Thoughts on the 5 speed over the 6 speed gearbox? How about a 5 speed w/Gear Vendors?
When I did my auto to manual swap I looked at both the 5 and 6 speed transmission. The low and OD are basically the same, the difference is that the 6 speed has closer gear ratio's. The down fall from what I read is that the 6 speed is hard to get parts for, so I would say get the 5 speed with the GV, put the GV behind your 6 speed transmission and keep the 5 speed around. If you ever have problems with the 6 speed you will have the 5 speed to replace it with. Good luck which ever way you go.

Transfer Case
I am not sure, but the transfer case should be interchangable with other makes such as Fords and Chevys. The one thing is to make sure you get the correct one for your daughters transmission. Autos and sticks will use different input shafts, but since you have the old one that should not be that much of a concern. I would look at junk yards, you should be able to find a DHD along with all the hardware to install it. Good luck with it, Jon.

Funny video thread
I bet he did not get any for a long time after that. I know that I would never do anything like that if I where married, well, ok, maybe once or twice.

I might need to get another truck!
Glad to see that I am not the only one that does not like to pull over.

I might need to get another truck!
So I had to go to Texas last week to pick up two stock trailers. I took a round about way down there and it was a good trip except one thing. When I am driving I do not like to stop unless I have to, so it is usually only when the truck needs fuel. The problem comes when I have a drink and after about 250 miles I have to start going to the bathroom. In our work trucks a full tank of gas might last about 300 miles and that would be perfect, the problem is that my truck will go at least 500 miles or more. By the time I stop for fuel my eyeballs are yellow, my bladder is the size of a bowling ball and I can not bend over because something might burst.

What kind of mileage with Your RV
Not at the moment. I had my pcm go bad and replaced it, but at the time that my pcm went out I had my smarty programmed so I have to send it in and get it unlocked. I made a few calls back when it happened and got a run a round, but I do have to get it taken care of so I can start using my smarty again.

What kind of mileage with Your RV
Before the 75 HP injectors hauling my 16 ft. gooseneck, loaded or empty I would get about 12 mpg. Now with the injectors I am seeing around 16 mpg, plus the only reason to downshift on most hills is to keep my egt below 1200 degrees.

47re to NV4500 swap
It is a good swap, I did it to my 99 and would not want to go back. It took me a few days to do the swap, but it is not bad. The hole for the clutch master cylinder is already cut in the firewall and the pedals go in way easy. Good luck with the swap and I hope that you enjoy it as much as I do mine.

Better Filtering
I have installed an aftermarket filter/water seperator when I installed a Raptor 100. I keep the stock filter, it not only has a fuel heater, has 'WIF' warning light, but also adds extra filtration. I put my on the drivers side inner frame rail just behind my transfer case. It was a tight fit with the pump and dual filters, but I made it work somehow. I got the base while doing scrap metal, but they are CarQuest filters, so you should be able to locate them there or at another parts store. My filters are just above the skid plate for the transfer case so the are somewhat protected, I could make another skid plate, but I do not do very much off roading with my truck so I feel safe with the way it is. I am sure that if you go with one of the other options that you will be happy with it, just take your time with the placement of them and you should have no problems. Good luck.

Can we talk, or is it allowed to post about Obama Care?... couple Questions.....
Don't get me wrong, I have many friends that are not white. So are not here legally, what to do, I do not know, they call America home, but they are not citizens. I do not want to see them suffer because they are not legal, but I only make about $22,000 a year but do not qualify for any government aid because I am single, have no dependents and am white. If I do have to pay more in taxes for the government health care, it will not be very much as I do not make a whole lot to begin with, so I do not think that it will effect me a whole lot, what I do not want is some one telling me what I can an can not do, eat, drink or anything else. Today I heard on the radio that there is a professor that wants to ban sugar be cause he believes it is bad for us. If that happens, what else will they ban??? We are a carbon base life form, but yet the government and some others want to tax carbon output, that means that we can be taxed for breathing, as we exhale CO2, which is carbondioxide. Making everyone poorer I do not think is the answer also. It does not give anyone the incentive to try and execel. Would Bill Gates have do what he did if he know that he would not be compensated for taking the risk that he did? I think not, but he knew that if he succeeded he would be compensated, maybe not as well as he was, but he had incentive to take the risk. I agree, we need to do something different, but everything that I have heard about the affordable health care act is not what we need. I do not want to see people suffer, but if we keep going down the road that we are going down we will not be able to help any one including ourselves. People need to take responsibility for themselves, not turn to the government to take care of them. When I was layed off work, I started collecting scrap metal and taking it in, it did not pay a lot, it was hard work at times, but I did not go to the government and say I deserve a hand out because I worked hard and it was not my fault that I am not working now. Will that work for everyone, no, but if you find something that you can do til you find a decent paying job then do it, don't think that the government should take care of you. I work hard for a living, I don't think that makes me entitled to anything but my pay check. I am happy doing what I do for a living, I know that I am not going to get rich working on a ranch, I do not expect that, but I can pay for the things that I need and still have money to spend on my truck. I have to live within my budget, why can the politicians not do that? If it means that some social programs are cut back, then that may be the cost. I hear too many stories of someone in the grocery store using food stamps to buy food, then loading the bags into an exspensive suv, does that make sense? Some people do need help, but a hand out is not helping them, now we have some one that expects a hand out all the time, we need to give them a hand up, it is harder to do, but in the long run I think it is the better thing to do. I once heard 'that if you give someone a fish, you have to feed that person the rest of their life, but if you teach them how to fish then you have to buy them a boat, a truck to pull the boat, a rod and reel and bait!'

