I've been lurking here since I bought my truck in February and love this place. I have leavened quite a bit so far and know there is plenty else to learn. I have to things to say/ask so bear with me. To go along with the title, I was headed home for lunch on Friday. Heard a little noise but didn't really think anything of it. Then I noticed my air not blowing could, looked at the gauges and knew the belt was gone. When I pulled over to check it and call Good Sams for a tow, I looked under the hood and saw the pulley for the fan being held on by 2 of the 6 screws and those 2 were loose. Good thing nothing else was damaged. I am wondering how many of you …

"T" fitting in fuel line to pressure gauge is leaking. What's best to stop leak? Epoxy glue, thread locker, tephlon tape? This type of fitting in link. Not many threads to it and thin aluminum. http://www.dieselpowerproducts.com/p-7221-gdp-pushlok-fuel-pressure-sender-tee-38-12.aspx?gclid=EAIaIQobChMI3_SRouC21QIVD3R-Ch18VQxUEAQYCCABEgKsS_D_BwE Thanks

What needs to be done to a truck with automatic transmission to take advantage of an exhaust brake? Not looking for a high dollar solution. But rather minimum suggested mods.

Okay local guy just did Ppump conversion and is selling edge juice W/ attitude(has original box all instructions everything is there supposedly) and airdog 150. I can for sure get both for 800, maybe 750. should i?I just got my 02 3500 6spd HO with jacobs exhaust brake. i've added BHAF and will be installing iispro ev guages(FP, pyro, Boost) tomorrow. this is my first diesel. I'm not completely new to them(was hay farm mechanic and now union equipment operator) but am completely new to modding them. From my research over the last month and a half of having the truck an airdog/raptor/fass lift pump was going to be a definate mod along with chip was aiming towards edge, so …

2002 24V w/Auto Trans. All Stock. The past 2 weeks have been riddled with an intermittent Check Engine Light, Erratic shifting and a Voltage gauge going from just over 14V down to nothing, triggering a Check Gauges warning light, then within seconds the gauge climbs to 12-13V and the Check Gauges light goes out. The intermittently flashing CEL usually coincides with erratic shifting and hunting of the lockup converter or what feels like clutch/band slippage in auto tranny. Started with checking the batteries (Good), checked the Field wires from PCM to Alernator and the PCM was not sending signal (Dark Blue wire). Continuity test of the dark blue and the green wir…

This is the 1st time I have used the Donaldson oil filter (ELF 7349). I am using it with Rotella 15w/40 synthetic. I plan to run it 10,000 miles before changing. Is that too long? I use my truck for normal driving but sometimes tow a 35ft 5th wheel, mostly flat country on the Ms. gulf coast. Tx in advance.

Hey guys, recently picked up a smarty so in the process of tuning and changing tire size, I checked my DTCs and got a couple I hadn't seen before so looking for a sanity check on these. First one is I'm curious if this is a typical code to expect since I'm using a lock up switch? Seems like it, but some assurance would be nice. Second is Does this relate to the lockup switch as well? Or something else? My alternator seems to be doing it's job. Appears to come up with at least 12-ish volts prior to start and gets the needle up over 14 when driving so appears to be charging. What else should I be looking for? FWI…

I've got an 01 2500, 4x4, quad cab. I just had the inj, pump replaced at 175k miles. Stock rebuilt as far as I know. the truck has an K&N air cleaner and 4 inch exhaust. I pull a 31 foot travel trailer and usually gross out anywhere from 18 to 19 thousand pounds. Other than that looong split between 3rd and 4th (it's a 5 speed), I really enjoy the truck. I hear a lot of info about upgrades and the power and fuel mileage increases they give you. I.m getting ready to head cross country ( ore to N.C) and wondering,"will they really help?) Right now it gets an average of 18mpg by itself and 11 to 14 with the trailer(9 to 10 in a strong head wind) Thanks. This is my first…

Hey guys I am doing the south bend dual dish 3250-5K-ORG with the 1-3/8” input shaft upgrade as well as the 5th gear retaining nut upgrade. I am all the way to the clutch for and the throw out bearing step. I read the directions and it said to replace the clutch fork with the one supplied in the kit. However it is poor quality compared to the OEM one. Will I have issues if I do not use the south bend one? I’m looking for an education on this because to me these parts look very similar.

A BHAF Muffler - Uhh?? I like the Cummins engine, but I try to do anything I can to make the engine quieter. The BHAF air filter flows lots of air, but it also allows a lot of engine air intake noise to be heard in the cab – more noise than the factory air box and the factory air filter. This inspired the idea to experiment with a BHAF muffler on a big honkin’ air filter – in this case, a NAPA 2790. A BHAF muffler is not for everybody. If you like air intake sounds, turbo sounds, and amplified exhaust brake sounds inside your cab, then this project may not be for you. For my first muffler I used a length of ribbed plastic drain pipe inserted in…

Hey all, I have been fighting a random bucking problem in my truck for about a year now. It will buck in any gear and at any throttle, even at just idle. It acts like the motor just shuts down and then insantly starts back up. I have done an APPS reset several times and it always seems to fix the problem for a week or two, and then it comes back just like before. Some days it won't even do it, and then sometimes it will be almost impossible to drive for a few minutes. No codes, and I have 13 psi FP all the time and the VP is only like 2 years old. From what I have read, this is not typical APPS failure behavior, but the reset always seems to help??? Any ideas...I …

I recently removed my stock turbo for a SXE and have a friend that is looking for a HX35, so he asked me if my old turbo was an HX35 and I have no clue. Anybody know how or where I can locate that info? Or anybody know what should have been on the truck stock?

Ok guys, I’ve got a low hum at 60 mph. I did some digging and the rear end u joint has side to side play in the yoke of the rear end. I’m more than convinced this is my problem. The joint itself is not bad by any stretch of the imagination. I’ve tried to shim it to hold it tight, but that was a temporary fix and did not last but a few minutes. I went to town and brought home the Spicer and SKF replacements but both new u joints also wiggle side to side. What do I do now?

Ok first my apologies if these two questions are in the wrong area......first question does anyone know if the dodge srt 10 hoods will fit on the 98.5 3500 trucks?....second has anyone heard of using one of the "farm and garden" type sprayers for an after market lift pump ? the specs I got on one were as follows 2.4 gpm and a pressure rating 45 psi ....unfortunately i don't believe the pressure was on lines of 1/2 i think they were only around a 1/4 inch any insight would b great thanks all ...and sorry for not posting for a while the army has had me busy ....good news is the old truck got some work done while i was gone ..pics to follow soon

It's using a quart about every 40 miles right now. The whole underside of the truck is oiled and when I'm stopped I can see dripping around the inspection cover. I'm thinking pump seal. Is there something more common that I'm overlooking? The other kicker is that I can't fix it til I get home, and that won't be for like 12 days. I'm also going to be towing my 34' 13,000 pound 5th wheel home... Another question: at the rate it's burning through fluid, can I just dump cheaper DexIII/Merc in there? I'm going to be putting in a new converter when I get back, and doing a full fluid change.
