Anyone know if there is an OBD PID for idle mode? Say for instance my truck had a weird lopey idle and I suspected that the APPS is rapidly jumping from idle mode to off-idle (because the truck also jumps out of fast-idle mode when it's cold). I know I can check it with a meter, but I was hoping I could monitor it from obd. Thanks.

Ok This is what it does: At idle if you bring it up just a little above idle say around 800-950 rpm's it will flucuate up and down almost like its missing. Thats where its most noticeable. You can also notice it around 1800 rpm. I've got good fuel pressure, I've pulled injectors and had tested, New Vp twice just to rule it out, cleaned MAP sensor and IAT sensor, replaced the APPS with a williams from timbo, cleaned all my grounds just now. I am running a SMarty on level 3. I have no codes except the 1693 and the other one is a fuel calibration error code and when the rpm's at idle do this weird idle like it misses, every once and a great while it will throw the …

I noticed that my rpm at idle has gone from 850 to just a little over 900. This is a constant thing even when warm.Does this indicate a problem? What's the cause and is there a fix? No codes. Thanks for any help.

Hey guys, just have a question regarding engine idleing and warm up. So I know according to the owners manuel your not supposed to idle your engine for a long period, and of course it doesn't specify what a long period of time is but aren't you supposed to warm it up in the winter? If this is the case iv'e noticed since owning this diesel that takes quite a while so wouldn't this hurt the engine since your not supposed to leave them idle for long periods of time? confussed. just another newbie question

  5. I dont mean to high jack but am I understanding it right when you say dont let it idle long? You say go ahead and start lightly driving to keep build up from forming? And is this build up in the form of fuel in crank case?

  7. Truck in question is a stock 99 with a 5 speed. Only mods are a fass lift pump and 1/2 inch lines. Like the title says the truck will idle fine and when you give it a bit of throttle it will jusm right to 1400. Nothing in between and nothing over. My ECM was starting to fail,,,found a good used one along with an injection pump from a cracked 53 block. Swapped it out today and still the same. Sort of seems like the APPs but my DRB3 reads the apps and it says it goes from 0 to 100 percent just fine. Any ideas... Thanks Chris

  8. Let me first start by saying this website is an incredible resource and I'm very grateful for all the great content yall provide. During the extended time at home during COVID, I did a few projects on the truck and now I'm having some issues. 1) Installed a FASS 165 with G&R sump 2) Replaced my old nasty battery cables with a set from custombatterycables.com After both the projects, I put everything back together and it starts and runs fine, but doesn't produce any boost and has a fairly sluggish response. There is a decent amount of smoke if I get much above 2000 rpms. I still have steady constant fuel pressure at around 18 psi wit…

  9. Im new to the diesel world Please help Me , when i start my truck cold it always starts right up and sounds and idles good even in cold weather , after about 3 min or so give or take idle goes to surging and misssing sounding like crap, When i put it under load miss seems to go away and idle sounds good although I do still notice a small amount of surging and you can see it on the the rpm gauge and the volt meter

Ok so here it goes. Bought my first cummins back in January, 2001 24v totally stock with an edge comp box. It had a bad oil leak so i tried to wash off the crud to help locate the leak ( yeah i know bad idea ) got side tracked and didn't mess with the truck for almost a week. When i did get back to it, it was a no start so i put a code reader on it an got a laundry list of codes. Long story short i came to the conclusion that it was the ecm, so i replaced it. Installed it, truck runs but if you touch to go pedal it dies instantly. Sent it to the shop. Replacd injection pump, lift pump, cam sensor and fixed the tappet cover leak. Still same problem. Sent ecm back thinking…

After driving 250miles south she was running fine. I filled up and shortly after had what felt like a misfire. the truck was driving fine but it just wasnt idling like it used to. I put another 750 miles in the same week and have filled up 2 or three times now and it still isnt idling right. i changed the fuel filter and now a day later its not starting right. it will turn over, choke a couple times and die. then i have to crank for about 6-10 second with nothing and then she will fire and run. I my lift pump is just over a year old and my pressure sensor recently died do to lack of isolation. i have plenty of power all around still and my fuel mileage is still the same. …

