Strange bobbing of the fuel pressure gauge?
Mine does the same thing and is related to sharp turns, hard stops, hard take offs and bumps. I think it's the lack of baffles in the tank so you get a slight fuel vacuum with excessive fuel slosh. It occurs more when the tank is down to 3/8ths of a tank or less.

Watch the weather for this winter.....
Thanks for mentioning about the propane and gasoline for the generator. You know we haven't had anything very significant weather wise for a long time in the NW.

Watch the weather for this winter.....
Colors on only 2 trees I saw out of hundreds at high school. Wild hazelnut is beginning to get some yellow.

Possible lift pump fix teaser
Ed, Do you have an opinion on Racor filters? Using them on both trucks. Thank you.

Watch the weather for this winter.....
Ordered another load of Douglas Fir coming tomorrow. Nice when It's so very busy to just order it. Used to always cut it myself. saw some fall colors near the high school. Was surprised.

Watch the weather for this winter.....
Gut tells me that we might be in for a wild ride this winter. At least out west anyway as the jet stream has been running more radical with changing air masses, long sweeps running north and down south. I'm not a paid weather man so could be wrong. Just make sure you get plenty firewood in and truck's ready to roll.

When I google ' problems with no lead solder', there are a few things mentioned about some issues, bad connections and so forth. Need to look into this further when I have more time. Since I have a hard time understanding some of the tech terms, perhaps someone with electrical experience/ education look into this for us. I think this might be another direction to go.

Auto transmission article
At 85 k miles I've not had the hunt except for one time. I simply zip tied the wire harness going over the ALT. so it's not touching the alt. housing. Later I discovered some grounding resistance thru the alternator mounting bracket ground. Read a couple articles about a small benefit to grounding the alternator housing directly to the neg. battery post. Just used one of the alt housing nuts on the back for a connection and have never experienced any more transmission hunting. That's not to say it won't start hunting in the future sometime as this may only be a partial fix.

I Ain't Happy
Yes, and then there is some companies that say, ''well bring it in, we'll cover it under warrantee''. So nice they are...... but in the process you discovered their workmanship is not so good. So why would you want to bring it back for some more of their work? Good places to eat are hard to find. Cook finally one day says to himself, ''why do I want this being so busey/ popular and always work myself to death''...... so he starts to not care and in the process looses customers and now does not have work as hard. This has seemingly happened to two great restaraunts we were going to.

time for a new tranny
I have to ask; If I spared no expense for the very best, got a loan if need be, what would be the worlds best for my second gen?

I Ain't Happy
It' very sad that we have people that can take your money, knowingly cheating on their work, and have the lack of moral character to offer half of what their negligence cost you. That pisses me off. I sure would spread the word like wildfire about this guys tactics.

Is it possible that AC noise can elevate to damaging levels under higher electrical demands and higher engine revs?
-
VP44 PSG fuel cooler ideas
Now I think it smart if we all put in AC noise gauges. Right next to Fuel pressure.

Wouldn't constant temps be potentially less harmful to electronics than radical sudden changes in temperature? I do like my oem filter heat isolation block I made. Keeps the manifold heat off the filter.

I Ain't Happy
MnTom, was it a guy that came highly recommended from a friend of a friend kind a thing? And he promised the ''no other work comes close'' for big big big big savings? And was there junk mess around his yard? His jeans unwashed for 6 mos. or more? This might be the same guy that had to move in big hurry. Was wunderin' where he went.

What to look for in 1st Gen?
A couple thoughts; Try to stay away from the auto trans, but here's what I'd be looking for; extended cab as much original as possible stay under 150 k miles if it's been taken care of I think the 4wd front ends don't wear out like 2wd trucks. Watch out for hacked electrical work under the dash or hood. If you find one about 150 k miles test the clutch for slippage. Try to stay with a 92 or 93 Bring a flashlite and look close at the fuel lines, look for leaks everywhere. Pull air intake tube and check for bearing wear on the turbo fins and check how smooth it turns. No rubbing on sides when you pull it in/out, up/down. Make sure she fires up right now and runs smooth within first few seconds.

Interesting, You could use the Peltier module in frigid temps to warm the fuel too.

Brutus is down :(
Interesting. This is all new to me. I never put on an EGT gauge. Is there another way to watch that your not pushin' engine too much?
-
Brutus is down :(
Auto trans downshifts seemingly too early when towing or hauling heavy up hills. It will down shift even when you feel plenty of torque still left in the higher gear. How can you burn a piston if the auto trans downshifts a bit early like that?

Flippin' HOT!
That's a lot of fires. Is this one of the worst fires seasons we've seen out west so far?
-
Brutus is down :(
So..... exhaust temps are an indication of cylinder temps and when to down shift. This is the first time I've ever heard any kind of benefit to having an automatic trans. Which I don't like.

Flippin' HOT!
Wishful Thinking Wish we could cancel summer and add more fall and spring in it's place. Have less fires too.

Fuel Pressure/Filter & Transmission Issues
I know very little except to not trust Dodges fuel system. So I have 1/2'' lines all the way with a prefilter to catch the bigger debri before it gets to the pumps inside workings. I like a water separating prefilter so the pump cannot break up the water droplets and emulsify them to a point that the finer factory filter cannot separate those out. Letting any water thru is bad news for a number of reasons. At a 190,000 miles I think you had better drop the tank and rid yourself of the factory screens in the fuel module and rid yourself of that little cylindrical plastic housing inside the module that holds added screening. Do you know if you have an old intank pump still there you are pulling thru? If you modify the fuel module for better flow, no screens and such you may as well change to a 1/2'' drawstraw from Vulcan performance. Anyone here might know... but, wouldn't the trans speed sensor cause your problem with the trans? Also the amount of AC noise coming off the ALT. is supposed to remain very low. Can't remember but, there is an article on how to check for that under articles in this forum. Batteries and all connections need checking as well, but when checking ALT noise you need one of the expensive Fluke type volt meters as most VMs won't show it and aren't accurate enough to do that. BTW, your fuel pressure should never go below 14 p.s.i. that is the least that holds the return flow overflow valve all the way open in order to keep the vp at long lasting cooler temperatures. Also could the assassin pumps' belt be getting oil and slipping from the breather bottle draining oil onto the belt in front of the engine? There is a mod in articles to get it to throw the mist oil to the rear of the engine. Good luck... hope this is some good anyhow. Rember no truck is perfect but being on this forum is the closest you will ever get to that.

Camper Trip with Bud's Duramax Following.....
Your right! he was behind me all the way. Probably close enough for me to break up some wind pressure. We drove exactly the same mileage and number of feet to within a hundred feet or so. Don't know about the pump shut off point but it was the same amount and we were both topped off I'm pretty sure about that.

Camper Trip with Bud's Duramax Following.....
A little surprising fuel tidbit...... We drove most of the day south after topping off at the same fuel stop before starting, me in my Cummins second gen, my bud in his Duramax, each with our slide in campers. When we got to our destination for the day and filled up again I pulled in first and filled up and the pump shut off at $98.89. My buddy pulls into the same pump, fills up and the pump shuts off at $98.89. He's got heavier camper and 19.5 in wheels......
