Head gasket replacement
That's not how I read it, you're re checking torque, not re-torquing. The gasket compresses as you torque from the center out, you're just making sure every bolt IS at 77 ft lbs prior to step 4 turning each bolt 90*. Why would you release torque AFTER you've compressed the gasket?

Head gasket replacement
If the threads are clean, the tap should also chase down the threads, right? I did it on my block because it sat for so long.

Head gasket replacement
How I understood the recheck, was just to make sure as gasket was crushed during step 2 (77 ft lbs) that all bolts still were at 77 ft lbs. no sense in backing off bolts to re-torque IMO.

Head gasket replacement
I just checked the tap I used against head bolts 12mmx1.5

DYI- what do you do yourself vs have done?
I didn't do a base coat/clear coat , but enamel.

Head gasket replacement
You'll know if you stretch a bolt while torquing them down, I think I used my head bolts 3 or 4 times, never did have a head bolt stretch, but did have a main cap bolt stretch, felt it right away.

I pretty much went through my 01 pulled body off and started at the back end of frame and worked forward, kinda got burned out and took a break, just need to primer/paint hood and OTB fenders. I think panels and paint looks worse after I've refinished them.

I'm not bad at turning a wrench, I pay a lot of attention to details, wish I was more versed in body work/paint.

Gummed up VP44
Thanks for all the advice and comments, but this pump setting for 8 yrs is just a core,(went through the Blue Chip check list) bought a REMAN from DIESEL SPECIALTIES, OMAHA Ne, which is where I purchased the last one, that I know has 400-500K on it $1100 plus the Government money. Have to wait for the Cummins Apex Red to dry before I install it.

BHAF filters
Think I'm going with Donaldson Part #B085011 Just because it looks like it will fit inside my old Bullydog heat shield.

BHAF filters
Thx, Mike, getting the Donaldson ,hoping this might it in my old Bullydog RFI, if not I guess my iron guy will get that bullydog sheet metal. I guess they no longer care about 2nd Gen Trucks anyway. P.S agree on 2nd and organic pain relief, was using it for severe ankle arthritis.

BHAF filters
Wanting to get away from oil filters, looking at Donaldson #B105006, since there is a distributor close to me, I think they also carry Balwin Filters, just don't have the # in front of me. Any opinions?

Searching for this emblem
I started Selling Dodge Trucks/Cars in '95 Still had some 1st gen diesel trucks on the lot (160hp), I wanted to sell Dodge because of the 2nd Gen body style, with the fenders like the older trucks, which sadly they are working back to a square hood.

Gummed up VP44
Been there, done that, I have a raptor 150 fuel pump, plenty of pressure to the VP. I will try again to make sure I've got the air out of the lines.
-
Gummed up VP44
Pump sat for 8 yrs, thought I drained most of the fuel out, but I'm not getting good pressure through some of the lines, I believe I've got all the air out.

Gummed up VP44
You put this back together and on your truck? I'm thinking the plungers are stuck. It will be off the truck.

Gummed up VP44
So once it cleaned, can't it be flushed with diesel? I'm just trying to un-stick what is stuck, I assume it's a valve or the the plungers on the cam that preventing the pressure to the lines.

Gummed up VP44
ATF dissolve diesel gum?

Gummed up VP44
Tried to start truck last week,(no codes) not getting enough fuel pressure through to some lines, I talked to local Bosch shop, told me pump is probably gummed up from setting for 8 yrs, I thought I drained most of the fuel out, but I'm sure some residual fuel remained. Anyway thinking of a way to un-gum it, thought of pulling pump and running brakecleen (suggestion from Bosch shop) through it while hand turning the pump. Welcome any suggestions, I already know if I can't get this cleaned I'll have to fork out the 1K for a reman pump.

Question regarding 2000-2002 original steel dually wheels. Paint or powder coat?
Found on E-Bay after a lot of looking https://www.ebay.com/itm/nut-covers-5-15-16-standard-style-flange-chrome-steel-1-3-8-tall-Peterbilt/202020372152?hash=item2f095a3eb8:g:6bUAAOSwdGpZkM5M:rk:9:pf:0 Wish I could just find top hats to cover the axles, I like the look of the lug nut covers, back to researching.

Question regarding 2000-2002 original steel dually wheels. Paint or powder coat?
It was a 2 stage powder coat , not sure of the code# Where you buy those Center caps? LMC? I always thought the front bearings were sealed so caps are just for looks.

Question regarding 2000-2002 original steel dually wheels. Paint or powder coat?
I'm sure they were just paint, I just had my 7 wheels Powered coated in Gunmetal gray, found some 7/8" lug covers on E-bay since I've lost 3 of the 4 center wheel caps

Gearing questions
True but Marcus2000Monster was replacing (from my understanding)a complete Differential from 4.10 to 3.54, that was supposed a swap, so it was out of the truck, my comment was why open differential to count teeth vs rotating pinion. Did you replace the whole diff? or just the ring/pinion?
