Just took my truck to the voltex battery today and had new batteries installed, I figured its about time the old ones were 6 years old and weak. They put it 2 of the 65 group size blems (2nds) for $35.00 each, left there with $75.00 out the door with a 1 year warranty . I work at advance auto parts, part time and they are $90.00 each with my discount. If anyone has a battery store that sell blems that will save you a lot of money.

Just got back from towing for the first time with Mike ccv installed. I was hoping no catch can on the ccv was my oil issue on the front of the engine. Just pulled in the driveway and front pumpkin and steering is wet with oil again. Truck hasn't say long enough to see how much I lost in 250 miles but now I am ready to attack this oil leak which I am assuming its the front main. Any advice on confirming that or thoughts on anything else it could potentiality be? Brian

Today I had to do a repair to my fuel return line coming off of the VP at the pressure regulating banjo. The steel tube cracked where it is pressed into the banjo. I was 40 miles away from home, luckily I had an old washing machine hose, and some SS clamps in the truck. Made the repair and ordered the new part over night from Cummins. I pulled in, and smelled fuel, the customer standing out side my truck confirmed this I am sure it happened from replacing the VP 44 2 times in a year, it did bend as I turned out the banjo bolt that last time, as I recall. ---------- Post added 03-10-2010 at 11:56 AM ---------- Previous post was 03-09-2010 at 05:27 PM ---------- …

Great site, glad I found it. My name is Bob Donnelly, I have a Freightliner FL50 with a Cummins ISB and, Fuller Eaton 6 speed. At 117K I replaced my VP44 because the truck was not running the same. Chip at Blue chip diesel, determined the computer on the VP44 was bad, so I replaced it , and the power was back. At only 120K I am having the same issues. Chip said to take it in for DTC scan. I did, it has no codes, the owner of the shop, said to test the wastegate, and to replace the leaking exhaust manifold gaskets. The wastegate leaked, so it has been replaced, and the manifold has new gaskets and bolts. I installed a fuel pressure gauge in dash at the time of the VP44 rep…

I put a mystery switch in the shifter, thank you me78569. The momentary switch is used to trip a 'switching' relay that turns on a light at the A-post next to the trans temp gauge and all so closes a 'grounding' relay that grounds the torque converter lockup solenoid. Terminal 85 of the switching relay is grounded through terminal 1 of the brake light switch which is also a ground for the ABS controller. When I engage the lock up everything is ok , then manually lock out over drive to down shift to 3ed. The check engine light comes on. There is no up shift to over drive until the lockup solenoid is ungrounded. The code that is set is p0122 throttle position sensor/swi…

First off let’s start off with saying I’m glad I found your site!!! Great Job and keep up the great work!!! I have been in the Cummins thing for many years, I use to be the admin on the old SETDR site if some of you remember. That site is what kicked off the Diesel Garage and Comp Diesel sites. When SETDR died I kinda laid back and focused on other things in life. I have an 01 Dodge Cummins ( Big Red )with DD4’s, 5” exhaust, hx35 w/boost elbow, Edge Drag Comp, all the gauges, Holley blue pusher pump ( which I started the installation craze) and a full blown Sun Coast Comp Tranny w/triple lock Tq Convertor, So she’s pretty stout and build to my likeing. Last dyn…

Hey Guys, Pepsi here with another article. This one I feel is pertinent for diagnosing transmission issues. I've compiled this from a few of my articles and some more threads. I also got help from my one friend Mitch who was nice enough to copy a ATSG manual for me. ALWAYS THE FIRST STEP…. CHECK YOUR DAM FLUID! Ha, yes you guessed it most times low/high fluid levels will cause tons of issues, its best to check your fluid first. Checking your fluid can save you a ton of time and agony especially if you’re following gremlins around. So to check your fluid you must …

Hi guys need some help here. I had the check engine light come on me driving home last night. I had the P0222 code. So I parked the truck and shut it off. Then I plugged into it and reset that code. Upon starting it immediately jumped to 1500rpms without touching the pedal and would not leave that range. I limped it home as I was really close. I suspected the apps. So I replaced it with an oem one along with the batteries bcuz they were going anyways. Just to rule those out of the equation. Also my alternator failed two days before so it's new and putting out 14.1. Anyways, after installing a new appsand batts, I attempted to perform the calibration procedure for it. I th…

