  1. If it is a 98.5-00 engine in an 01-02 truck, you need the ECM, PCM, engine wiring harness & power center (Underhood fuse box). Ed
  2. Loosen the fuel filler cap & see if that helps. Ed
  3. You have to remember, AC sine waves are what radio broadcasts are. If you leave the +BAT terminal connected on the back of the alternator, you can use that legnth of wire as a transmitter antenna. Disconnect the entire alternator to remove it as an issue. Ed
  4. If I could read hexadecimal, I could tell you... Ed
  5. The company that claimed it was hard to get the programs flat out lied. In 2 hours, I downloaded every single software revision for our generation of trucks for $35. When I worked auto salvage, we sold every ECM/PCM/module in every car the moment they came in. The companies flat out admitted that they just resell them & hope they work. Ed
  6. Of course, there are defects in any run of production. I am just trying to educate on how it all works & the specs thereof. Ed
  7. Not a problem, Luke...LOL Ed
  8. OK, the EEPROM (Electronic Erasable Programmable Read Only Memory--- From here on known as "Flash") is what is reprogrammed by a DRB3, Smarty, Hypertech,(Or any "Downloader). This unit is capable of storing 512KB or 256KB (Kilobytes [1000 bytes]). It needs special signals to put in "Program mode", erase, verify erase, program & verify the programming. That is a cycle. These flash chips are organized into a "16KB boot block, 2 8KB parameter blocks" (Most likely preprogrammed at the factory & are non accessable 1000 erase write cycles), and the remaining blocks are regular data blocks (30,000 erase write cycles). There is 64k of RAM available, in the 2 32Kx8 SRAM chips. There is a compressed program in the lower 16K (boot block) that gets decompressed into RAM at startup, only if certain conditions are met. The RAM (Random Access Memory) is what we believe to be the failure point in the ECMs. I cannot find the read write limit on them, but what is generally accepted is that as the beginning of the 64KB of RAM gets worn out from repetitive cycles at startup, the FLASH chip looks for a new address to put the startup block. Hence, the delayed WTS lamp. Now, if you do the math, you can only wipe out so much RAM, before it has no space to store the data it must move back & forth between the FLASH & the rest of the ECU. This is why on certain PC softwares, there is a minimum RAM requirement & with intensive video games, you need much more & a high performance video card with Gigs of RAM itself to function. Just as an example, the TRS-80 Model 12 offered 64KB of RAM. THAT WAS IN 1979 !!!!! That is what our trucks are running on. There's your lesson for the day. Ed
  9. The whole reason I love this page is that the information is as factual as is known. Just trying to help with that...... And the owner aint a bad guy, either. The 1,000 read write section, I think is the bootstrap section, which should only get programmed once., as it is the control section of how the chip operates. They can be sourced from suppliers with that part already programmed, or use a BDM cable to program it. Ed
  10. The EEPROM in our ECU is good for 30,000 erase/program cucles. Right from the data sheet. Ed
  11. Try pouring some diesel down the output line. Ed
  12. Jamie is the man at CPP. If your raptor is within the past 3 years, you probably have the cheap plastic quick connects & there have been numerous failures from then till now with their pumps. I think it was Fass that had a screen on the inlet. None of my raptors/replacement raptors has them. Ed
  13. He replaced the O rings on the tubes, so they had to come out. OP, when you did the install, did you tighten the injector hold downs, then loosen them, then insert the crossovers, torque crossovers, THEN torque injector hold downs? that is proper procedure & if not sone that way, the crossovers might not seat properly & cause the issue. Might be worth going over the procedure again to check. Only takes 1/2 hour or so. Ed
  14. The electronics are what control the timing advance & fueling, through EWM solenoids. If you want all mechanical, you need a P pump oe VE pump. It is just not possible. I am also getting skeptical about this "repair", as my spare PSG has a MOSFET that has 4 wires & the one in the picture has 3 wires. Also, the factory one is held to the heat sink by the plastic case to the aluminum case for heat sink purposes. What holds this one down? Ed

With a 90s model, you will be into the 60X (2,3,6), most likely the 606. Stock block can handle 500ish HP @ 5000+ RPMs. They run smooth as glass, too. There was some 85-87 (I think) 603 engines that were 3.5 liters & had an issue with bending rods (Hence, the term Rod Benders), but most have been retrofitted or have already been recycled. The 90s Mercs cannot be beat for the price, power, speed & ride. Ed
  16. With 200 watts on my CB in an old Grand LeMans, I had a trunk mount antenna. I would key up & the rear defog light would glow right along with my modulation. Ed
  17. Over in the Scandanavian countries, they are using rapeseed as the base for theor bio diesel & it is causing a world of hurt in the IPs. Check out Deiselmeche on FB about it. He's the Superpump guru for the mercs/BMWs & such. He also does about any IP there is. Been having huge issues with it. Rapeseed does have a higher tield per acre than corn in thrie climate. Ed
  18. 1 person reported back that his brushes were so worn that they were making noise & with the BAT wire & the control plug removed from the alternator there was no lockup issue. Replaced the alternator & all was fine. Remember, AC voltage can be transferred through inductance (Think radio broadcast). That is why I always suggest to fully disconnect at the back of the alternator. Ed
  19. "New" alternators from the big chains are made in China. Junk. Do the AC voltage test & you will see for yourself. This is why they don't even want a core. Ed
  20. It's a year warranty, not lifetime. Ed
  21. If you cut the harness, you will void my warranty. Look at the bulkhead connector for the main harness. To the sides of it, there is like a baffle. You can cut through easily & PUSH 1 connector through at a time. If you need more help, PM me for a phone number. Ed
  22. I agree. Diesel is nothing like gasoline. My old boss (Owner of a boat yard) bought an 85' Morgan Outisland sail boat that had been sitting for 7 years, we just polished the fuel (Running it through LARGE filters, till we got it down to 3 micron & clean & then ran it under power for 4 days on the old fuel to the yard.ou may want to put in a cold weather additive depending on your location. Ed Y
  23. I was doing marine diesel work when the ULSD changeover happened. I could tell immediately, what was in the boat for fuel. feel, smell & yes, taste... Ed
