  1. Is your fan working? Like locked up. That would be max airflow through the rad all the time.
  2. Yes the smarty has to be reloaded everytime. I used it when parking it at the airport over the weekend. I saw the cold autotranny update but didnt live in WA at the time and forgot about it since then. What is the TSB? What about the fuse for the ignition? Not sure of the wiring dont have my FSM in front of me. When you saw fuel relay, I am thinking of a vp running with no pressure. Do we have a ASD relay or is that only gassers? Gotta look in the morning now. Got a idea for a new smiley. one scratching his chin as in deep thought. LOL
  3. How easy do you need to be able to disable it? I got a smarty and the older software had a program that prevented the truck from starting. I also had one that would kill the engine with a load on it. It would start fine and idle but the minute you put it in gear it would die. I imagine it wouldn't be to effective on a manual. Could also tie it into another accessory. Like you have to push up on the window switch in order to activate the relay.
  4. Have you checked the rad for gunk buildup on the fins? What thermo are you running? I need to pull my rad out again and clean the gunk again. Still have the oem catch can. This time I will relocate it when the colling system gets cleaned this time.
  5. Oh well, sux when something isnt broke. Means we gotta keep looking. Hmm I think we need a new drawing board. Was it mentioned if anyone has a new VP? Wonder if its a sign of one getting weak. Not so much as going bad, but just tired? Mine has around 190K on it. Bought the truck with 56K so unless it was replaced within that time More thinking: Read a current mag, Dieselpower IIRC, and they showed the guts of a VP. Question is guys with a scan gauge, can you see the timing? Does the VP advance timing once in gear? Maybe the timing piton in the vp is getting sticky or not able to compensate for the load in gear at first. Since it seems to mainly be an issue during first start up.
  6. Mine is exactly the same. It hasnt stalled since it has gotten warmer but it stumbles once put in gear. This was after the bigger injectors as well. Havent driven it in like 2 weeks however.
  7. What size axles are on that trailer? My car hauler only has 3500lb axles, and my 01 weighs in around 6500. Looking to upgrade the axle on my hauler to 5200lbers.
  8. On my 18' car hauler, brakes are required? Did not know that. It has one axle brakes and they do a good job. I do keep those maintained. I found one place that sells 25' of flat 4 cord for $16. Might get 2 of em and run em down each side. When I put the LEDs on the trailer I used another 4 way connector to make them replaceable with out having to cut wires. With a harness down either side I can double up the wires not needed thus running 2 14ga wires in parrallel to power the lights. Poor man's way of heavier gauge wire. MAinly cause at $16 not worth buying a single roll of brown wire to maintain the color coding for the running lights, since I need a brown to run down both sides. This way I also get the 4 way connector at the lights well. They also sell duplex brake cable in 100' rolls for $70. At most I only need 25'. I figure roughly 12' down each side to the axles. Like I said trying to prevent wires from crossing the trailer underneath. This trailer gets dragged all over. My cargo trailer tends to stay on the road as it like to sink when loaded and not on the road.....yeah lessoned learned. Still trying to think of a simple yet damage proof setup to hook up to the truck.
  9. That explains it. I couldn't understand how hawaii and alsaka were close yet alaska has all that snow....
  10. Got any ideas on how to get the sat antenna in the cab? I ran the antenna in through the bottom. Carpet didnt start getting wet right after the install so I imagine the gasket finally went. I am doing the vinyl either way, and never thought of reusing the carpet. I like that idea. Will definately keep that in mind. I do have a pressure washer to.
  11. Thanks. What about have both a 4 way connector and a 7 way? My ramcharger only has a 4 way, and of course the Ram have the 7 way. I also looked at the traielr closer for ideas, and forgot this one has the brakes running one side and the lights split and ran down each side of the trailer. I will probably follow that but run the brakes split as well. That way no wires cross under the trailer. The trailer has little "U"'s welded to hold the wire up. Thinking of using adel clamps. instead. Seen people use pvc pipe to run the wires in as well. The trailer has angle iron for the main frame. 1/4 thick 4x4 iirc. Ideas on something to run the wires in? I had one cargo trailer lose half the rear ligths when a tire blew and caught the 12" of wire in the back where it came out of the frame to cross to the other side. That trailer has "C" channel welded together to from a tube. At 33' long I cant rerun the wires in the frame. :banghead: That one is getting sold however. When is a breakaway box required? Trailer only has one axle with brakes but changing that in the future as well. Only has dual 3500lb axles for now as well. One more thing, on the lights it states anything over 80" requires the 3 center lights. Is that 80" total? I would imagine so. Either way it doesnt have them and I want them so I can see the corners at night. Just wondering if that are required as it didnt come with them either.
