Talking behind Mike's back...
I can't think of anything to post privately. I think the purpose of participating is to share. I guess if anyone wants to call me a bad name they can PM me.Maybe we could plot a rebellion & hold Mike hostage until he builds a "directory" post stickied in each catagory with a link to the information. I've been doing this on my MS site... anytime I research something for someone I add it to the directory. Russ

manual mirrors
My 01.5 SLT plow & tow packages, came full power, except for manual tow mirrors. May not have been an option with my packages. If switches were installed, I doubt that they'd be removed. If I was converting from std mirrors to tow mirrors, I'd just swap the mirrors. It's just not logical. Where do the switches mount?Russ

Trying to understand A/C and heating
You have cold air so the AC is working. You have cold air coming out of the dash. If the vacume control fails, it would go to the default mode which is defrost vents on the windshield. You don't indicate this happening. The only other thing is the blend door. As I said, it's on the passenger side of the hump. The little plastic connector could have failed as they are prone to do. Or the door could be just stuck. When the ignition is turned on, it goes through an orientation cycle which must be induced after it's been apart. Russ

Trying to understand A/C and heating
The blend door can be done with the dash in place. You have to peel back the rug & cut away a bit of rubber insulation. I had to buy a tiny right angle driver. I had to do it mostly one handed (my disability again) but I got 'er done. Read more at: http://www.heatertreater.net/ It is a multi position control. Pay very close attention when you open ther gear case & MARK the fr*ggen motor as it's reverseable & no way to guess the orientation. I bought the kit but mine was not broke, turns out mine is the vacume controled side like I thought at first. Now that I know how & have cut the rubber, I could remove / replace in 1/2 hour (one hand). Russ

Trying to understand A/C and heating
The Heat AC "system" is crazy. The output vent: floor, dash, defrost is controled by vacume. It this goes bad the default mode is defrost. A diesel does not make enough vacume so a pump is mounted to the engine. There are threads on this. I think the dash has to come out to service these controls, but I'm not there yet.The Blend door is under the dash just to the right of the hump & is electrical. There are threads on this here as well. While recommended to remove the dash to service it's possible to do so with enough tricks & persistance without. There is also the normal Heater & AC parts.

Vacuum line Schematics
I really find the pictures & information here so helpful. Those who have a clue, lending a helping hand to the rest of us... isn't that what life is supposed to be about? Russ

Vacuum line Schematics
Thanks guys,My 01.5 has been stuck on defrost for some time. No one seems to have/publish/share much info on these PITA heat/AC control systems... Russ

I need help ASAP please
After having the replacement SS exhaust hanging around for a year... I had the CTD in a decent garage & dropped the job on them. They put it together, looked like a well done job... though I thought they charged me plenty. The mechanic said he had to heat & bent some of the hangers so the Universal long wheelbase second gen exhaust kit would clear the rear spring. My truck's not smokin' under the hood... I guess I should be happy & feel better about the cost.Russ

1,000,000,000 mpg...
Yes, I can appropriate the slow vehicle warning triangle off Sheila's unused pony cart... though I don't want to use it on the roads much. Maybe the annual "MS walk". This is more to take the place of my horse for off road activities.Russ

Wife left in a Subaru... came home in a Jaguar!!
a 1989 Jaguar XS6... pretty color but "as is" this auction example is a piece of crap. Dear Daughter's VW broke down... It's been at a garage for a week. With herself & husband & toddler to transport... she'd borrowed an aunt's car. After a week, it had to go back, thankful for the use. So wife left daughter with the Subaru while she tried out a number of vehicles to borrow off her brother's used car lot. Admittedly these vehicles were not ready to sell, but she went through several that she took back before the Jag. The J had one headlight out (H3 sealed beam) but had a spare in the trunk... we installed it yesterday in about 2 hours. The door locks & electronics don't work right. I'm driving the CTD daily instead of the Cirris which needs brakes all around. My buddy promised we could do them in his son's garage but the stuff hit the fan (bank has foreclosed) & that's not happening. I'm having trouble finding someone who'll work with the parts I already own.Daughter had her VW towed to dealer Friday. The guy at the "import garage" was not happy but after more than a week, he'd not been able to fix it. I hope the Subaru comes home quickly.Russ

1,000,000,000 mpg...
Unit has head & tail lights, turn signals & flashers (run on 24 volts same as the drive motors). Supposedly has a 20 mile range, can make 10 mph... holly crap that thing is flying! I want the Snoopy Flying Ace goggles... maybe a roll bar...Russ

No cruise control
Does the heat / A/C control work... to send the air to defrost / dash / floor? This is also vacume controled. If that's ok, then likely the vacume is ok. Eliminates one possibility. Good luck.Russ

Finally got gauges hooked up here is what I have!
I have to say you guys are right on. My 410 truck gets it's best mpg... in the 18s... at 45 or so. I run highway at 55-60, just under 2000 rpm and the mileage is decent. It'll run 65 but the mpgs drop off. All this is lightly loaded. Russ

