With the help from others on a different web site, I'm almost convinced that I need a new injector pump. Have a good lift pump with 22 psi pressure. Recently (today) cracked the fuel lines going to injectors 1, 3, & 4 and got a little bit of fuel. The front line had quite a bit of bubbles. Also have a 1688 code stating that the injector pump controller manfunctioned. Only this evening did I replace the fuel filter. Do I need to bleed it? Does it take long for the fuel to flow properly after replacing the filter if I don't. And finally, what's your take on a used injector pump (money's tight right now and elk season's only a month away)? Thanks

Now that it is warming up my truck seems to stall when it is warm. First thing in the morning it is fine but after a 10 to 15 min drive it will stall when put into gear. It also has a bit of a lope after starting when warm. No codes no change in fuel additives. Replaced vp44 2 years ago with no problems after. Any ideas?AkFred

Driving down the road and the Tach drops to zero, truck bucks like no fuel then maybe does it again then runs fine and always starts on first hit. Fp idle 22, wot 18, oil pressure cold 95+ warm 180* 75* . Worries me that possibly leave me stranded somewhere. Any Ideas? 1998.5 Dodge / Cummins, 4x4, 5 speed, 202k miles, stock from factory except for Donaldson Filters and Fass DDRP lift pump and new inner cooler hoses, Batteries and Alt. two years old.

  4. My edge mph stays 20 to 70 mph above my actual mph so when i am traveling at 65 it thinks i am going 150 or so. i have to leave my edge alert at 200 to keep it from alarming nonstop. when i am traveling between 60 and 70 mph it shuts down like i am governing it out. once it gets below 60 it drives perfect. i tried unplugging the edge and it couldnt even get to highway speeds. had to plug it back in just to get home. will get codes read tomorrow as the only one the dash show in 1693 which we all know is a companion code. any ideas?

Can’t seem to find any answers so I’ll ask you guys. I have a 98 Ram 2500 24v Cummins automatic tranny. Have problems with it going into drive and stalling no problems with reverse. But when I engage my torque converter lock up switch while switching into drive I have no problems. So could that be a torque converter problem or a problem with the switch.

  6. So I have a 99 24 valve Cummins with 7x14 injectors, bigger-ish turbo, delivery tubes, and lift pump and no tuner on it. When I shift into any gear when the truck is warm it feels like the truck either has to much load on it or tries to overcompensate and it just stalls out. The Tranny is stock. Was told it has billet converter but I’m not positive. It only does this after the truck has been running at operating temp. First start up in morning it shifts fine no issues. Any ideas???

  7. Hi everybody, my first question on Mopar1973Man. I have a stock 2001 Dodge 24v . In Jan.2012 had a lift pump failure & cooked VP44. Replaced with rebuilt VP44,and a Air Dog 150. About a month ago started to have a problem with hot starts, would start and stall. I only had the idiot light for the fuel pressure warning, never came on. Problem continued to get worse. Bought a real fuel pressure gauge and discovered I had 13lbs. at idle and would drop below 10 lbs. any thing above idle, replaced filters, both were only a month old, no change. So I put the 17lb spring into the Air Dog that came with the pump. Now I get 15lb at idle , and the pressure drops to 13lb anyt…

  8. Good morning,Ok so hopefully you will be able to solve or help me solve my problem before I sell this truck! Quick background - I bought this truck about 4 months ago with 160k miles on it, it now has 170k. About a month ago I was driving down the street and it suddenly died. Pulled codes and turned out it was the injection pump, VP44 no surprise. After getting the money together, I finally had it replaced with one from Thoroughbred Diesel and also installed a FASS Titanium system while was at it. Got it back this past Monday and it was running fine. Took it on a quick 400 mile trip across FL with no issues. Then the next day I took it to work, 40 miles, and started…

I have a 1976 F250 that i have swapped a 2001 24v cummins into. I have built several different standalone harnesses for other engines (7.3 powerstroke, 6.0 powerstroke) but this is my first VP44 24v. I have also swapped many 12v cummins into Fords. Im looking for ideas to solve a problem im having. I have a complete 2001 dodge donor truck. Im using the PCM from the dodge to control the 47re. Everything is in the truck and wired but the engine will crank only and will not allow the vp44 to fire. I can do the "hot wire" test on the vp44 and it will start and idle. Also i can unplug the dodge PCM, (cummins ecm and vp44 wiring connected) and the engine will start and run, an…

  15. Title says it my truck was properly stored in a heated garage and hasn't started in about a year and a half. referring to the 99 ram in my signature Concerns are traditional v8's you would change and then prime the oil system on fresh rebuild or long storage obviously an oil change is in order do I need to prime the oil system? I have a brand new turbo with 3k miles on it that is the highest point of the pressured oiling system do I have anything to worry about Fuel system, filters will be changed and system primed anything special with injectors or the vp44? I think that about covers it, the cab is going back on today so first start won't be for about a week yet bu…

  17. After changing my fuel filters, if it doesn’t kick off within 30 seconds, I usually grab a rag, pour some lawn mower gas on it, give rag a good squeeze until gas stops dripping out, open up air box, lay rag on air filter, (starter has rested by now), and turn the key. After it fires off, remove rag real quick. Engine does rev up a little, for few seconds but not bad. Today yacking with neighbor who is changing his filters on his back hoe says big mistake. What’s your opinion? Thanks

  18. So over the past few days i have been dealing with an issue with my truck. Sometimes it starts when i put the key in and turn it sometimes it doesn't... this morning fine, this afternoon fine tonight at the fuel station nothing. the only why to get it to start is jumper across the terminal at the starter with the key on.... any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

  19. I started my ball joint replacement today. It took a while to find the 1-11/16 socket. All the sears around me were out of them and the parts stores wanted 40$+. I am down to removing the Hubs. I tried the socket and power steering trick to no avail. Sledge hammer did not work either. Hubs have had a daily dose of PB blaster since Wednesday. Going to try a portapower tomorrow. I think I can get in to bite on the outer C. any other suggestions? Any homemade hub pullers? Do the Hub pullers push on the axle shaft? I have searched both forum and could not find much. Thanks Eric

Omg the starter is super easy to remove rebuild and install!!! i removed the filter assembly for easy access to the top bolt but after i loosened it from underneath.as typical the battery side was burnt away and replacement of them was simple. i took the end off the motor to inspect the brushes and commutator and the look new but used, plenty of life on them!!
