  1. We were 9* at 11PM, heat wave this morning... up to 16. I don't like these cold cycles but know they happen periodically. We're usually more temperate, below freezing at night but above during the day. The bed of the truck is 3/4 full of snow...
  2. Let me know where to ship it!!
  3. Wifee cleaned off the Cirrus so I could get to the dentist... there's 3" in the driveway since she plowed with the ATV. (She's decided it's HER TOY, I tried to argue but it did no good!)So she's off & can not interfere, so I'll go brush the 18" off the CTD.
  4. People seem thrilled with a lot of stuff that I can not afford...
  5. I notice the CAI he has drops a scoop under the nose. That plus the filter forward seems to increase the likelihood of the filter getting snow...
  6. I read this thread on CF apparently an 04 (AF forward) with a CAI plugged with snow & restricted air flow. Is this an issue with BHAF? Is there an issue with water or snow through the fender or fender hood crack? Interested in members exteriences. http://www.cumminsforum.com/forum/3rd-gen-powertrain/355786-plugged-air-filter-snow.html
  7. Binding slip spline?
  8. There was a thread on this earlier. What cooks the oil is heat... EGT... Best way to get the EGT down is to down shift, get RPMs up for last mile or 2. I plan my stops, cut the speed, downshift a mile or 2 ahead. I don't have a ETG guage yet but those that tested convinced me to change how I drive on trips. On local driving, running empty, like others I have several miles of local roads, so I drive slow which the neighbors appreciate... minimal cool down needed.
  9. I agree... something is causing these failures. Gotta check everything before reassembling or it'll just do it again.
  10. Many years ago, I had a 84 Ford Ranger (Natural 2.2) 2WD, 4sp. {Madza built Perkins} The transmission cracked near the tail. The trans shop insisted the bell housing had loosened from when the used dealer had done the clutch just prior to my purchase. The transmission shop tried welding it. It came apart a few weeks later & I gave up on the truck. (I've since heard some creative souls changed the output shafts & used the Madza 5 Speeds. Frankly the truck needed a turbo... Point is, some looseness might allow a misalignment... or something was coming apart, causing the vibration. Hope this helps.Russ
  11. I once worked in a yacht-yard outside New Bedford, Mass. I was on the yard crew moving boats around. One of our tools was a well used surplus 40s Power wagon with a monster PTO winch on the front. We would chain the rear to a dead man & run out the cable to move cradled vessels on planks & rollers. I have a fondness for the beast. Would be awesome with a CTD.
  12. I had a set of Cooper Discoverer tires on a 84 Ford Ranger (2.2 Natural Diesel 4 speed)... the transmission case cracked so I pulled the almost new tires (drained the full fuel tank) & junked the truck. Put the tires on the wife's Caravan (heavier tires but the same size) & they wore like iron. Totally trouble free with a woman driver. Coopers are not well known but I consider them solid tires.
  13. I run dead center on the temp guage +/- a needle width... after I warm up. That's the thermostat setting (on my truck). Agree, if your temp does not eventually run on the thermostat temperature, the thermostat is No Good. The winter front makes it easier & quicker for the engine to warm up. But it's still up to the thermostat to regulate the temperature.
  14. Not sure where to put this. I found this over on CF. Pods mount on dash right above OEM cluster, in front of the operator. These pods seem to be well recieved. Fit 06 & up. A few have reportedly been cut for earlier Dodges but I've not seen any pictures in this whole thread http://www.cumminsforum.com/forum/6-7l-non-powertrain/110095-custom-gauge-cluster-58.html He's getting 200 for them. I am not affilated with the sale in any way except to wish they fit my truck!
  15. My 01.5 has the rear discs. I don't know if the disc brake wheels will fit your hubs.Russ
  16. That would explain your erroneous reading. Cheap fix if that's all it takes!
  17. Besides my quart bottles of TCW3 in the doors, screw drivers, multi tools, mini-vise grips. Wheel chocks & blocks that I use with the trailer, go in the back without fail. (At one camp, the organizers requested I use my truck to tow another fellows gooseneck cargo trailer out after the FORD dealer had retrieved the HIS truck with a blown transmission. I had to drop my trailer to go move his... needed blocks & chocks to drop mine. CTD Power!!) If towing, traffic triangles & 3 reflective traffic cones go in the back. (I've had to mark off clearance for the rear ramp for my trailer with cones.) A long piece of stiff steel welding rod (coat hanger) stashed under my back seat to rescue dummies. Double ended snaps for tie downs & setting up tents. Shackles. A tow rope. Trailer plugs & adaptors. Spare Jesus clips. Gooseneck ball (Hidden Hitch), Reese hitch 2" ball. Bed sized cargo net (golf course salvage). 4 way. Work gloves, waterproof gloves, roll of papere towels, spare baseball cap (driving into the sun).Spare fuel filter. I drilled holes in the front seat bases for bungies to keep things from sliding forward. I have 2 plastic bins on passenger's side. One with 8 rachet tie downs, each rolled to keep untangled. The other has assorted bungies. A hank of 1/8" braid rope cord. LED flashlight. Emergency matches. Small bottle of my choice of pain reliever.
  18. What's the sensor on my hood? Near center, I think passengers side (not positive, snow on truck right now). I have to work around it tightening the bolt on my winter front. I've found some posts that describe the radiator core mounting location but also found the hood location referanced. So it may vary. Expert's Answer DESCRIPTION Ambient air temperature is monitored by the com-pass mini-trip computer module through the ambient temperature sensor. The ambient temperature sensor is a variable resistor mounted to a bracket that is secured with a screw to the underside of the hood panel near the hood latch striker in the engine com-partment. For complete circuit diagrams, refer to Overhead Console in the Contents of Wiring Diagrams. The ambient temperature sensor cannot be adjusted or repaired and, if faulty or damaged, it must be replaced. I remember responding in a Patrol car to a boat launch... the neighbors heard a lot of noise & thought some kids were causing trouble. The road dead ended & a hard right was a steep paved boat launch. Sticking out of the water was a couple of tail lights, the convertable top of a fancy sports car was about awash. Two suddenly sober college kids sitting on the trunk... A wrecker was able to winch it out... The Lt was in the unit behind me so I don't know how they made out otherwiise.
  20. I keep reading they are on the radiator core support but on my 01 I have some kind of sensor behind the grill on the inside of the hood.
  21. I have not got my BHAF project installed yet... but I'm going to close the fender cut out in winter, open in summer. I'm probably kidding myself but just going to use another piece like my cold front & a couple of screws.
  22. As posted previously, my truck still has the sticker on the glove box door... great source of information. Also check for any original paperwork.
  23. Magnets... install some sheet steel. Why didn't I think of that? Thanks for the tip. I'm thinking that steel could be added by removing the dash bezel... Hmmm.I've found the TomTom suction cup grabs glass & formica very well, as well as the supplied adhesive disc (only 1) but not other surfaces I've tried. I had some painted metal & plastic with a fine texture... NADA. My old GPS mounts were 1.5" aluminum strips wedged in the vents, bent in a Z to form a shelf. I put velcro on the back of the GPS & the upright of the mount. It could be dislodged from the air vent by clumsy passengers but the velcro never separated. Russ
