Dead pedal issues!!

Recommended Posts

Ok guys I've posted on Cummins forum but not much help. My vp went bad about 10 months ago I replaced it truck ran good.  2 moths later dead pedal started I bumped my fuel pressure up on airdog165 local shop had it way low. Truck ran good for 6 months. Dead pedal came back also had a low voltage to apps code changed apps with a timbo  and adjusted it per instructions. No more codexpensive but I still have the dead pedal. Spoke with local shop and changed ecm. Still have the dead pedal!!  For giggles I changed my fairly new filters and added 2 grounds along with changing terminals made it 2 and 1/2 months and dead pedal is back. Spoke with a few people including calling blue chips tech line and they think psg  is bad on pump.  My pump is under warranty so I pull it and warranty it out. Driving home tonight and the POS is still dead pedaling. I check alternator which is under a year old a/c voltage is  .028 at worst. Some one please help or I'm trading this thing in and getting a powerstroke! Thanks in advance

do you have any way to read live data?  Edge juice? Quadzilla? Scn gauge?

If so do you see the TPS reading drop off when it goes to dead pedal?

Who is the pump through?  when you sent it in did they give you any indication that they fixed something?

what kind of fuel pressure?

I bought the pump from a local shop who is bosch  certified. They rebuild in house. I drove tgere and they just handed me a pump and said bring back the other.  I have a quad. Tps stays where it should. I verified with the monitor and a snap-on scanner. Pressure is 18 cruising. 14-15 wot

In my experience, yes. Cruising down the road and the engine just falls off to idle.No matter what you do with the throttle the engine just idles. I think it gets mixed up with a  dead spot in the oe TPS where you loose throttle response in a certain range due to wear on the TPS. I am sure some body will correct me if I am wrong on that.

What fuel pressure are you running? Idle and WOT

Dave, he says above that his F/P was too low for awhile and then got turned up to 18 psi.and WOT is 14-15.

I wish he did not have low F/P for awhile on a new VP.

My eyes and my memory, no good!!

We can fix that with lots and lots of this.... .

I'm not an expert but is it possible this could be a fueling problem, i.e. bad tank vent, in tank screens clogged, or old in tank lift pump still in there?

Curious, does it do this when it fires up or does it start after driven/ run a bit?

Try leaving the fuel cap loose and see if it has a vacuum at the tank which is stopping fuel leaving the tank.

Be sure to check the pressure when you have the dead pedal too.
