a tune and it looks well done so it is what it is. The OEM grid heater is replaced with an ford 7.3 / duramax 6.6 Intake air heater in the elbow. It draws less amps and work work as well as stock, but if it isn't good enough I will just weld in a 2nd heater and daisy chain. also need to get some shocks ordered to replace the stockers as I am sure they are getting worn. To date I have replaced nothing other than oil and filters and it has been a great truck.
  22. and there was no mods done since the last time they worked?
  23. I think I have decided on a blaze king or brolet brand. Gotta find dealers, but I like the blaze king long burn times.
  24. I have no issue with my hour meter and I have not heard of the issue until now.
  25. Sounds fishy to me. I'd ask your local dealer for info on the vin
