So last week I installed a set of 7x10 injectors.  I am thoroughly impressed with them but they make me nervous with my stock HY35.  I'm traveling for work right now and happened on a good deal on an HX35 off another 01.  I scooped it up because of the price.  No shaft play and looks pretty good.  From what I've read this should be a direct swap for the HY.  Is there anything else I may need?  I'm planning on hauling my fifth wheel back home Friday and may try to install in the hotel parking deck.  I'm sure they will love that!  The HX should have lower EGT's than the HY correct?

Thanks!

I've got the tools and a lot of free time.  I started PB Blasting the bolts yesterday.  I'm more concerned about towing the camper home and risking high EGTs.

I am just a lowly well-traveled 32 years young!

sure would be nice if there was someone from the forum in the area

Should Be straight forward. Hardest bolts to remove will be the on bottom, especially the front in my experience.

You wont be the first to replace a turbo in a hotel lot, I had to replace mine and also remove, clean, and replace the intercooler when my new turbo went out last spring in Alabama! But the hotel people didn't care, just clean up your mess best ya can.

You must be young, I have done things like that years ago, now I would not chance that on the road.

We've all done crazy stuff at the wrong time and place.  That's how you learn where the line is...and how divorce works. ?

PB Blaster and maybe a well placed propane torch.  Rust is gonna be your main enemy.  I wish you the best of luck!

I'm not sure what they were popped to.  I ordered then straight off the DAP website.  Quadzilla is definitely the next thing on my list.  What's interesting is I was getting around 13mpg before the injectors.  Drove from just south of Charlotte NC to the shipyard in VA Sunday and got almost 18mpg.

Well I got the HX35 installed today.  Only had enough time for a short test drive after install but it appears that all is well.  I will know more tomorrow when I drag the camper home.

Man that back bottom manifold bolt is a pain.  My box end 15mm was too big to fit on the nut.  Luckily my cousin had one that worked.  They were definitely on there good.  All other bolts came out fairly easy considering the mileage on the truck.  What was interesting is there was no gasket on the oil return line on my HY35.  No leak either.  I reinstalled with a gasket.

Glad you are up and running.  Its  a little late, but its a good idea to drill or notch the divide on the turbine housing to allow the turbo to gate both volutes of turbo.  In stock form only the front 3 cylinders are gated on an hx35.

How much did you see your EGT drop by going to the bigger hx35?

It's a little slower to spool than the HY but not by much.  MUCH less smoke and I haven't been able to get my EGT's over 1100 standing on it.  Haven't hooked up to a serious load yet with it though.

I never knew that about the turbo.  What difference will I see?  I plan on pulling it off again soon to throw a rebuild kit in it and clean up the compressor housing that the previous owner painted.
