  1. the vp44 is designed to only use 30% of the fuel pumped to it. the other 70% is returned to tank for cooling purposes. 40 gallons/hour is 40 gallons/hour, no matter what pressure it gets there. that is one reason i spent the extra on airdog. heat and lube is what kills/saves pumps and motors....
  2. I also have a 99 ram with cummins diesel. it is normal for the lights to dim repeatedly. as everyone has said, that is the grid heaters(remember that our motors do not use glow plugs). yes, they hit the battery hard for juice. another member(ISX) recently showed that the grids get over 500F. for cold starts i typically turn the key twice, and wait for the dumy light to go out(WAIT TO START light). that makes the grid heaters run twice and really heats up the air. if possible plug the "block heater" in. it only requires an extension cord and you want to try to do it a couple hours prior to cranking. the plug is behind the passenger head light(maybe next to the condenser and radiator). your pump may not be running up to snuff. check your fuel pressure soon. if it is below 10 psi, you could be doing damage to a VERY expensive component.
  3. is that motor a mercedes? i thought i remember someone saying that is what they were using in sprinters...i was hoping for CTD
  4. rotf lmao:lmao:your truck is having it's time of the month? you know....i thought there was something missing in my tool box. i wonder if mac tools makes a 12 gauge for mechanics? lol
  5. i like Flying J's diesel also...but i was informed this week that they heat their fuel year round. i don't think i need to say it,but....heat makes things expand. maybe that is why they're always 0.02 cheaper than the rest?
  6. are the MAP sensors different between those year models? i know various fueling box come with adapters. and even mopar1973man says that it does report correctly to his scangauge. i agree with mopar1973man. get a scan tool that gives you live info. if you have a laptop, getting a tool that is usb could be invaluable.please keep us updated on your swap
  7. does he have a LSD rear end? are these 2 not similar? http://forum.mopar1973man.com/showthread.php?t=1109
  8. i'm not sure...but you have to work through the obvious. i'm sure it is similiar to the seized brake caliper, you probably don't notice "shutter" when empty. i would tend to think suspension parts but don't forget driveshafts and u joints.
  9. in oklahoma, we got rid of that inspection before i started driving. my mother said that the shops were not making any money off inspections so most places didn't want to do them. since most of OK is rural, it made get inspected hard(in some instances, you could have to take your vehicle over 100m one way). as a hunter and outdoors man, i hate pollution. there is a difference between driving a car and dumping your waste into the water/outdoors. some people just don't see that difference
  10. those dodges look TOUGH! i would love the 47 with a b series in it! i can dream can't i?
  11. do you have an automatic trans? you should change your signature to reflect your trans.there is a known problem where the alternator is old(the diodes are worn) and it WILL affect how the trans shifts(well, lockup)...search for ats fix
  12. and you are 100% sure that isn't the grid heaters in the intake. mine go off and on over and over until the truck moves 15mph or until the truck is warm.
  13. that trick only works for trucks newer than ours!
  14. i thought the same thing...but i take my 2wd truck on our hunting lease with no problems...i have bottomed out the suspention a couple of time. when i get out to check the airdog...everything is fine....my is installed to pureflow's instructions. inside the framerail, and my filters do hand a little lower than the transmission.
  15. can it be any worse than watching an episode of Southpark?
  16. anxious to hear what happened
  17. would you post any part#s or a pic or two of what you did?
  18. chop them into pieces, like for that vp44 install vid
  19. you have to remember, those are inside the cylinder. unlike most gassers, that have'm in the intake manifold. but i don't see any carbon build up, which can be a problem with our motors when they idle for extended periods(ie operating when not fully warm).
  20. funny...i added some 2 cycle to tank
  21. i believe you can only give one truck the tune...but you have heard form others that you can still use it to turn on high idle and 3 cylinder idle.
  22. :agree::agree::agree: it just seems everything takes more time in the cold....and as a contractor, speed is all i know. besides it always seems the telco lines are always "hot"(got voltage) when its cold!
  23. i agree whole heartedly, but there is something to be said about "living to fight another day" if that sucker bombs(do like them allisons and smoke all your clutches) while your driving, your going to have a bad day. personally everyone i ever have known to have an automatic has had it worked or replaced before 150k with one expection. a 94 gmc 2500 with a 350 and 4l60e...it made it to 205k before it shite-ed out. read my sing and you know my opinion.
  24. i don't really care for cats(my dogs sometimes eat them) but that is an extremely funny vid!
  25. only if the leak is in the cylinder
