Dealership Computer Flash
Groundhog,Yes it is positively worth it! In my case, I had the original factory codes. Seems like to me they bumped up the HP & Torque a little. My Transmission even shifts smoother. I had the 4th gear hunt pretty bad in my automatic, gone & now forgotten. They went through my computers & also did a check on my fuel system. I was out the door for a little over 130 bucks w/ tax. On my truck, there was a recall for a reflash that was never done. Michael found that for me.Get 'er done,Dave :thumbsup

Frantz oil filter
Hey DW,Looks easy enough. & seems like you've had no problems with leaks. I may have to mount mine in the traditional way because someone made a bracket above my alt. Looks like it may have been for another alt. Anyway, the ears on the Frantz line up just right & the hood still has clearance to close. Come to think of it,it may drain with the engine off using the AMS in the oil cap because its placement, the canister, would be so high. Life is all about options. All those fittings are availale from Franz. I never looked for those like at my local NAPA store or hardware store. Thanks for taking the time to post that pic for me,Dave :D

Frantz oil filter
Thanks cummins2k for putting that link up for me. :smart I was looking on the site map but did not see the one you posted. I new it was on here somewhere. It is a Frantz that was made in Stockton, California, so it says anyway. The fitting for the oil cap, where do I get one of those? I saw one on someones site a few months back but now I can't find it. The fitting that come off the stock filter housing, what size is that please? It had to be a Frantz, if it's good enough for you guys it's good enough for me. :thumbsup Thanks,Dave

Frantz oil filter
Hi guys,Because of Michael's recommendation I went ahead & purchased a used canister, bracket & filter from Ebay. I need some info on what fittings to buy from the Frantz site. Michael, you used to have a picture of the return line going through the oil cap. I think I'd like to use the same. Any problems with that for you? What do I need for that? Also, I read on one of your postings that you used an outlet from the factory filter mount, what do I need for that?Is it less messy to change the filter with the lines on the top. Is that why you did it that way? I only have about 1,500 miles on this oil, I think I'm going just install it when I get my parts together. I know Frants has an install kit but I won't be needing all those fittings. Thanks,Dave

Best Way to Change Brake Fluid
Hey Hammer, Thanks for posting that part link. That's a good resource to have. My LF fender is getting rust from the inside. You know those pesky tell-tale bubbles. My truck is fine except that fender. The truck was Ziebarted when new, maybe they missed that inside fender. Or maybe at some point it was replaced & not undercoated like the rest of the truck is! Trans problems
Yep,Mine did the same thing, I first did Michael's 4th gear hunt fix. Worked great for almost a 1/2 a year or so. When it came back, I had to take it to the dealer & they reflaswhed all my onboard computers, mine had the original factory settings. Works great now, even has way more power than before while it was running fine. I can smoke my dually tires now if I want on a stock truck. The Chrysler Dodge dealer charged me $132 & change for a full fuel system check, saftey check,2 test drives & to reflash the computers.M73M did point out that there was a factory service bulletin on this problem & sent me the link for the fix!Dave

Best Way to Change Brake Fluid
Keydl,When you change the master cyl., do you just suck out all the fluid with a pump of some kind? Maybe sort of like a kitchen baster? Then wipe out the junk in the bottom of the res. as moch as possible?Dave

Did the 4th gear hunt fix..what now?
Went from my house to Bobcaygeon, Ontario & back to Buffalo NY. on one Tank of D2. At least 600 miles & some change. Loaded down some. Jet Ski's, all our gear, momma & two big German Shepard dogs. The computer updates did the trick. Power to spare. Never slowed once on any hills lots fairly steep in N Pa. & Ontario.I did get all my ball joints on before I left. Not that easy of a job. Couldn't get one of the lower arm bolts out. I broke 3 21mmsockets & three Craftsman rachets, one was a breaker bar. I'll try the Sears return policy. A friend of mine was going to take them to work & press them for me but when I called the dealer for some info, he told me to rent a "C" clamp press. Cost me nothing at Advance auto. She's mostly tight, steering is much better. Good thing, needed it to be on the Money driving in Toronto traffic. Still have one knock on the right under the seat. Breaking or a hard right turn while going slow. Any clues as what to check? Seems I may need to replace something in steering wheel. Don't know about that w/ the air bag & all! OK for now!Looks like my truck bed on the pass side is sticking out & is below the body line. Maybe a crushed bushing or no bushing at all.Have to find where it mounts. Maybe if I line the bed up better the knock will be out of there.?Hope you are all having a great summer!

Did the 4th gear hunt fix..what now?
Yea, I hear ya! My wife & I were figuring out how we were going to pay for it before I went. My wife had me go a day early so they could get the parts ordered so they could get here so the vehicle wouldn't delay our vacation plans. When the mechanic was running the reflashes, he looked down to see a shiny factory FP. He asked me where I got It, I said Cummins dealer. Maybe you Michael told me to pick one up at a Cummins dealer while on the CumminsForum site. Thanks! Great advice the Mopar dealer couldn't get original design one for years, went to the intank fix. I was asking him about my VP44, I read that they only last 200,000 mile, w/ 177,000 I figured I was running close to borrowed time. He said actually that the VP44 is pretty much indestructable unless you run it out of fuel, like the lift pump going out. Keep it lubricated w/ M73M's 2 stoke oil, nother additive, biodiesel, it should last the life of the truck. :thumbsup A shot of optimism couldn't hurt! The dealer also warned me of a drivers side top ball joint getting ready to fall off. I told him that my Moog ball joints got here on Monday. Got em' from Jeg's a bass player freind of mine that is a dealer to Jeg's got me a gentlemen's deal. Half off catalog price, sweet! I will start getting them on tonight after I get more hay. Can't wait till I pull a trailer today! Now that I'm getting my truck problems solved, maybe now I can build that biodiesel processor this summer. Have most of the parts, found a local source for methanol, & lye, look out getting my ducks lined up in a row for once. :wow Keep the fuel cool, Dave

Did the 4th gear hunt fix..what now?
Wow! I have a new truck on my hands! I was totally expecting to have the dealer to put on a new APPS & a IP. All they did was updated all my computers, Three they said, mine had original factory data. I can't believe the difference. Dead pedal is gone, 4th gear hunt is gone. It always started great at any temp so no problem there. Oh when he took it for a test drive he was able to get the trans to shift into 4th gear by 10MPH. I wasn't able to do that, but that's what he said.Anther thing they found was that who ever redid my trans, installed the cable way too tight. It was bumping out before it hit the gov. This truck is wonderful w/ a stock intake & exhaust. It's like I put 'em on already. Now I can concertrate on making my biodiesel processor this summer I hope. BTW, my ball joints finally came, Moog, from Jeg's. A bass player friend of mine hooked me up w/ a sweet gentlemen's deal. Half off from the catolog price. :thumbsup Those will be on after I get more hay today I will start. Mechanic said I was about ready to lose the left top drivers side.\Life is good,Dave
