3rd Generation Dodge

This is a discussion forum of the 2003 to 2009 3rd Generation Dodge Ram Trucks with 5.9L and 6.7L Common Rail Cummins Turbo Diesel power train and drive line system.

  1. Just got on this site, was on a different site, called Michael who was very helpful and he assisted me in getting a manual. I am going to post on this site so that people may follow my issue, possibly help or I may possibly help them. 2003 Dodge diesel 2wd with a six speed. 144k on odometer. I recently installed 50 hp brand new bosch injectors, air dog 150. No tuners, but I have a Cold Air Intake and straight pipe. Recently had problems where it would die intermittenly. Check lift pump and when on the gas would lose pressure. Replaced the lift pump with the air dog. Now at around 180 degrees the rail loses pressure, significantly. Until 180 the set pressure and the rail p…

Does anyone know why it seems like rail pressure is lower when the temp is colder? Does the the ECM cheat it back because of sensor readings? Or is there something else going on?

I need to drain power steering fluid and from what I can see, right where it goes into power steering cooler there is a low pressure clamp on the hose, would this drain the entire system with eng running?

Installed on my truck and mpg readings are way way way off. Any one else have this issue?? Was thinking about sending it back and getting a dif pod for guages any ideas?? - - - Updated - - - Called the place i ordedred the insight from and they said they have to get permission from edge to take it back. I explained it does not read right and they say that it has to be approved..WTF So I buy an Edge product that dont work and its my problem that its crap.

EFI Live turn it back to a single injector event. Then figure out a proper timing map being that most CR engine are pretty retarded in timing stock wise. (At least what I remember of AH64ID's Smarty post).

I think I am going to move the SG to the DD and get an Edge Insight in the Dodge. It does so much more than the SG, and has several features I would like to have anyways (post-turbo pyro, turbo timer, and various pressure/temp sensors, backup camera). I'll probably start with just the post-turbo pyro and oil pressure. By using the CTS for oil pressure I can move my pre-turbo pyro from the A-pillar to the dash mount and have room for the CTS under the A-pillar. Down the road I would eventually like to monitor oil temp, diff temp, and trans temp. The OBDII gauges will be better than the SG since Edge actually has PID's for Dodge, so I will be able to monitor rail pressure…

ok i just purchased an 08 2500 mega, manual, i'm going to redelete the truck. you can see they just threw the cat dpf stuff back in. so i want it gone. but i can't find what to get.. one site says 04.5-09, in the title then the description says 04.5-07... https://www.alligatorperformance.com...-dodge-cummins will this work? what do i need to do for the computer side? i'm also looking into the EGR delete seems every one goes with sinister. so i might as well jump on that wagon. again what computer mods need be done. i don't want or need more power. i'm not opposed to gauges and i read that H&S closed doors? is this correct? so i'm not able to see what d…

Just for heck of it, while driving past a certified scale, I turned in and got MightyWhitey weighed. Just me in the truck, no dogs, no trailer, minimal stuff inside, and 7/8 tank of fuel. Steer axle..............................4680lbs. Drive axle..............................3300lbs. Gross weight.........................7980lbs. If I put just 2 of my dogs, plus some more dog training stuff I regularly use, I'd surely be pushing 8200lbs. Then is I put the 3rd dog in the truck............ When we drive to NoDak, we normally have 3 guys and 2-3 dogs in my truck and a heavy tool kit, jack, etc.........Wouldn't surprise me that the truck alone is pushing 90…

  12. I've got a client up in McCall nice looking 2005 Dodge Ram but steering is pretty poor. I've done the first step of pulling the steering box and sending it off to @Blue-Top Steering and had him rebuild it completely. Then I asked the owner to pick out a brace for the steering box. This truck came to me with some serious steering slop. The steering box was leaking both the input and output shaft seals. Here we go, look for that Blue Top box peaking out... Take notice there is a gap to the pitman arm and the body. Look closer you see I had to heat it up and wedge it off the old box. Some nit wit ran the nut in with a impact and crushed the arm to th…

Purchased my truck with 104,000 mi. Did not appear that the trans or rear axle fluids had ever been changed. Decided to run Royal purple syncromax in the trans. When changing the fluid i noticed the magnet inside the pto cover had some metal flakes but not overwhelming. Long story short, i ran syncromax for 16000 (6qrts) the truck was always hard to shift, hard to down shift Could only catch a gear or two) and sometime nearly impossible to get in gear if it was at operating temp and I put it in neutral at a long stop light. Switched fluid out today and the magnet was buried in metal flakes/shavings. Replaced the RP syncromax with 6 qrts of pennzoil syncromesh. Truck i…

Oil Change Required Tools and Materials 3 Gallons of Engine Oil 15w-40 Oil Filter Waste Container 3/8 Ratchet Oil Filter Wrench Magnet Tool (optional) Rags or Paper towels Viscosity of Oil Typically we all use the standard 15w-40 diesel engine oil for viscosity. The only time you need to change down to 5w-40 is in the dead of winter when temps are near zero for operation. I will warn this is going to be synthetic diesel oil and not very cheap. As for the 15w-40 oil I've been using it year-round here in Idaho with temps as low as 0*F to -20*F. API Specification Be aware there is an oil type specification. All diesel…

Hello to all, just wanted to post my personal experience with these ball joints. When I got them I couldn’t find much info on them so I figured I would give them a try to adjust a minor camber issue I was having. It hasn't been a positive experience for me but that doesn't mean that it wouldn’t be functional on other makes and models. To keep things straight forward and short I am just going to list Pros and Cons. Pros: Allows up to 1 degree of camber and caster adjustment Cons: In order to adjust the wheel has to be removed and ball joints have to be loosened and then re assembled to check if adjustments are correct. (very time consuming alignment proce…

Well it looks like I'm going to pull my injectors and send them to Superior Turbo and Injector in Detroit. They are going to test the injectors, clean, calibrate the coils, replace the brass cap and o-ring for $165. If it turns out that any fall outside of the specs or can't be brought back into spec they will replace them with their in house (Bosch certified) rebuilt injectors for $265 each. If I want Bosch factory rebuilt injectors they are $332 each.I was told that it is a good idea to replace the fuel tubes at the same time @ a cost of $35 each. What do you guys think about replacing the tubes? At 35 dollars it's not a big expense, but if they don't need to be replace…

  18. . I went to get in the truck a little bit ago. Opened the door, the dome lights came on for a sec, then blinked, then went off.. Then I noticed the cargo light wouldn't work, either. Push the button, the cargo indicator on the cluster illuminates, but no cargo light... FSM shows these are triggered by the cluster?? OMFG, I'm so blind. There's a fuse #35,. CCNI

For about 2-3 months now, my fuel pressure gauge has been real erratic. The needle not staying steady, bouncey and some times cutting out all together. I pulled the connections at the pump under the truck and cleaned the contacts and terminals. That seemed to help for a while. Then it started acting up a couple months ago. I bought a new Walbro pump off Ebay and a new wiring harness from GDP. Richard from GDP doesn't sell his Walbro system any longer, but he still had some leftover harnesses in stock. I've had this stuff for about 6 months now just in case. I keep meaning to take the harness and pump to a friend of mine and have him make it a bit more "weather tight" in …

So my TPS reads 101% on my Quadzilla Adrenaline tuner, and 100% on my Edge w/Attitude all the time. If I unplug the Data-Link connection it reads 0%. My truck always runs as drives as it should. And it does this with 2 different apps sensors. My APPS is under the drivers-side battery.Anyone have any idea what's causing this??
