New tail lights came today

 I was looking around online and ran across an obvious goof. I found this pair of tail lights for $18.71 +tax for a total of $20.03. couldn't believe it so I snatched them up. I noticed today the price changes to $53.99 on the same site so I think someone screwed up. Lol I got lucky I guess.

 They are smoke lens though so I may have to get some LED bulbs to brighten them up.

You can see them ok for it being daylight but they are dim.  LEDs should help.

I have LEDs all the way around in my truck (except the 3rd brake light) and they do make a difference.  I did the switchback LEDs (copied M1973M) for the front turn signals and they are bright. :wow:  If you do the switchback LEDs just make sure they are legal where you live.  I looked up the state regs for vehicle lighting just to make sure. 820325154_Screenshot2020-04-11at9_54.07AM-Edited.png.96bd29774d8252f29f291632070a53c9.png

I wouldn't worry most modern vehicles today run halo lighting and in white LEDs. As long as the turn signal turns amber in the front then your fine. Like most modern car cancel the white halo and switch to amber turn signals. 

 

I've got switchback LED's in both trucks now still no issues with them either locally or on trips for the last year or so.

I have a set of the color changing in mine and just passed inspection with them. I drive in alot of states and all the new cars seem to have the color changing signals. I dont believe they would be doing that if they were not legal in all states since many vehicles dont reside in the same state for their lifetime.

I definitely understand where you are coming from. I was a bit worried myself after installing LED bulbs, new housings and the color changing bulbs in my turn signals. But it was no problem during the state inspection here in NC.

 So far here in Ohio we don't have inspections. I think I'll be ok with the switchback bulbs. I'll get those when I swap out my headlight housings and switch to led headlights. Looking at the smoke tail light a little more I think I'll be "ok" if I leave it with std bulbs but I would rather begin switching over everything to led anyway.

One of the best rear lighting upgrades I did was install recessed LED tail, turn, brake and reverse LED’s in the headache rack, It did drown out the existing tail lights in the rear and made them look like the 20 year old lights they are. I took them off and washed them in the kitchen sink ( they were a little dirty inside) and let them dry for a couple hours, I just installed new std. bulbs but replaced the back up with LED’s, no resistor needed anywhere, and for someone coming up the rear the visibility is 100% better. My driveway exits off a rural 60 mph highway so I like the extra assurance, and having 4 LED back up lights make it nice in the dark.
