  1. I couldn't say as I didn't have one at home, I'm on this furlough deal so can't go into work under any circumstances and while I do have my work van at home it is unable to carry all my tools and stay under 3500kg gross, I can say for sure a 1 1/16th double hex doesn't fit, 27mm is 0.1 of a mm less than 1 1/16th so we'll call that good on 6 sided I posted it because 1 1/16th double hex is a common size for head bolts and I have several, I cannot for the life of me see why SMP made the thing with the peaks milled off
  2. Quite strange really, if the peaks weren't milled off a 1 1/6th semi deep or deep socket would fit which is a much more common size even here
  3. Map sensor arrived from Rockauto last week, I got around to fitting it yesterday (not able to drive much here in the UK due to Lockdown) I got the SMP map sensor and I don't see why but for the record it's a very strange size, the double hex peaks are milled off so while a 1,1/16th open end spanner is a perfect fit across the flats a 1,1/6th socket either single or double hex does not grip it. 1,1/16th is 26.99mm BUT 27mm double hex does not grip it, the only socket that will grip it is 27mm single hex, this grips the SMP map on the flats and not the peaks which just aren't there. I have every socket size known to man including BSW and BSF and I checked every one I have eventually finding a 27mm single hex 1" drive socket that I reduced down to 1/2" drive. This isn't the flat plug version as my truck is 98.5 so this is only relevant to the odd shaped plug map not the flat plug map Cleared the code and all is good
  4. I have a ford fuse/relay box hooked to the PDC charge fuse which is no longer used, with an auto it sits nice below the cup holder, not a good place with a manual though
  5. in low range ?? surely not going to be in 1st is it ?
  6. Just ordered the SMP from rockauto, should have it by next tuesday/wednesday
  7. ...... try the grade or similar in 3rd, OD turned off and see what happens, then decide if it would be better to hang onto LU a little longer with a switch
  8. Would you be able to do the same climb in 3rd low locked , if you are using 4th LOW then locking out the OD on that climb will mean it would be in 3rd and would tend to be more in Lockup 3rd than torque convertor 3rd. Also consider doing the mystery switch which will keep the torque convertor locked once the pcm has locked it so it wouldn't come out of LU until you flick the switch back, this as said above with a standard valve body will only work in 3rd and 4th and NOT second, but if you are using 4th Low then I'd say you wouldn't need it locked in second. I have just done a switch and what a difference that makes, I was having problems with our (UK) speed limits and the truck always wanting to be in convertor rather than LU at the respective limits, problem now sorted. Take a look in the article section for @IBMobile LU switch, I didn't wire it quite like that and just used a switch and relay so I control when it comes out of LU. My trans as far as I know is standard so while a modified VB would be nice AND LU in 2nd would be nice too I don't want to trash my trans just now, and I realise you could just mod 2nd gear but I'm going to hold off touching it until I can afford a real trans to go with it
  9. I have a code just set for the first time yesterday sure yesterday it was PO238 map sensor voltage high, I cleared this yesterday to see what would happen today Turned ignition on today and PO237 map sensor voltage low set, no PO238 Done the diagnostics for the 237 code and everything checks out except map voltage is 0.5v ignition on not running or running, it does increase to around 1v to 1.6v if stalled in gear I got 5.2v on orange which tells me the 5v supply is good, no other sensor codes set no short to earth on the other 2 wires or each other I haven't disconnected the ecm plugs and checked continuity of these two Fitted a quad about 2 to 3 months ago but I can't see that causing the problem, been working fine and still is I'm going to order a Map sensor and was wondering if anyone has used a STANDARD MOTOR PRODUCTS AS334 this is £59.85 from Rockauto or am I better ordering a Cummins part ?
