		Sorry, I've been absent lately

Just want to touch base with everyone. I've been very scarce lately. I've been dealing with a lot. Trying to get something moving with dad's legal case ( from his car accident that ultimately took him from us) and more recently my mother was battling stage 5 kidney failure along with multiple infections at the same time. She lost her battle and passed away at 9am October 8th. Since then I've been very busy arranging the funeral, after service luncheon and handling other business since mom's will appointed me executor. I have a ways to go before I can fully wrap things up. Mom's house will have to be cleaned, repainted inside, yard work done and then put on the market to be sold. I have to be in court for dad's case Friday at 3pm, hoping some good news will come from that. It's been a stressful ride the past month and have some more ahead but I will keep pushing forward and eventually find the end of this bumpy road.

		NV4500 parts

I bought my parts from a combination of allstate gear and torque king I believe. I had to replace the input shaft, main shaft and counter shaft. Mine was pretty trashed. I also replaced the tail housing, OEM was an aluminum peice, I replaced it with a cast iron piece from torque king.

That should eliminate it from drawing in any air then.

Is it possible that you are pumping aerated fuel from the lift pump to the injection pump and that is causing the loss of prime? Somehow the lift pump could be sucking in air as it also draws fuel and sends it on its way full of bubbles which would facilitate a rapid loss of prime.

		Hello Everyone!

Nice to finally "meet" you Suzanna! I've heard alot about you, Mike and have had many phone conversations where you have come up in topic. Glad to see you have both found some happiness during your medical issues. And CONGRATULATIONS on the upcoming wedding! I hope to someday make my way west to meet Mike and now you in person.

Yes, I saw that. It may be worth looking into. Would low lift pressure cause the fluctuation that he is seeing? I don't know but, any fuel starvation is bad. Also, could there be air in the fuel. Bubbles would certainly cause dips in pressures. Obviously that would be isolated to the suction side of the lift pump. Anything on the pressure side would be in the form of a leak.

Ok, I'm a novice with common rail. Would the firing of the injectors cause a fluctuation? I would think so, to this extent though I'm not sure. Also, what is the preferred pressure from the lift pump? This would cause me to question pressure and or volume from the lift pump. Is there a "big line kit" between the lift pump, oem filter and injection pump?

Staying With OEM 3" Exhaust System

The exhaust on mine was on there when I bought it about 5ish years ago. So far it's holding up against the elements pretty well. It's a 4" from the turbo back via a 3" to 4" adapter of some kind right on the turbo. It has 2 straight through type mufflers (think old school cherry bomb type) and it's not really that loud. It sounds pretty good actually when I'm towing one of the 10k lbs fifth wheels. She has a nice growl to it. Only downside is where the pipe goes over the rear axle it is in the way to mount the spare tire in the oem location under the truck so it rides in the bed under the tool box.

		Driving with 5th gear removed

Oh wow. Is the main case ok? Look it iver good for cracks. I would suggest a full rebuild at this point. Everything in there has been hot with no oil to cool and lubricate. Check all the gears for damage, you had bits of metal flying around in there. I recommend at the least replace all the bearings, syncros and anything else that even looks suspicious.

		Is my grid heater dying?

That is something I may have to do in the future as well. I've pulled and pushed on the control arms and couldn't get any movement but when someone rides on the passenger side they say they can feel something knocking under their feet when we hit a bump. I can hear anything from the driver's seat. I know the body mount is tight, I've checked that. Only other thing in that area would be the control arm mounts.