Can we talk, or is it allowed to post about Obama Care?... couple Questions.....
"its ok to go to war if it means we are better off and secure our future" Nobody wants war, but sometimes there is no other choice. How do you deal with a bull? If you give into them they just take more, how do you deal with someone that wants to kill you and do not care if they die themselves? You have to stop them before they can do you or your loved ones harm."its not ok to spend money on illegals who cross our borders and the lazy people riding the system" I would rather spend money on people who are here legally that need it. Don't get me wrong, we should help those that need help, but where do we stop? Do we all go poor to help everyone? There are a lot of people that want something for nothing, I work six days a week, up to 16 hours sometimes, I do not expect someone to pay for things that I want. If I can not afford it, then I will have to wait to get it. It is not the governments job to make sure that I have health care, it is not the governments job to make sure that I eat healthy, it is not the governments job to make sure that I get enough excersize every day. People have to take respondsibility for their lives, not hand it over to the government. Don't get me wrong - I work hard and pay taxes. I just have a different thought process. Id quite easily tomorrow give up half my net worth if it meant more people live a balanced life. You can do this, donate to a charitable orginization, you do not need the government to take it from you. In fact I have heard that you can, if you so desire, give money to the government above what you pay in taxes. If you feel that the government can do things better than you. I do not think that way, I would rather donate to my church and let them help the poor, elderly and those in need. I do not know a lot about the health care bill, so I do not know if it is good or bad, but I think that if it is the government taking control of my health care, then the out come will not be good. From what I understand the government can now tell me how to eat healthy so that my health will be better and I do not have to visit the doctors office near as much. In the late 80's I was in the Navy. During my time in the service, we where given a 2% pay raise for cost of living increase, the same year politicians gave themselves a 50% pay raise, I guess it is nice when you can say how much pay to give yourself. We, the People, need to change how things are done. It seems that politicians, and not all of them, but some of them, are out for themselves. I wish I knew how to change things, it would be great to live in a world where people are not greedy, bullies or need help with their life, but it is not that way and life is not fair. I have seen several countries try to make a utopia, but in the end it is not substainable and the people at the top get greedy and do what every it takes to keep their power. If you think that the government is any better at purchasing things like replacement hips, they put bids out and go with the lowest bid, hello China parts. I broke my leg a while back and the doctor said that he would do his best to get me back, but it was a pretty bad break. I am doing real well now, but if it ended up needing my leg cut off I hope that I would not blame the doctor, medicine is not an exact science as far as I know. I think that tort reform is something that needs to happen, doctors do make mistakes, it is tragic when they do but I am willing to bet they are not intentional! I agree with dobienut that the wrong people make the wrong pay. A basket ball player makes millions while a teacher teaching your children makes only thousands, a singer makes bank while the people that feed you can bearly survive. Why is it that an actor that produces nothing can make 20 million a movie, while a person that produces a crop that ensures that you do not go hungry has to live on food stamps? People have their priorities wrong, I just wish that I knew how to fix it. Over all I would like a smaller government, most people respect the rules and are not out only for themselves. The few that are greedy, are the ones that get the most attention.

DAP 75 hp nozzles
The said that they pop tested them and they are good to go. So far they are working wonderfully, no problems with power at all. I have a boost elbow and a boost fooler, so I am not sure what is the exact problem with my boost, I have the hx turbo so I should be able to get plenty of boost. I will have to play with the elbow some, I think right now I have the screw all the way in so I might have to screw it out, it will be a while before I drive it again so I will play with it when I drive it. I do like the power and the extra mileage I am see so far. I will have to drive it some empty to see what improvements I am getting there, I am pretty good about being easy on the right pedal so that helps the fuel mileage. I will report back when I find out how my mileage is when empty but I think it might be around 24 mpg or so. Thanks for the tips, Jonathan.

Tranny swap?
The ranch that I work on bought a Ford F-550 with an automatic. They had to have it rebuilt once, granted it was only a stock rebuild, but it did not last too long. The next time the boss had a six speed installed. I am not trying to sway you to a manual, but after putting in a manual in the truck it pulls way better. I am sure that you can get a great auto for your truck, cajflynn runs an auto and pulls heavy loads all the time, so you know they must be good, I guess that I just like a manual. Which every way you go, I hope that it works for you. Just do research, this site is great for that, and find what is best for your application.

