Possible cold start issue or is it just me?

Is it possible that I simply let off the key to soon? The first time I was thinking gasser, as soon as it fired I let off of cranking.

Pretty flat around here, may have to back it up on to something. Also, how would it loose prime? Something not sealed properly? Wouldn't that leak while under pressure? Assuming it's on the pressure side of the LP.

Possible cold start issue or is it just me?

So this morning the temp outside was 14° F and I went out to fire up the truck so she had time to warm up. It started but reluctantly. I am new to this diesel truck world other than the large semi trucks. This is how it went: Turned on key got the wait to start light, waited for it to go out and cranked the motor, as soon as she started to fire I let the key go, she died. Cycled the key, WTS light went out and cranked again. This time she fired I held the key to start a bit longer. Thought it started to run, she died. WTS light again, then cycled key, WTS light a second time, cranked til she took off. She ran then. Grid heaters are working from what I can tell (after it's running lights dim, amp gauge drops when they cycle). Am I doing something wrong here or could there be a problem? How easily or difficult should it be to start at about 14° (real feel was 4° with wind chill, truck was facing into the wind as well). With my lack of experience with the dodge/Cummins combo I don't know if there is something I may be doing wrong or should do differently or if I should be concerned at this point. Thanks for any replies! Also, just some extra info, the lift pump does run, checked the fuel pres. Not long ago, had 18psi at idle.

		Squeal/siren noise! Please help!!!

Maybe try shooting the video with Windows down, then up, and move the phone around the cab some to maybe pick up the sound better? At what speed does the noise occur? Could you possibly have someone ride in the bed of the truck to at least figure out a more localized area to look at?

I'm not a rich man either, my want list is way longer than my money will stretch most of the time. I'll be trying to plan repairs and upgrades on the truck in stages that I can handle.

I hear you moparman. I would like to do alot if things to the truck but funds will keep me reeled in for a while. When I do take it in for the syncros I will try to have extra set aside for the possibility of new clutch and any other things they may find wrong while in there. Rather have it all done at once but again, fund permitting.

I'll check under there for the plug and the reverse switch. I'll have some time for tinkering now since I was laid off yesterday. Hoping it'll only last for a week or two but we'll see. In the mean time, I can look alot of things over to get more familiar with the truck just won't have money for any projects for now, have to cut back for a bit.

Dripley, You said keep tabs on that six speed, it's a five speed but, I will check it in the next day or so. Not to sound dumb but how do you check it. I'm guessing there is a plug to pull and put a finger in to check the oil level? Also, where would the reverse light switch be on the trans? My back up lights don't work, changed bulbs and still nothing. Thinking switch possibly. Thanks

After seeing the mileage some of you have mine is still new at 140k. Good to know she will be around a long time though. I have a few rust issues to address I'm the summer and trans syncros (mainly 3rd) all else is good to go I believe.

I will definitely crack a beer at the milestones. Since I have my Cummins Dodge now I will be parting with my faithful '95 GMC Z71 with 360,000 plus on the clock. Been a great truck but it was time for something bigger and stronger. Wasn't looking for a dually but hard to pass on the deal so........

Beautiful country moparman. Love the view. Why the v8 truck for now? If you don't mind me asking. Don't want to be nosey. I'm hoping my truck gives me that kind of longevity and more. So far I love the truck, just have to maintain it properly and keep the rust at Bay.

Moparman, you really rack up the miles don't you.

What's the cost to have this done approximately? I assume you mail the sample to them and they mail the results back?

Who does this analysis? Where would I take the sample after collected?

		Oil change interval

My buddy has a 2013 with the 6.7 (he's the one that talked me into mine) and he changes his every 5000 I believe. I thought it was a bit excessive but it's his truck.

One needs to save some where, maintenance can be expensive.

Where would I take the sample for analysis? And what does that results from it tell you? Sorry, new to diesels, never did this on a gasser.

Never heard of that brand. Are those available at any common auto parts store or online?

I honestly do not tow much at all. My truck is truly overkill for what I need. I mainly drive to and from work about 35 miles round trip, about 20% is "city" . 7500 miles would probably last me about 5 months maybe?

		Oil change interval

It won't be long and it'll be that time. I recently bought this truck, previous owner used regular rotella. I am considering full synthetic rotella oil. In the manual it says 7500 miles between changes, would that extend if synthetic is used? For those of you that run synthetic, what interval do you change yours? Just a curious question to see if the extra expense has more advantage than just better oil. Thanks

		rear drum setting

They make a tool for this as well. I used to have one but it was stolen along with my entire top tool box years ago. Been wanting to get another as they are handy.

		Squeal/siren noise! Please help!!!

With the truck off that would isolate the noise to anything moving at the time. Axles, brake drums/rotors, wheel bearings, drive shafts. I may have forgot something but you get the picture. Check anything that would have been moving with engine off in neutral.

		Squeal/siren noise! Please help!!!

May be a stupid idea but, could you have a buddy tow you in neutral, engine off to listen for the squeal? That way it will isolate axles, u-joints and carrier from engine/trans. Just an idea... I listened to the video again and again, could it be a leaking rubber coupler on the boost side? Maybe leaking just enough to whistle? Just throwing ideas out trying to help.

Newbie, changed fuel filter today, have questions

I've been looking at fuel pressure gauges, they are more expensive than I thought for what they are. I'd like to get the trio on the A pillar eventually. I may not need them with a stock motor but I do like to keep an eye on things.

Newbie, changed fuel filter today, have questions

I agree it is to far from the tank. I'm new to Dodge and Cummins (in dodges at least, I drive truck for a living). What would be your recommendation as far as fuel delivery and a reasonable fuel gauge? I'd like to have the pods on the pillar but it's not in the budget at the moment, been a little slow at work.
