Yes. It will prevent the overcurrent or locked rotor from wiping out the ECM driver for the lift pump circuit.

I've considered whether the lack of fuel pressure to the VP during engine cranking also lessens or removes the electrical load on the PSG during engine cranking.  If the solenoids arent placed under resistance then the electrical load is minimal.  No.....?

There is only two solenoids one for the fuel pin then the other for controlling fuel pressure to the timing piston. Either way the ECM is sending commands for fuel and timing while cranking.

The cranking fuel pressure is only to prevent the timing piston from being over commanded to excessive advancement.

Ok so yesterday after work went to start the truck and it only cranked never started. Tach was moving all gauges working no issues there. So unplugged the fuse for the AD to see if it would start like it did the day before and nothing. Put fuse back in got pressure back, gave it a little ether and nothing. Had to end up calling AAA and have it towed back to my diesel guy to help me out on figuring this out.

Not sure it would help you or not but I’ve had luck cracking injectors when mine has hot start troubles. Even though I don’t think there’s air in the system

Just thought I would add to this to say I just tested the lift pump over pressure situation. I have a fairly new stock lift pump btw.

Got truck good and hot then shut it down. Result long cranking, sputtering, no start. I unplugged the lift pump and it immediately flashed right up. I then tried this over several times having no start unless lift pump unplugged.

I have a fass comig and will be wiring up a delay relay when I install it along with a fuel pressure gauge.

I just bump my starter. Watch F/P gauge till it gets up to around 7-9 psi and then crank it. Works everytime

.I don't like the ECM doing the rapid on/off business to the relay. Work truck still needs the protection diode on the relay

I just need the relay Daniel. Vulcan supplied the good protection relay on my work truck, but source Automotive did not on the rv camping trip truck. So yes just need the relay and connect it into the harness.

So now you your getting license to drink all my beer at camp :thumb1: Plus some cash there boss:thumbup2:

Did you change anything on your truck after starting this thread?

Not a thing.

Without being there to diagnose in person, I would question whether or not the engine was getting fuel.  Meaning, was the AD even pumping before you realized it wasnt starting.....  Did you confirm the FP gauge was working before the engine didnt start?  Maybe the AD fuse wasnt getting a good connection from you messing with it before.

Then there's the off chance that you could be experiencing more than one issue, like a possible fuel leak which would cause the prime to be lost.

At this stage of understanding whats going on, you need to establish if the VP is getting fuel, then establish if the injectors are getting fuel.  If fuel is being delivered then it "should" start.
