emisions testing
THere has been no evidence of a Cat on a 2nd gen Dodge Cummins as yet. It is not listed in the FSM (Where, there are noted exceptions for Commiefornia trucks). Most untrained inspectors think that the resonator is a Cat. Ed

I went through it & finally got a Fass. Ed

FRRP-100 Relay?
Originally, they did come with a relay harness. It along with quality went away. I would suggest installing one, as the ECM directly runs the lift pump. The FRRRP draws quite a bit more amperage. Ed

HX35 swap
Download the rebuild manual from Holset & decide honestly if you can do it. Ed

It's a Chrysler product. Must be the ballast resistor... LOL Ed

High Idle Kits
ECT is just for prolonged 6 cylinder high idle. Nothing works, until the IAT is hooked up, as the entire switch gets the common from the IAT. Ed

Thermostat temp?
190* is the factory temp. 200* (From a 3rd gen) has been experimented with. NAPA or Cummins, only, as they always fail open & provide a steadier temp. Ed

You haven't upgraded the exhaust pipe & it's getting a size complex.... Ed

vp44 gear difference 98.5 to 01
Not a bad price. Is it confirmed an 01-02? Private seller or salvage yard? Any warranty? Any documentation of miles? I would check it out & throw some bearings rings, a hone job & a gasket kit in for good measure if everythng measures out. Ed

vp44 gear difference 98.5 to 01
Well, it could be a wash that way. I am just the kind that would take the 98.5 engine & rebuild it & then swap everything over, while using the 01 engine as a temp, but that's just me. My wife tells me I am a hoarder. You may find a housing & cam from a blown engine at a salvage yard on www.car-part.com It is also a good site for cross referencing what parts fit, as they use the Hollander Interchange system to only give direct crossed parts. You may also check diesel shops for a used housing that is left over from a P pump swap. Ed

vp44 gear difference 98.5 to 01
Yes, you would have to change the gear housing. I would think you can get a performance cam, replace all of the parts & still have it quicker & cheaper than swapping the engine. Do you still have the donor truck? Ed
-
vp44 gear difference 98.5 to 01
I would say it's easier to swap the cam. Ed
-
vp44 gear difference 98.5 to 01
Did you read my article? You will need to get the gears pressed on & off, so you might as well swap cams, or it is a good time to upgrade a cam if you like. Ed