This is how I spent my Sunday
Reminds me of my younger days on a volunteer fire department. Very enjoyable times, I wish sometimes I could go back.

Tranny swap?
I am sure that other will have some suggestions, but the one thing that I know you will need to upgrade is the clutch. I still have a stock clutch, even though I have 75 hp injectors, but I try and be as easy as possible so as that I do not slip the clutch. At 500 hp you will need a better clutch than stock. I am not sure about the guts, maybe a better input shaft, but as I said there are others that will have a better idea about the inards of the trans. Good luck if you do decide to do this mod, I would do it again in a heart beat if I got another auto that I liked.

Tranny swap?
So I swapped in a 5 speed in my 99, I did a lot of research and purchased most of the parts before I started. It is very straight forward, the cabs for the auto and manual are the same, so the pedals just slide in, there is a hole for the clutch master cylinder, the only thing I had to do is cut a hole in the floor for the shifter. I would recommend a 5 speed, from what I have read the 6 speed is hard to find parts for and is no longer being made, also low and high gears are almost the same ratio, only that the ratios are closer in the 6 speed. I picked up about 6 mpg with manual, but more importantly the reliability of the manual. There where several people that suggested selling my truck and just buying a manual, but I like my truck I just did not like the automatic. The only issue I have is my abs light is on, but I can live with that, I have read that others that have done the swap had no issues while other have had pcm issues. I would say go for it, if you can get a donor vehicle of the same year would be best, but I found parts on ebay, local junk yards and on forums like this. Do some research and if you are like me you will find that it is not that hard and I think that it was well worth it.

Ebay turbos and gauge sets???
I bought the three pod glowshift set, pyro, fuel pressure and boost. I have liked them so far, it was the cheapest way to go and it got me a set of gauges quick. I am not sure if the fuel pressure sending unit is acting up or if the fuel pump drops pressure as much as my gauge says when I get on it. I have had them for about two year and still like them, I am sure the other gauges would work better for a longer time, but as I said money is tight and I was able to get the gauge cluster sooner rather than having to save up and wait longer to get the gauges. I do like that I can change color on them, at night it is nice to have the red face so it does not shine a brighter light in my eyes.

rv 275s
When I did my valves and then the injectors, I went in on the side, so I did not have the latch to deal with. It might be an advantage being 6'2", but I still had a stool to stand on. Glad to hear that all is well, I just put some 75 hp in my truck and it has great power, real happy with the improvement and the better fuel mileage.

DAP 75 hp nozzles
Took a few day trip to Oregon. WOW, the injectors are very nice. Pulling most hills, did not even have to down shift. Weighting in at just over 15,000 to 17,000, I am very happy with the mods thus far. The only concern that I have is that the fuel pressure would really drop off at higher RPM's, not always, but sometimes. It would drop down to around 10psi, at which time I would get out of the throttle. I did hit 30 psi on the turbo two or three times, but I was not able to hold it at anything above 20 psi. My got around 15 mpg, averaging 60 mph. There is still some work to do, but so far I am liking the injectors:thumbup2:. Once I get the fueling problem solved, I think that I will be able to keep the turbo a little cooler, I was able to keep it just below 1200* on steep grades, only having to down shift on three of the hills. My stock clutch did not slip at all, but I was pretty easy on it knowing that that is the weak point right now. Can't wait to see what the mileage is empty, I was getting 22 so I hope to be close to 25 mpg. I am very happy the injectors, inexpensive but a lot of bang for the buck!

LIKE EM. So far so good. The big test will be this weekend, taking a 16 ft gooseneck on a 1500 mile trek, so that should be a test for my handy work!!!

DAP 75 hp nozzles
Just got my injectors back from the shop this evening . Had time to install them, put the truck back together, bleed the lines and start the truck. I have not taken it for a test drive yet as it is late and I have to be up early in the morning. I hope to take it out tomorrow, not sure how much of a difference I will notice empty, but I will see. Having the shop do the work only set me back $70. So for $220 total, I should gain at least 60 hp to the wheels . The shop did take longer than I had expected, but as I have said before my truck will sit for weeks on end without moving, so it was not a big deal. I will need to get my boost elbow set for around 30 psi and I already have a boost fooler installed, so I should be good to go . Just looked at my turbo and it is a hx-35, so that is good news, now I just hope that I am done with the mods for a while, I know I will find something else to put on the truck thought. I will post how much of a difference I notice, how well it tows with the extra power and what kind of mpg gains I see.

Raptor FRRP and 1/2" line
Yes, I will keep an eye on that. It is a tight spot, maybe I will look into running it out the way you described.
