Mopar1973Man.Com High Idle / MPG Fooler Overhead Console Installation Ed Grafton sent me a Mopar1973Man High Idle switch for me to install into my overhead console, and do a write-up on it This is for guys that have no where else to put it due to too many gauges, or in the rare case like Jigabop who has too many options Ed Grafton extended the length of the wiring to allow for the wires to be run from the overhead console, under the headliner, down the A pillar, and into the engine bay. Whole install took about 2 hours. Tools And Supplies Needed - Drill - 2 1/8" whole saw - Smaller drill bit to drill the center ( 1/4" - 3/8" something small to e…

Date: September 3, 2001 Models: 1998 1/2-2002 BR/BE Ram Trucks (2nd Gen Cummins, 1998 .5, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002) NOTE: THIS BULLETIN APPLIES TO ALL RAM TRUCKS BUILT AFTER DECEMBER 17,1997 AND EQUIPPED WITH THE 24-VALVE 5.9L CUMMINS DIESEL ENGINE. Discussion: This bulletin involves selectively erasing and reprogramming the Engine Control Module (ECM) with new software (Cal 55Tl8, 57Tl1, 56Tl3, 59T7b, and 59T8b.) Symptom/Condition: Extended idle operation, especially in cold weather, can lead to stuck valves and bent push-tubes due to insufficient cylinder heat. It's getting cold again, so I went to look up mopar1973man's articles on how to fool the truck into high idle, but they all seem to be missing. All I can find is a paste of information from here: http://www.dieselbombers.com/5-9l-24v-performance/80019-manual-3-cyl-high-idle.html I understand there's a kit being sold now, but if that's the reason it's vanished that's pretty disappointing. The cummins crowd seems to love DIY when you can, and to have a good reference removed is a real loss.

Just got back to the states again and the truck has been setting for the last 4 months. When I start it in the morning you never know what its gonna do, it will either rev up and down or just go straight to almost 1000 rpm. It went to 1000 this morning and I got about 2 minutes down the road and it started idleing normal. My alternator is charging at idle and I just ordered one of Goulds rebuilt kits so I hope this fixes both problems but I dont know.

Thanks to a great set of instructions (by Mike) I just finished my high idle fooler modification. All of the switch functions appear to be working as advertised. I just have to have the software enabled... I would guess I have about 5-6 hours in building the wiring harness and install... Thanks again Mike!

Just got my new high idle switch installed and everything seems to work great. Question is if I start it in 6cyl mode and get in the truck to leave should I hit the brake to stop high idle before turning the switch to off?

I wired up my high idle fooler according to moparman's diagram. With the IAT harness hooked back onto the sensor and just the coolant temp fooler on, the engine will still hit the 3 cylinder mode and the temp outside is around 34 degrees F. If I understand the system right this shouldn't be happening at temps this warm. Can somebody give me some ideas?

So I got the kit a couple days ago and just finished the install this morning. I flashed the truck with a Smarty so I know it has high idle enabled. With the truck off, I turned the knob to 3 cly high idle and start the truck. I got no high idle and I got a P0113 engine code. I didn’t turn the knob at all once I put the key in the ignition. Only thing I did out of the norm is I had to extend the wires in the harness. Unfortunately the harness isn’t long enough to reach the overhead console which is disappointing. Since an extra 4 ft would have been enough. Any ideas where I need to look? When I expanded the harness, I went color to …

The high idle kits are going to handed back to me for production. All future production of the Mopar1973Man.Com High Idle Kits will be produced right here in Idaho. As soon as I get all the parts and pieces from Ed Grafton (Yankneck696) I'll start producing them. So I know some of you are hoping for more to be produced and seeing DAP running out of the flat mount version. So hang in there more to come very very soon.
