OK I've put a Timbo APPS on and a noise isolator. That took care of the check engine code, however, it is still turning over a while before it wants to fire. Sometimes I have to crank it 2 or 3 times for about 3-4 seconds each time before she fires. I don't have anymore codes going off. I'm thinking that it is losing its prime of fuel. Could the airdog 150 be causing this? Before the sensor went bad it was starting fine, suggestions??

I have a '99 24-valve Cummins that recently has been having starting issues. It was taking a long time cranking to start but I got my batteries tested and one was replaced under warranty. I also cleaned the terminals at that time and it was back to starting right up usually on the second or third crank. Then about 2 or 3 weeks ago I jumped in and turned the key to get nothing from the starter at all. I popped the hood and kinda felt the main wires and tapped on the starter. Then my neighbor came and turned the key while I looked under the hood and boom, started right up. Then it was fine until two days ago I drove to the gas station and on the way there my check eng…

For some reason my truck has trouble starting. I let it sit for 3 hours or so and it has trouble. I thought the lift pump might have been the problem so I put an airdog 100 on it. Runs great when it's running but still having the same issues. I don't think it's the injection pump because it is never short on power. Every now and then it will throw a puff of white smoke right when I start it but that is only when it's cold outside. Any ideas or suggestions? I've run out possible suspects and could really use some new ideas.

  4. Have been having more and more issues starting the engine once it warms up. Truck starts right away (barely turns over and its running) when cold but once it gets warm I have to crank it several times and even once had to use starting fluid to get it going. Was wondering if I somehow got some diesel with gasoline in it and the gas was vapor locking but its all pure pump fuel. The VP is about a year old and new injectors in the engine. Never had any issue with it during the fall/winter/spring but it sure is making things difficult now.Any ideas or suggestions? Thx, FT

  5. Hey fellas,I'm new in town here but I love this forum so far!!! I'm having issues with my 01 5 speed starting after it has ran for a while. The vp is only about 5 months old and the raptor 100 and the power puck went on when the vp did. It always starts perfect cold and it runs great all the time. I hasn't not started yet but it will turn over several times before it starts after it's warm. I had some water in the fuel issues a few days ago and I thought this may have caused it. I drained the separator and it straightened up for a couple of days and now it's back to the same old trick. I plan on checking the water separator again but the weather has been nasty here f…

Hello all, I just back on here. It's been a while. Looked in my inbox and had a non active message. Sorry Mike! Been busy as all hell. Especially finally getting a break over here on the East coast during Hurricane Joaquin. Have been in flight for storm rescue. US Coast Guard SARS. Ok here is goes, The truck has been acting up some. Truck will start and run fine then out of the blue will not want to start. But after a 15-20 min wait it will start. The tach will not move. I replaced the Crankshaft postition sensor a year or so ago. Funny thing is it comes and it goes. It will not do it for months and will give me no problems. Thanks, John

  7. 1998.5 24V It starts fine and quick, runs strong then the fuel pressure will fluctuate and it stalls. It will not restart. I found the fuel overflow valve is getting stuck in the full open. Replaced the fuel overflow valve but it keeps happening. If I push the ball on the overflow valve it will start again.

hey all, got an 02 dodge ram 2500 that the only way i can get to fire up is to break #1 and 3 injector lines loose. The truck will then crank, run about 10-15 sec and die.. Lil history, truck died while driving it , the pick up pump was replaced(not by me) and brought to me with the problem it has now.. I checked voltage at the pump and have 12 volts, checked it as the truck dies and no voltage loss.. Checked the fuel pressure at the injector pump. Fuel pressure is 12 psi and also does not drop as the truck starts to die.. Found code p0216, found your vp44 trouble shooting articlefollowed it to the wire jump and by it the injector pump was bad.. replace pump, truck still …

