  1. The official ceremonial trianglular folding of the flag only applies to the Stars & Stripes. I don't know of any prescribed folding for any other flag but I've only seen them folded rectangularily... like a bed sheet.
  2. My saving for the truck is going to take a hit... I started the backhoe yesterday... jumped it off the CTD. It started well, considering how long it had been sitting under that tarp. Some of the hydraulics are stiff... they work but the controls don't return immediately when you let go. SURPRISE!! The batteries have been junk for some time... If it stops (stalls or is shut off) somewhere I can't get to with the truck, it won't restart. So I'm going to bite the bullet & put batteries in it. $228 for the pair from NAPA... in stock. I've got them freed up but I can't lift them out of the hole under the deck... gotta get nephew in to help. Wifee has got in-laws to cut some trees down & a piece of heavy equipment would be very handy. We have managed to take down some big ones (3 leaning over the barn & the latest leaning toward the house). How it was done: Ropes in direction of fall. Carefully notched the direction of fall. Made the cut & used wedges to push tree over. Big tree over barn, we had the backhoe on one of the ropes. Should have done that yesterday. In fact this picture was taken BEFORE those trees were removed... seen over the "hoe". Batteries are marked "97"... treated felt washers on all the terminals. NO corrosion, came right off. It is interesting that the felt washers LOOK dirty but nothing more but are mush when I tried to take them off. I bought new ones for the new batteries I brought home today.
  3. Back before the current wars, RI Nat Guard C130s used to use our house as a turning mark... they'd fly the state borders to get their training time in. They have plenty of flying time currently with call ups...Russ
  4. I'm going to be setting my alarm at night (in my driveway). My uncracked 01.5 dash guarded by my friends, Mr Smith & Mr Wesson, Mr Colt ...
  5. Surprised they did not blow it up with ether... Manual specifically warns NOT TO since the heater grid will ignite it... Not sure if this is true of the common rail trucks. Someone will come along to advise. I don't know what to think of the shop's diagnosis.
  6. Thanks for the reminder... I need to get my winter front on too.
  7. I've been pricing at NAPA on-line... my truck is 8800 gvw & has plow prep package. That seems to push the shocks into a higher price catagory. OUCH! Haven't looked at rear yet.I've been further window shopping at O'Reilly's... I need some specific recommendations.
  8. I'm a few months to six oooo so I clicked that o
  9. moostang, My problem exactly. Wife & I didn't talk... well, if she did, I couldn't have heard it! I recieved my "Resonator". I ordered the SS 30" model... The 30" is the active length, length over all is longer. It might be too long for some muffler combinations. I'm going to leave my straight through muffler behind it... more for looks than anything. [Yes ,officer, see it HAS a muffler!] It sure is heavy built. There's only a slight swell to the case from the 4" in / out. There's about a 2" straight through center hole, around the outside is a generous spiral. It will be interesting to hear what this sounds like with the camper on. (Won't be towing it again until Spring).
  10. One thought, my mechanic found my front rubber lines had collapsed internally, preventing the calipers from releasing properly. My other thought is see if the pads are correct for your truck. At the least, too small pads will wear too quickly... at worst the missfit might chew the pads all up.
  11. Just an update... The NAPA autoparts called, my ALTROM ATM 64150 bulbs were in. They were indeed priced LESS THAN the NAPA branded bulbs... But get this: the ALTROM ATM 64150 bulbs are made in GERMANY contrast with the Hungery made NAPA bulbs. Years ago, the non-DOT lens & H1 bulbs I ran in my RoadRunner were Hella & Carrello (Hella is German & the optocs were superb). Here's hoping the ALTROM bulbs are of equal quality to my old ones.
  12. I don't believe it's that simple. Having 2 alturnators charging the same battery bank... there will be interaction as one voltage regulator "sees" the voltage output of the other. I think finding a alturnator with enough output is preferable... otherwise one could isolate loads & have 2 battery systems with isolators.
  13. It's not mine but I saw a 1969 Plymouth Roadrunner (383) in decent unrestored shape. I don't know the asking price. Located in Coventry, RI
  14. I just ordered a 30" SS resonator from FTE for my 01.5 I loved the sound with my 4" straight through muffler running light but wifee needed ear plugs on the trip towing the camper. Well, I liked the sound on my old truck too (79 Chevy C30, built 454, headers...) until I hooked up to the horse trailer. LOL!!I'll report results after.
