  1. Thanks Diesel for life. IBMobile, I don't think I should reveal the location. It would be sad if it got mobbed and disrespected. I'm not an environmental case.... just, I've seen what people do when a place becomes popular. Owners did mention they try not revealing too much about this place. I want to respect that. PM me and I'll tell you a bit more about it.
  2. Has anyone seen the CNN report about how approx. 33% of Americans have an average debt of $5200 bucks that is in collections right now? If that isn't a sign that a good portion of workers aren't paid enough. Why do we need to keep working for less all the time as inflation out paces our pay? Look at the married couple that went on vacation in Hawaii. The wife had a premature baby that needed to stay in an incubater for 2 mos. The Bill is almost a million bucks and is still climbing. Insurance isn't paying because they were from Canada, even though their insurance company is a very large company selling policies all over North America. How much would a tradesmen need to make in order to equitably pay for a new work truck? You know... his pay being even with what the truck costs in todays market. How far will this go? To me all this is a very weird situation and going crazy. What do you guys think about all this stuff going on?
  3. He he he, good one. Thanks.
  4. If anyone deserves a derogatory name it would be me for not posting the tank access mod. Truth is I have a hard time, wife also, figuring out how to post photos. Joe you are welcome anytime to come look see.... it would be much better that way as there are some important details I cannot get to show in the pics.
  5. I would try some clever insulation practices. You might get some great and crazy ideas on that. One thing to consider, Going to those plumbing contractors supply houses are far better than Home Depot for small pipe insulation. Keller supply, for example, sells the real thick stuff. Makes the HD or the Ace hardware stuff look like it's fake by comparison. It comes various sizes, some for large pipe, big enough to make a 'cupholder' type covers for the filters. For the money.... $450 is kind' high, I would try isulating first anyway. No one can tell but, this winter might be a real puncher.
  6. Might be good to insulate the fuel lines with the smaller pipe insulation. I would try to get some insulation around the filters too. It might help. I use the foam pads they use for sleeping on the ground . Cut a pieces to fold over the bottom and go up around the sides and zip tie it. You can get real creative with that stuff for rv doors and many other areas.
  7. Is it an easy change out? From under the hood and not have to remove the dash? Wondering too if there is an easy way to lube the shaft bearing?
  8. Thank you for the complement LiveOak. I think most buyers would rather not deal with the county, septic permits, well drilling, power company and land use zoning and water rights etc. Lots of folks would rather have those things taken care of. There is less risk anyway.
  9. interesting story about bee keeping, getting a new wild hive. I did not know that you can buy buckets of pollen to feed the bees during winter months. Do you Just spread the pollen on a flat surface and they come gather it?
  10. Freezing rain/ sleet, 29 degrees, east wind gusts to around 20 mph. Woodstove hot, burning maple.
  11. Around the freezing mark here this morning, in western Oregon, with the wind howling around 40-50 mph gusts.
  12. Wow! How about if you wet your lips do they freeze together? Gotta' hurt. In any case, I see a big need for chapstick. minus 58.... can't imagine working in those conditions. 42 degrees here in Western Oregon this morning.
  13. Can you describe what -30 degrees is like? Do you all pee ice crystals in conditions like that? Not to be funny just really would like to know if that's true. Also if you carry out a cup of hot coffee in a mug does the coffee mug crack and break too?
  14. I try using the overhead for comparisons only bu,t know in reality, like you say, a marketing stint.
  15. Living less than a hundred miles from the coast those conditions would be like the worse portion of our winters here in Oregon. I feel for you guys because I know it will get worse as winter progresses for you out there.
  16. I'm watching for decreased fuel economy, white smoke, rough idle, and any other notable signs. None so far. It's very weird since fuel econ. has gotten better, not hand calculated, just what's on the overhead computer. Weird because I've never had such great fuel mileage like I have lately.
  17. Yes, when the dead pedal occurred. Codes where 500 from laying scratch on my gravel and 0216 for about 3 years now without any symptoms other than momentary fuel cavitation. Next mod is the Hellman tank sump with a swing away skid plate to stop the cavatation.
  18. I was just reading some forecasts on this, one reputable forecaster said Arctic blast will be of 'historic proportions' in that it comes so unusually early and with the way conditions are setting up. Doesn't happen very often. Last comparison to this time was back in 1955.
  19. Those are the 3 things I read about on other forums. It's not like I'm so experienced that l know how to solve all problems. Basically shootin in the dark tryin' to avoid the 44 is the truth of the matter.
  20. I understand there are 3 other items that cause hard starts. Bad or intermittent ASD relay. Bad or intermittent fuel shut off relay. Bad overflow Valve. Assuming everything else in good order.
  21. I got momentary dead pedal on very very slow take off when cold. So I put on the Timbo Apps with no dead spots afterward. Howver, I got one hard start when the engine was still hot. How long did you guys run your old VP after hard starts? Thank you in advance.
  22. PICTURES..... ENJOY.... There is no proper arrangement to the pics, all taken from this same valley. At least you can see the rock I spoke about in a couple different pics. Barely see the Bristlecone pines on top. I have a couple shots from on top of the rock in which there are a couple 1,000 yr olds. See if I can post those tonight.
  23. Sorry to say that my wife came home sick tonight with flu like symptoms so no pics tonight. I there someone willing to explain the picture posting process? I will try if there are no technical terms but explained very simply. Killer, how far away from a bear does the smell become so pungent? It was very strong and sudden. Also I had a bull Elk charge at me once while staring too long at his females. He stopped charging for me when I fell over a stump while running. I did not smell anything like the smell I experienced this day in the Sierras.
  24. I know that smell your talking about, when you cross an area of a bog with stagnant water and rotting organic material. I know it wasn't that as I would have recognized it. I was beyond the wet area and above the spring on the V shaped hill by then. The wind was blowing a light breeze as if the warm air helped cook up the scent of pines. The smell was sudden, overpowering. Something I had never smelled before but was unmistakably that of a wild animal, as if nature designed a perfect warning signal tuned for human interpretation, something innate that warned you to turn away from there. I want to post the pics soon.... it bugs me I have to have someone do it for me all the time. Although they are on the computer desktop at least. Wife will have time early evening to post pictures. I know you guys would like to see this place.
  25. The smell wasn't something that creeps up on you slow and recognize later. This was a sudden radical change from smell of the Ponderosa Pine in the air. It was very potent and unmistakably wild whatever it was. Even though I had never smelled anything like it before it was as an immediate warning to stay away.