  10. This is what I've been doing for our 30mph limit but the PCM locks in 3rd at a little over 30mph so I have to drive over the limit to get it to lock, once locked and switched I'm ok but I may try the jumper and if I read it right it will lock on the switch no matter what, I could then lock at high 20's and in 4th just around 40
  11. I also used a mini ISO and OHMS where around 75 give or take on 3 I checked, I decided to try it as I have a scanner to turn off any codes so no harm done if a code was set and I figured whatever the 30ohm resistor was there to mimic it just might have been a coil , it hasn't set a code yet and I have a million 30 omh resistors now..... can't buy just one or 5 or something normal but they were only £2.00 posted, I can say with hand on heart where they were made Also a relay was rather easy to do as I have an AUX fusebox from a Ford car fed from the now unused large fuse at the PDC it sits just below the cup holder, it's modular and I just snapped in the ISO relay holder and job done, it has the capacity for maybe 20 relays both ISO and normal and maybe 70 fuses in 3 seperate modules which all snap into the mounting bracket. I did contemplate using a varible resistance 5 position switch that I had that I originally used to control a set of rad fans on a 71 roadrunner but after measuring all 5 positions the ISO was in the middle so used that instead first and up to now no code so all good, I've only done a few miles in the truck where I was able to use the lockup switch due to the whole country being in lockdown so the food supermarket is only 3 miles away, I may well try the trans relay jumper as the PCM locks at just over 30mph and in 4th at about 45 to 48 ish I think, these are both a little high for our speed limits which are 30mph in built up areas, the next is 40mph then 50, 60 and 70 so its not quite right for the 30 and 40 limits
  12. I did the switch last week, just used a switch and a relay to keep it on once it's locked, I also used the actuation coil on another relay in place of the 30 ohm resistor, the resistance on the relay coil is higher than 30 ohm but up to now it hasn't set a code but I now have resistors if needed, all in all it works just fine, didn't really want it unlocking on braking so thats why I just used one switch. I have read posts where a relay is jumpered and then the switch will lock whenever, this would suit me better but I have a standard torque and trans so wouldn't suit the trans I doubt
  13. I used to work for what is probably the best known construction machinery manufacturers on the planet, I was in major repair straight off the backhoe production line, problem was the whole deal was managed by people from the car industry and not the construction industry so decals were spot on, paint was car like, machine was rubbish, they sent 5 of us from the UK to Waco to fit 130 torque convertors and trans pumps to machines that had been shipped knowingly leaking, was there for a month putting that right, did over 800 all told before the problem was fixed, they also decided to buy steering obital valves from a "new" supplier... read chinese, 50% turned left on their own all of a sudden with no warning, over 2000 needed to be changed out
  14. The scanner you have used, is it able to see live data ?? If so can it "see" the ECU and PCM ? and whats happening, I would start from the beginning and if you can't find any information on the symptoms focus on the codes, You did as mentioned above get to step 5 in a test, what test was this , and did you finish the test, I remember you not having a certain wire or colour in a seperate thread ?? If you didn't finish the test I would suggest you go back to it and check it out ? sorry I can't remember what test you were doing. I see above you have checked wiring, have you had the plugs off of the PCM and ECU and checked for corrosion and bent/broken pins or wiring at the plugs, if not do this but disconnect both batteries first, there is a cover on the back of each plug, carefully unwrap the tape that holds the wiring secure to the cover, carefully prise the cover off and make sure all wires are connected to their pins, give each wire a light pull, if you have a wiring diagram pay particular attention to CCD (bus) wiring as you have a CCD communication problem, also if you do have a wiring diagram and a multimeter check ohms resistance on the CCD wiring. You could well have a PCM or ECU or Inj pump fault but it could also be wiring as I see you have a stored P1698 no CCD messages from TCM. One last question.... do you know anyone with a newish Snap On diagnostic box as they will read live data
  15. I've added a fuse on the blue wire, I'm curious as to what you think about adding a fuse to the green wire which is pin 10,conn 2 at pcm. My diagram says this is pos and blue pin 25 conn 3 is earth, I'm thinking if there was a short on the green there would be some amps through pcm and did I read somewhere on here pcm fuse is 20 amp so pcm would be at 20 amp before fuse blows right ????
  16. I've finally got around to do the alternator protection fuse, well I checked wiring diagrams just to be sure on which wire and which PCM pin, it's ingrained in me to check, check and check again before snipping wires. Anyway I have a question, is there any reason the green (this is pin 10 conn 2) isn't on the list to fuse protect, my wiring diagram (2001 Dodge FSM) says Blue is neg and Green is pos of the alt field windings, I'd have thought it would be safer to fuse both. Lets say the FSM I have is right and I have no reason to think not (paper BTW) and the green is pos and it shorts to earth somewhere in the harness which BTW is 5ft longer than it needs to be or a short in the alternator then as far as I see it the pcm may well have to pass a fair amount of amps before a wire burns through or other fuses blow ?? OR am I talking like an idiot.....