  9. Help please! I’ve tried it all have no clue any more! 99 24 valve, starts fine, runs, rpm gauge not working, won’t go pass 1000-1500 rpm, guessing on that because no rpm. things I’ve done no stock lift pump has air dog new apps new crankcase sensor new cam sensor new fuel filters new(refurbish) ECM what happened Was driving and just wouldn’t go pass 1000 rpm, no tach, replace crankcase sensor, didn’t fix it, unplugged it, plugged it back in and it fixed it, worked for couple days, then same thing happened, went and got another sensor, replaced it, didn’t work, check the wires to the sensor to the ECM all good, and voltage…

  10. What do you folks think about statement below for our trucks? True or false or full of it? (from http://midwestecmrepair.com/new-standard.html ) How dead is your ECM? There's a few different levels of non-functionality Key on; stop engine / check engine / engine warning lights come on & go back off (normal) stop engine / check engine / engine warning lights come on, go off & come back on (active fault) stop engine / check engine / engine warning lights come on & stay on (ECM locked up) stop engine / check engine / engine warning lights don't come on at all (ECM not powering up) xxxxxxxx…

  11. A while back I posted some concerns about how long an OEM muffler would last on the OEM exhaust system. I was mainly concerned if back pressure could be an issue as the muffler aged. I never really did get a definitive answer, probably because most people had moved up to 4" and 5" exhaust systems from the turbo back with either an aftermarket muffler, or no muffler at all. So, I decided to do a little research on my own. I found a general statement that indicates Cummins does not want to see any exhaust back pressure above 3 psi. I connected a gauge to the 1/8" port on the exhaust elbow and strapped the gauge onto my windshield wipers and then went on a …

What size is the TORX bit to pull that cover? I replaced my VP44 last year and have yet to put the stealth cover back on. I would like to, but I lost the TORX bit that came with the plate. I need to go out and procure one, I understand that the pumps come with the TORX heads that have the "security" piece in the center.

Is there any problems with a steel fuel transfer tank vs a alum one? Is rust a issue? It is a 200 difference cheaper for steel and a bit more weight. Thanks

The other day I smelled a strong smell of diesel fuel and I pulled the truck over. When I looked underneath the truck there were over a dozen driplets dripping off the driver's side frame rail. The frame rail was completely wet. Diesel was also dripping off the transfer case skid plate. I recently installed a Fuel Boss fuel system on my truck. My first thought was maybe one of the new rubber hoses chafed on something, even though I was extremely careful on installation. I determined the leak was between the tank and the frame rail. After several drips of diesel fuel on my face, trying to peek in the gap between the frame and the tank. Since I was on a road trip an…

Ok so I was looking under my truck because a friend of mine told me to check steering shaft because when I am making a turn the steering wheel kinda takes an extra turn like if it was loose or even when I change lanes, so I was looking under and saw this leak could it be coming out of the steering box or can it be coming out of the pwr steering pump because I have seen a leak from there but very small. Any clues ?Also if I do need to change the steering box any tips on how to do it?

Guys, just put on a steering brace tonight, great mod for me. I spent about an hour taking my time and torquing everything to spec, as well as greasing other fittings while I was under there. Took it for a ride and steering is much tighter with less road wander and better feel. I did swap my steering gear for a reman NAPA back in September, but it already lost that lovin' feelin' - if you know what I mean. If anyone is interested its a one piece " Big D " brace, and I can give the link to anyone who Pm's me. Here's a pic, one piece 1/4" plate.

Hey guys, Most of you know that I recently did A LOT of work on my power steering system, including attempting to rebuild the gear box, which failed forcing me to replace it with a reman. Anyway my trucks steering has never been what I would call very bad, but it's always had the usual 10-2 dead spot. The new box and shaft and even Rock Solid Ram Steering Fix bushing did nothing to help that, though the bushing did get rid of the clunking. I am also guilty of sanding the bushing a little too much to prevent binding in cold weather and so I still have a little movement in the shaft. Anyway I got tired of the dead spot and read up on the "over center adjustment". I ti…