  12. Here's situation... coolant been in 4 yrs now, so time to change. Very little miles, maybe 100 miles in last 2 years due to wife cant get in truck because of medical problems. And I cant leave her attended to drive it around to get properly warmed up. And license tabs are also expired now. (Hell of a mess I'm in) So im thinking about a coolant system test (head gasket leak test) I'll have to idle about 1000 rpm with exhaust brake on. Never since 2005 when we got our 2001 excessively idled. Or should I forget pressure test, and just change coolant? Or idling to get up temps enough for test is OK? I normally change coolant every 4 yrs. Wh…

Alright, working on the whole "heater core" project and I had to remove some other misc. parts I deemed for removal to get to the relevant parts. One of them being the turbo downpipe to the intercooler. Upon inspection, I found very dark oil residue. It has a sheen to it. Its not heavy, but it covers the inside so much that its black.I'm not sure if this means my turbo is shot, or if the K&N filter that used to be in it was the culprit. I can only think of cleaning the downpipe and driving it for a while and then take a look at it again to see if there is a presence of oil or not to figure out whether or not my turbo needs rebuilt. If I do need to rebuild it, where can…

  14. Hey everyone I have been doing a ton of research lately trying to figure out what upgrade I want to do on my truck. I have looked over many different threads regarding injectors however these threads are almost 8 years old now. I have also been following the Quadzilla V2 threads very closely and recently purchased the iQuadBT. Like most guys I have gotten the thirst for more horsepower. I am on a limited budget and I am still looking for a reliable daily driver. So my question to you is, if you guys could go back and start with a truck that only had 63,000 miles on it what would you upgrade next? Here is my list of upgrades(for now): 1. 5 inch Turbo…

  15. hey all...I had a stuck injector last weekend so I replaced them with some even bigger ones (220hp vs 175) bc they were the only ones I could find on the saturday of memorial day weekend. Is it obvious with how the truck idles if there's an issue with the connector tubes? I dont know if there is, but the truck idles meaner with the new injectors anyways so a comparison to before isnt fair. The truck appears to be running fine, but it is way smokier than before. I know that could be the injectors just being bigger and smokier. We couldnt find any connector tubes over the holiday weekend so we reused the old ones that have been tightened on multiple times, and clearly over…

I installed a new fuel system i.e. Erics full Big Line kit but when attempting to bleed the air it took all my strength with a 19 mm wrench (big wrench) and I could not get any of them to loosen. I had to bleed the main feed to the injection pump and it fired right up. Now if/ when I need to loosen an injection line in the future it seems the 19mm nut will strip before loosening. It had to be the dealer that installed the in tank pump and new VP44 that over tightened them. Any tricks out there before I strip a nut or ruin a high pressure line? Thanks in advance.

  18. I have a 1999 Dodge Ram 2500 diesel. About two months ago it had a cranking but no start issue, it happened about 5 times over 3 weeks. I got a code for crankshaft sensor so I replaced it and no more starting problems. But I also had codes PO 121, PO 236, & PO382, so I sprayed some contact cleaner into the TPS since that worked the last time when I had the problem a few years ago when I got a TPS code. However, after replacing the Crank sensor I was getting operation except for surging before shifting to 4th gear. Annoying, but not enough to search the problem yet.:banghead:About three weeks ago it started from stop like it was in third gear, when I got to 25-30 mph t…

Hi all... I discovered two cracks in my stock manifold. I have searched here and could not find too much... Can someone recommend a replacement for me? I would like to put something in that I do not have to worry about again and perhaps something with a port already installed for my EGT probe. I do not plan to add any performance upgrades... except maybe 75-90hp injectors down the road when these get tired. Thanks in advance..........

On my 01 Dodge I had an original lift pump , which I replaced with a Fass pump, this means there is no in-tank fuel pump, correct? The reason Im asking is some people are sayingIi have one, but it cant be with having a lift pump. Thanks guys!!