  17. Whats reported there is rubbish there are deaths on that vid thats not in the western world, malaria does not happen in the Uk or I'm sure the US Aids does not affect the UK much now as its pretty much under control here Cancer in the uk does not kill nearly 700 people per day and doubling every 3 to 4 days watch the news regarding Italy and Spain when they get over the peak we as in the uk might be a week or 2 behind, the USA might be another 2 weeks after. The UK and Europe has a nationalized health care system thank god, this looks after the richest down to a homeless person, the UK government is way behind but they are constructing field hospitals and morgues faster than you can cook a pizza, 4000 bed hospital and a 1500 slot morgue just 20 miles away all done in a week, one of 10 around our small island as in England thats not including Wales, Scotland or NI, our Gov would not do that for any reason, and for the record our gov in the uk is a very hands off as in for business not socialist..... not sure which of yours that is equal too we are not too different to Spain and Italy as the uk has a sizeable older population, I'm not too far from that myself, the elderly is where it hits hardest, we can all pin medals on our chest for being the "it wont get me" hero... you know what it just might and while its at it it just might get someone you love. I've worked hard for 41 years and I'm not too far from saying enough is enough...... this aint getting me
  18. Here in the UK they are saying both here and USA are on the same path if not steeper than China, Italy and Spain Also saying it can live on surfaces for 72 hrs to the point where it's being urged to keep tissue and stuff like that outside of our waste bins for 72hrs to protect waste workers. I finished volantarily wednesday night after telling the co I work for the risk isn't worth it, I'm now home no pay, rather be alive and skint than dead but rich, way to many people here dying, not as many numbers as the US but amount of population versus deaths is about the same, difference is we haven't got the vast spaces between cities
  19. Before I fitted a FP gauge I had a sort of engine off moment which would happen at very light throttle accelerating, like a very long cough, fitted a FP gauge and while it was no where near as low as yours it was low, so I did some quick work to remove the PO rubbish which was the smallest inline filter you could possibly get, I had fitted Cat filters and filter head prior to this , this removed the cough, then fitted a FP gauge, once I could see what was going on mechanical pump ordered straight away from DAP, FP now is just fine and tops out at well over 20 psi, idle is 12 to 14 due to the cat filters I think being 2 micron.... and I removed another electrical item from my truck.... win win Your fuel pressure is way too low BTW my truck had a Fass block mounted stock replacement..... and the basket in the tank was spotless so no excuse there
  20. All good advice above Run through the series of checks for vp again but use pin numbers not wire colours, these checks should test vp relay which can cause this code As already said loosen fuel inlet at VP44 and flick the starter and see if you have fuel up to vp, you might have to do this a fair few times if you've changed fuel filter and its not bled properly. You may then need to loosen injector pipes at cylinder head to bleed these to get it to start. If no fuel at vp in tank pump could be bad ( needs to be binned anyway as even if vp is ok it wont be for long using the intank) or you could have a bad relay or bad harness. Check if pump is running first, if not check pos/neg supply for pump at the top of tank, if that is ok but pump not running pump is shot, if no 12v and earth, harness or relay or ecm is shot, if pump does run, check pressure at vp while running ideally over 14psi or thereaouts
  21. My Assassin is opposite... 14 idle 22 ish max, builds psi very quick
  22. Bang on... my Assasin is zero at startup, I have no electric pump, as soon as it starts its at 14psi at idle to just over 22 max. Never needed a priming pump as it will suck a football down a garden hose
  23. Our news telling us USA now has the highest infections and highest deaths of any country even higher than china. our PM Boris Johnson has it as does prince charles
  24. Regarding a tuner.... get a quad, fitted mine about 2 months ago. I've got a 47re with no mods as far as I know so taking it really steady as I don't need trans probs as here in the uk that would be ££££££ but it has totally changed my truck, it is smoother, its in LU more, just a little bit more power makes all the difference
  25. The wt mod does make a huge difference to tc lock problems as you've seen, the noise filter not so.