Hey guys, My truck has suddenly felt like it has lost a crazy amount of power. It is not as noticeable until the torque converter locks in overdrive and the truck feels like a turd. Also, when the truck is warm and idling in park it has an intermittent miss/popping sound, which goes away when put into gear. This sound has occurred for about 2 years now, so I haven't thought much of it. Would you guys think this would be the injectors finally wearing out or the VP getting ready to die? I have no codes. Shift points have also gotten noticeably longer, as it will ride 3rd gear forever now. I have pressure tested my Airdog 150 and everything comes out as spec since…

I've made huge mistake. Put a 01 24 v replacing 99 24 v. I knew there was no Crank sensor but didn't know about tone ring. Is there any type of kit that can correct this. #6 cylinder started knocking and it's a 53 block 346000 miles. Didn't want to rebuild. Came across a wrecked 01 low mileage. I didn't do my home work and now have a big problem. The truck started several times but will not start now and no tach. I still have the wrecked truck ecm and pcm but is's a automatic and my truck is a manual. Is there any type of kit to correct this, change cranks, switch ecm & pcm and flash add the tone ring.

I have a "wait to start light" that doesn't come on all the time. I have to cycle the ignition switch maybe 5-6 times before it finally comes on, then truck will start. No light, no start. I have a 99. Just bought it from a friend, he had this issue before the vp44 took a dump. I replaced pump, truck runs awesome once the light comes on. Did a search of the internet and now can't find the articles I found before.:banghead:I love this truck!

Good day, everyone, I am looking for direction on an issue with my 02 24 v. I lent it (mistake) guy put 80 litres of gas in it. It was only run a couple hundred yards to park and pay and then no start. I had it flat decked home and with no idea of gas did a few checks and figured a vp44 failure. I did not repair but decided to wait till this summer when camping season started back up. Fast forward (a few months), I bought reman vp44 and proceeded to remove old pump. In the process I discovered two things, the gas and the fact that the pump had been changed at some point. I believe by a local dealer that is notorious for changing warranty items without customer knowle…

Performed the WT mod this weekend and a few things I have noticed already. 1. The WTS light pops instantly, use to miss about 2 out of 10 key turns! 2. Shifts better 3. for some reason the truck runs quieter- lotta turbo whine now The bolt I had to use was a 6X1.0 M, Copper terminal ends and soldered after crimp

I’ve searched and read a whole bunch of threads about swapping an HO(028) pump in place of an SO(027) pump the mixed answeres really leave a guy confused. So so I don’t care about high horsepower capabilities or anything like that I’m just interested in daily drivability with at most a small tune and some 50-75hp injectors but currently bone stock. My SO pump is dead, I have a known working HO pump. What can I expect by swapping the HO in place of the SO pump. Many say it works just fine and many others say it can not be done..

So, went camping with son this weekend and his 98.5 had some problems we're trying to figure out. Went for a short drive and smelled smoke, turned off truck and looked under hood, alternator was smoking! Alternator was hot as hell! Fidled around a bit with the connector coming out of it and he thought they were possibly touching each other? One definitely was showing bare wire at connector. Any how, after messing with those wires he turned truck back on and alternator seemed operate at least cool to touch , problem is now no WTS lamp and grid heater not working. We did get it started in morning but below freezing and it wasn't happy! Didn't think about…

I've been away for a long while but I've been busy. It's that time again..... Time for another VP44 and lift pump. I've been looking around and CPP seems to be where you get the most bang for your buck. This is what I was considering. Would anybody advise different??? I don't want to go with thoroughbred diesel again and I can't afford a blue chip pump. My main concern is the fass lift pump since their VPs have all new electronics. Are they legit? Anybody have any experiences (good or bad) with CPP??? Thanks in advance. http://www.cumminsperformanceparts.com/vp44fasscombo.html
