Hey guys I have to put a vp44 in a friends truck this weekend and he was wondering about a pressure gauge or a light? I told him that a gauge works great but if you are not always looking at it it does you no good, so he dicided on a light. So my question is has anyone made one up themself or do you just buy one from someone? Thanks:thumbup2:

Get a gauge not a light, a gauge is accurate and shows you exactly what fuel pressure is, a fuel pressure light only comes on once fuel pressure has dropped too low. Most of the time way to low at like 3-5psi which is way to late to save a VP which likes a minimum of 10psi even at WOT-Jordan-

Ditto to the above posts! I would hate to think that I lost a $1000 pump because I wanted to save a few bucks for a light instead of a gauge! On top of that, just about everytime some one needs a problem diagnosed with the engine one of the first questions asked is" what are your fuel pressures at idle and WOT?" If you want him to continue to be your friend, PUSH him to a gauge!

Yes I do agree that a gauge is better, but in some cases a gauge is only good if your looking at it. I thought at least a light would be noticable even if you werent paying attention. I think the best is maybe both so you have the noticablity of a light and a gauge to see if you have a problem:thumbup2:

the idiot lights cost as much as a gauge. the pod to put it in gonna cost a little though. i dont constantly stare at mine but it is easy just glance at it usually while checking the mirrors. shoot i can ride down the road with my blinker on and miss that flashing lignt on the dash. probably have to srap the light on my face for me ot pay any attention to it. but if he does not want one give him a light. maybe you can find a sender that lights at 10 to 12 pounds.

Both is definetly an option but is it really that hard to look over at the gauge every so often? I mean you look at your speedometer plenty, probably your tach if u have a standard, fuel gauge etc, literally takes a second to glance at it. I dont find my egts, boost or fuel pressure a hassle or time consuming to look at plenty when im driving my truck. -Jordan-

Best is the juice or quad that do both :) They will turn red and glow when under a user defined point ;) eg 12 psi

i installed a light after my ip went bad the second time.put in a brand new cummins lift pump went bad in less than a month & took out my ip again the low press. light never even lit.i got one of the steering column gauge mounts for my fp gauge it's easy to monitor there.

I did both a gauge & warning light. This is what I used for a gauge http://cgi.ebay.com/NOSHOK-2-5-Dial-...item5631ec7122 No problem with the transaction - square deal with fast shipping. The gauge has a stainless case, it is liquid filled (extended service life and reliability where pulsation, vibration and shock are present), and accuracy is ±1.5% Full Scale, ASME Grade A. Installed the Weatherhead needle valve into the filter head, feeds into a tee; gauge pressure line to one port, Kohler engine oil pressure switch (NAPA SME 2509927S) to the remaining port to activate a low pressure warning light. Used a nylon oil pressure gauge tube kit from Advance Auto Parts, and a brass 1/8"male pipe to 1/4" female street elbo to hook up to the back of the gauge. I used the cap from a black Rustoleum spray bomb as a gauge holder. Mounted the gauge on top of the dash against the L/H windshield pillar, held in place with a dab of hot melt glue on the pillar & one on the dash. A small piece of sheet metal glued onto the spray bomb cap holds the warning light. It all works just fine. The gauge is not backlit, but the warning light will illuminate if pressure goes below 5 psi. Look good, last long time! Joe in St Louis
