3rd Generation Dodge

This is a discussion forum of the 2003 to 2009 3rd Generation Dodge Ram Trucks with 5.9L and 6.7L Common Rail Cummins Turbo Diesel power train and drive line system.

  1. 2005 3500 I got the turn signals hooked up and working with no brake lights, the brake lights are run on another wire instead of like the older models were they work together, I need to know if I can hook the brake wire to the turn signal wire without harming anything with power running back on the turn signal wire, if you have any advice PLEASE let me know..

  3. Ok, I hate it when a question pops in my mind and I just can't find the answer. And, I'm crossed eyed looking the site over to satisfy this question.I know it as the 'gel point' where diesel 'starts' a gel effect when temps drop due to the winter climate ?When 2 stroke oil has been added to standard #2 diesel, does this gel point temp drop ... or not ?Any lab test on this ?

  4. A co-worker of mine picked up an 08 diesel and is having issues with the catalytic converter. If he drives around in town for two hours or so, his over head will display a warning that his cat is 80% plugged. Once out on the hiway and getting some flow through the engine then it will blow the 'soot' out of the cat. His question to me is can he straight pipe this year or will he need to get some software in order to fool the computer. The truck is basically stock, 4X4, manual trans. He is worried about the cat plugging up and then having to purchase a new one. I am not familiar with the CR so any help would be great, thanks.

About a year ago to the day, I bought a set of Cooper ST maxx tires for the 03. Up until last week I have been quite pleased with them all around.I was checking tire pressures, and noticed the left front was running about 15psi low. upon further inspection I found that the outer bead was cracked almost completely around.. The right front was cracked about half way, and both rears were showing signs of dry rot.I went back to the dealer, and after looking at them he informed me that the ST Maxx series is a commercial tire, and does not have a replacement warranty. after punching numbers, and giving me pro rate quotes, I think he began to notice the frown growing on my face.…

I decided yesterday to do some over looked maintenance. I changed both diffs and the transfer case. Let me tell you it was worth it, 114k and apparently the previous owner never changed them. Now I just need to do the power steering since it always gets over looked:smart:

I see little about this product on any forum, I use it religiously in the summer and run amsoil diesel treat with cold flow improver in winter, I am another one of those pesky AO dealers but don't push it. here is a link to it. Schaeffers has some of the best product on the market IMHO. They have been around for a long time. I have used many of there product over the years at places I have worked and can attest to the high quality of all of their products.

Hello guys and gals, as the title states I have gone through 2 pressure solinoids in the last 2 mos. I had my transmission fully built to handle more power about 4 mos ago, as soon as I got it back I threw in a new smarty touch, it ran great for about 3 mos and then I lost 1st and 2nd gear. Transmission was still under warranty so they checked it and replaced the pressure solinoid, problem solved ...temporarily at least... about a month later I am now having the same issue, no 1st or second gear. I can take it back to them and I'm sure they will replace it again at no cost but I am trying to figure out what could be the root of this repetative issue before going back to …

I been thinking this for a while until I came in from 250 mile trip. It now has a slight miss, nothing eng shaking but a pop to the exhaust. It is stock for the most part. Have not done anything to it but service it. It sets in the garage for the most part, only has 60k on it. My first thought is injectors, which it does roll black smoke when you get into it. The only other think I can come up with is valve adjustment. But if its making a slight pop it would suggest a tight valve which would mean valve sinking into the seat. Any thoughts? Thanks

Anybody know where I can get a couple cowl plugs... Not sure what they are called. You have to pull them to take the push rods out. The rubber grommet things up under the cowl. 2004 2500 4*4

Soon I'll be looking for new brake linings for my truck and wondered if anyone here have tried ceramic brake pads and shoes on their truck. Seeing we can pull one heck of a lot of weight, I'd like to know your opinion. I have installed these on my wife truck, but it's a 1/2 ton an she uses it more like a car with one heck of a big trunk for her shopping trips. The seem to brake better than stock, and last one heck of a lot longer. But what will they do on the Ram HD's with a large load ?

Everything was great, with the exception of a mention of a small amount of soot in the sample. Used Mopar oil filter, changed to Baldwin. Just wonder what they mean about the soot in the sample.UpdateI know there is always soot present in the oil on a diesel, hince the coal black color of the oil. So......? Heres the report, what say you? 3462_001.pdf

Hello, I will be swaping out my steering linkage soon and will be going with the mopar "upgrade" model that came on the newer trucks. It requires that I replace the pitman arm due to positioning and steering damper due to mounting hardware. My question is, is there some way to adapt my existing damper (3rd gen bilstein5100) so that it mounts on new linkage ? I feel like at some point I came across a post of a way to do that but I can't find anything on it now that I need it, thank you!

Hey all. I am new to this forum. I am currently depoyed and tried to do some searches to find a how to on Valve Springs install but the connection here is crap and I couldn't find squat. I'm buying parts for a 2ng Gen Swap on my 08 Ram 3500 6.7l Cummins. I plan on an II BOP and 75hp nozzles along with the S467 and 2nd Gen mani and head studs. When I do the head studs and nozzles I want to install dual valve springs and push tubes. Has anyone seen a write up on the valve springs for a 3rd gen 6.7l cummins? Not sure if I have to cycle through the cylinders. Pretty new to a valve spring install. Thanks in advance for any assistance. Rob

Just wanted to let you guys know that the Diehard Platinum batteries are on sale at SEARS for $175 each right now. When they try to switch it from defrost to the floor or to the head vents, I cant get any air to come out. I am try to find out what might be the problem. I know that on my 2nd gen that the vaccum pump help controls the ac/heater door. Any ideas?