Last Resort
This does not directly apply to your case but I'll bore you with a story. Long ago, in a previous life, I was a boat mechanic. One customer's boat drove me nuts... a 28 footer with a single gas engine V8 based on a Ford 289. I'd set everything to spec & he'd go out for an hour & come back in with it sputtering. I marked the distributor & carb screws so I'd know if he or one of his buddies had messed with it. (I was convinced they had.) NOPE.I had to tell him there was something wrong with it but I could not find it. I freed it up & winched it out. (Backed into our lift pier, we could put the extended forks of our off road fork lift under his fixed hard top as a sky hook. We used a chain fall to raise it above the cockpit, then walked the boat out from under it.) We put it in the back of his truck. He took it to a rebuilder who rebocked it & reinstalled all his marine gear in a week. The guy took his boat on vacation. Before he got back, the rebuilder called looking for him. The message was something like "What's he trying to do? Stick me with a dead core?" The rebuilder had gotten the block almost through the process before he found cracks in the block between the cam & main journals. When it felt like it, the block would flex & all the settings would change.I spent the next year crawking around in the bilge replacing the rebuilders steel freeze plugs as they failed in the raw water (salt) cooled engine. Now that I think on it... I recall my Chevy C30, 454. I had it in a shop when I couldn't make it run right. Neither could they. I finally found it had thrown a push rod & had had a hung valve (why it failed). Some things don't throw codes. When all else fails, go back to basics.I wish you luck,Russ

1,000,000,000 mpg...
I thought about loading it into the bed of the Dodge with a ramp but my dear wife is scared of ramps. I don't know if it would have climbed a steep ramp (4X4) anyway. So as long as I have the CTD & the landscaper's trailer, that's how I'll move it around. I'm measuring & figuring to add a lugage rack to the rear for my nesessary items. OEM had a bracket for the back of the swivel seat. So You get off one side & it hides your can & rollator walker on the far side.Let's see if we can drop in a diesel! Too cool!R

1,000,000,000 mpg...
Just needs a long extension cord! It runs on 2 group 27 AGM batteries. 1/3hp. Wife has been thoughtfully on my case... I just can't get around at our outdoor activities. She suggested I get a scooter. Insurance will not pay for outdoor units. I tipped a rental unit over a couple of times. I found this one on CraigsList. No good deed goes unpunished... I hung up the trailer wiring on the trip to buy it... yanked the trailer plug & it dragged on the ground & was ruined. I replaced the plug... still had problems. I figured with yanking the wiring (I never liked how the wires were dressed.) I've had it apart again. Finally I had it working except for the left turn signal. I traced it to a burned out bulb! I used to always travel with a box of spare bulbs for the horse trailer. Guess what? I found the box, had the right bulb, cleaned it up with a scotch bright pad & it worked. I'm beat, but at least I'm back to working forward! Oh, yeah, I found a picture on the internet... a guy put knobbies on his machine & took it hunting. I want that! Russ

Wife fueled the Truck!!
Praise be that the wife knows about diesel. Dear Daughter (blonde) is not about to borrow my truck.

Wife fueled the Truck!!
Yes, 128:1 (or a pinch over). Fuel station not the place to be messing with measuring.

Wife fueled the Truck!!
I originally bought yellow Pensoil Marine quarts & refilled from a gallon bought on sale at Wally's. Lately I've been buying the 1 gallon blue jug... the yellow quarts show marker really well.To fit in the door pocket it must be compressed a bit in the middle. I figured out the correct ounces (+1) plus a bit of crush room for a typical refill. I loosen the cap, bleed the air, retighten the cap to reduce leakage. An extra oz of oil covers any inaccuracy. I carry 2 of the premeasured containers in the driver's side door pocket & 2 more on the passenger's. I seldom use more fuel than the first 2 on a trip but I don't want to screw up. As before, I'll not get into a discussion again... Repeat after me "My fuel additive".Russ

A/C out again
I picked up the recharge kit for the AC... not too bad at all. I'll call the nephew. I picked up the fan speed resistor at the same time for the Cirrus. The AutoParts listing describes it as "under the hood". I smelled hot Inside the Car! With part in hand, I know what I'm looking for now. Wife's Subaru back out of the shop. It ate the inner drive shaft boots... threw grease on the cat. What fun. 2 new axles, change fluid in diffs... only $1200. OUCH!!Daughter had her VW in the shop for a water pump & timing belt. Had it back for a day. Quit beside the road. Walked the baby to daycare & then to work. Bummer!! Wife is doing GrandMa duty tonight. Russ

Wife fueled the Truck!!
Kids moving again. Wife used the truck & actually fueled it before bringing it home! (I've been stressing about not letting the fuel get low, which I'm convinced is harder on the lift pump.) She actually loaded the TCW3 "D. fuel additive" premeasured in a quart bottle in the door pocket... Just when you think there's no hope... RPS. Original yellow TCW3 oil bottles are now marked as above with marker.