  12. Ok I have towed heavy too. There is a thin line between crazy and stupid. I'm close but still consider myself on the crazy side. Max ever I towed was 29K GCW. Well that was when moving. Got stuck leaving our yard. Drove 20miles to a truck stop, weighed it realized I wasnt on the crazy side anymore, drove back and unloaded a good bit. Not as much as I thought. I normally tow heavy when we have to move which has been trips like from Fl to AZ, Az to Or, Or to FL, Fl back to Az, then finally Az to Wa. Yes my own one lap of america. Normally weight is usually, around 24K GCW. Both of my cargo trailers have WD hitches. I have them setup so when the truck squats a bit in the back, my hitch weight is about spot on. I always weigh the rig just to double check. I would load the camper however, make sure you are not over loaded on the tires. My are for 3400 and change. About 6800 for the rear axle rating. The axle can handle more but not with a blown tire. One of my weigh slips shows a truck weight over 10K. Just over 3K on the front and right around 7K on the rear. One of the few times I ran the truck tires overloaded. My normal speed was only 55mph. That was a boring drive.
  13. I like the homemade firewood hauler with the cop wheels. Got theose on my car trailer as well. How did he get that boat on top of the truck? I know it isnt but looks like it is just sitting on the topper. I gotta find some of my pics. Not anything cool, just lots of miles with the same trailers.
  14. Somewhere in my big book of projects, I need to redo the wiring on my car trailer. Just a plain old 18' hauler. I know the wiring schematic, just looking for ideas on execution. Not sure if I want to add a breakaway switch or not. I probably should. One idea is to put a 7 way connector on the trailer like the truck and have a doulbe male ended patch cord to connect the 2. No hanging wires to catch. If I get 7 conductor trailer cable, I basically have to cut the jacket off at the axles to pull the brake wires out then just run the remaining wires for the lights. Or I could get a parallel pair for the brakes and the 4 conductor wire for the lights. I might also need a 7 stud junction box on the tounge as well, if I do the female connector on the trailer as well. Any suggestions? Want to keep it simple so trouble shooting is easier as well. I have had this thing for about 15yrs and its finally time to fix the wiring, and make it last another 15. Interesting how I never had any issues with it till I loaned it out. Now if someone needs it I will do the pulling. lesson learned.
  15. LOL I will take pics. Need to fix my blend air door while I'm in there and clean the air ducts out. Previous owners were smokers. Their vinyl flooring doesnt look to have a matting behind it. I had a ex cop diplomat with the factory vinyl with the matting. Hopefully their vinyl is a little thicker. Tired of grungy looking carpet. My interior is biege/or camel or whatever color name. Cant remember off hand now. :duh:Passenger side carpet gets wet from time to time. Havent been able to pin point when. No antifreeze smeel, coolant not dropping and not after a rain either.
  16. Getting ready to install my alarm in the truck and while the interior is out, I am want to spray the inside with a sound deadener/insulation material. 2 things I founs are lizard skin and a product called coolcar. Leaning towards coolcar since they are in seattle if they will let me pick it up locally instead of shipping. If not, well then its a matter of overall price including shipping. Anyone have any experience with either? Oh I am also replacing the carpet with a full vinyl flooring as well. from auto-interior.com I want biege but I think it will be a tad too much. so going with the black.
  17. Ok thought so. I am working on megasquirting our Ramcharger and swapping in a magnum engine as well. Need an WBo2 for it, saw diesels mentioned. Got me thinking as I have been reading about EFI live supporting cummins now. (probably not our years, the red headed step children ) I would love to tune the diesel. Not saying I would be good at it, but fun non the less. I datalogged our bike and played in the ecm as well. Definately fun. Takes some getting used to coming from carbuetors. LOL
  18. The one I use. So what does the 25um @..... mean? Its a 30um filter but can stop 98.7% of particles that are under 30 but bigger than 25um?
  19. Anyone notice any difference going with the fluid damper? Smoother?
  20. Well since on the subject of cruise control, what about where the cruise creates a dead pedal? I will have mine on and after a few miles the trucks appears to drop out of cruise. Just like hitting the cancl button. First time it did this I went to hit the gas pedal and it was on the floor. Scared me thought the vp just went. turn off cruise and the pedal comes back up, truck runs fine but has a code. cant remember which ome exactly. something about apps voltage not agreeing. I havent used cruise in a while. Havent had tinme to really get into it yet, and worried that one time I will end up with a dead pedal. When its working all the buttons work normally too. I might have to actually go out try it again. Cureently truck is just about out of fuel. Getting ready to drop the tank and order a DSV. Damn 1/4 tank issues are getting old after 6 yrs!
  21. Think about usign a dash mounted pod? You get em mounted ok?
  22. However there is no proof you actually hit 1mil. odo still only reads 999999. Wonder if a dealership could reset it, or if it is still counting just not showing? Nice, I was happy with my almost 250K Or, now you gotta pull the engine and put it in a truck with a working odo.
  23. Researching for another project I came across wideband o2's that are also diesel rated. I know some VW's have them for emissions. Other than that any reason to have one in our trucks? Only thing I could see is for tuning, but even then it seems to just be another way to
  24. Thanks. Anymore info on the scan gauge? I saw Mike's as well and I like that idea.