  15. I think the "brighter" aftermarket bulbs sacrifice some life for that brightness... I have ordered the ALTROM ATM 64150 bulbs thru NAPA locally (rather than an online purchase). $4.59 each with a 12 month warentee. The NAPA branded bulbs cost $6.99 each with a 90 day warentee. I'm assuming the manufacturers know what they are talking about & would not give a 12 month warentee if they didn't believe they'd last that long... I also found listings for Sylvania bulbs at $6.99 only a 90 day warentee with them... Any rate, this is the choice I made. I'm clocking the NAPA bulbs I just installed in her Subaru now... I'll report back when I get more data.edit: NAPA bulbs "Made in Hungry"ALTROM bulbs "made in Germany"
  16. Talk to me about the different kinds of senders... Is it worth the extra money for the matching digital senders?
  17. We're a friendly (and helpful) group here... otherwise, I'd never make it. Tell us about your Jeep or better yet fill in your signature with as much info as you can think of.
  18. Thanks for the tip about brightness. I did my cardboard mock up which is why I'm excited... The other possibilities just won't work for me. For the towing I occasionally do, I feel naked without the 4 guage set with the automatic & all... I think this will work. This has got me psyched to get all the work done & be ready to truck! --- Update to the previous post... I really like ISX’s neet install & would like to do so on my 01...I have NO gauges beyond OEM. The Dodge surround for the OEM instruments is a bit different... I’ve been poking & prodding... I can see semi-recessing into the top of the (Second Gen) OEM cluster bezel, so it would be above the tach & speedometer viewed from the driver’s seat. What I want is a 4 gauge digital group... What parts would I need to order? http://www.auberins.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=5&zenid=8e1935c848838db60b048b3aad855430 My dash lights are green. Gauge green (EGT).................. 19. I think the majority of H1 lamps available today are used in inexpensive driving lights... and are cheaply made to sell at a low price point. The fact that Subaru went to (and bulb makers list, even if hard to find) "long life" bulbs, shows recognition of this as an issue. Since having a headlight (rather than an optional driving light) go out, could be serious... I'm going to follow Subaru's lead & go to LL Bulbs in the future. Some attribute the short bulb life to Subaru's use of low beams as DRLs.
  20. I let my truck sit... health issues prevented me from physically getting into it... the dang brakes rusted up so the discs dragged the caliper frame... though the CTD drove it down the road "fine" (even passed state inspection that way) the mpg was way off (the following year, a different state inspection found it). NOW, I drive it at least once a week... 20 minutes to the nearest civilization, same back... Oh, yes, I scuff the brakes down the long hill leaving my house (also had to replace a rear disc because of rust chatter).
  21. I used to see that tubing as hydraulic lines running trim tabs on outboard & I/O boats... Nice tubing for suction lines so I kept any scraps from installs.
  22. I've always wondered if good warm up & cool down practices were affecting the 53 blocks. I think my 01.5 is a 56. I crawled around under there until I found it.
  23. Your instrument cluster is different than my 01. For starters the guage placement is different. The seam in the plastcs is there, alright. View of my OEM instruments looks like it would be blocked more than in your pictures... I don't know if I could live with that or not. Besides the year of the truck, the height of the driver enters into it too. I think I'm going to make a cardboard mock up & just tape it in place to see what it blocks. Maybe even drive it that way & think on it.Another alturnative... because these digital guages are just 1" H X 2" W... I might consider mounting above the dash right in front on the driver. It might block my view of my hood! but little else. I anticipate needing a visor on it to block reflections on the glass. Really off the wall... I wonder if these could be inset into the edge of the dash bezel, above the instrument cluster. I haven't measured yet... It would take some fine work... but just maybe... I gotta go out to the truck with a cardboard mock up.These are so small, 2 of them could stack in the little dash pocket... I'd have to find somewhere else for my pens. LOL(Can you tell) I'm excited. This may just be the answer to where to put guages in my truck. Russsubscribed
  24. NO CDL but I've towed gooseneck & 5th wheel trailers... I agree point the interior mirror at the ceiling. After time running the CTD without a trailer, it's down right freaky to see that trailer in your inside mirror. Backing is fine once you learn to use the mirrors. Easier with your own truck, where the mirrors are set & nobody messes with them (or start over when you swing the camper mirrors out).
